greensider
i never let rain change my hunt other than using a ground blind also usually when the rain stops the deer move well i like being out there when it stops rather than going out after it stops

wolc123
That is when it is tough to beat a ground blind. I have (3) of them now and they make me really look forward to hunting the rainy days. I can always find the right one for any wind direction. The biggest advantages of hunting the rain is less competition from other hunters. Deer activity does not slow down at all unless the rain is very heavy. Rattling has been particularly effective for me in a steady rain. Bucks don't expect hunters to be out in those conditions so they are more easily "fooled" then. Also, the background noise of the wind-driven rain makes it very tough for them to tell that it is not the real thing. I cant think of any time when deer activity is higher than immediately after a very heavy rain. A ground blind enables you to be in position to take advantage of that action. Better yet if you have a tree-stand nearby that you can quickly get to when the pouring stops. Even the mid-day action can be crazy at these times. The only hang-up I had with rainy afternoon archery hunts is the hardship it added to blood-trailing, especially after the sun set. Hopefully, no more of that now, since I picked up some CSI-type "blood glow". Rain is supposed to multiply the effectiveness of that stuff, which makes the blood glow in the moon and starlight. There is no problem tracking with a gun in the rain if you are willing to sacrifice a little more meat and hit them in the shoulder blade. As far as trapping in the rain, maybe if fur prices were higher it would be worth it but it don't sound good for this season. I would spend your time in the deer blind instead. Lol I don't really care about selling the furs yet.. I'd love to tan them and hang em up around in the trophy room and stuff like that at first and than once I really get trapping down I would probably start selling. I've been hunting and fishing all my life.. Now I really wanna get into trapping. I'm really teaching myself and reading stuff online how to do it because my father never got into trapping.. I bought peat moss.. Do you think that would work for k9's?

Kludes
Well I've been living and learning for 23 years of trapping and I'm 30 yrs young .. Peat moss is good but I'd get some underalls for before the freezes set in around late Nov December .. because when peat moss get hit with rain it will settle under your pan and cause the pan to get stuck up 75% of the time ... I've started using underalls past 2 years and I like them very much and you could also do like some of the pros and use pre cut wax paper as pan covers but I've liked the underalls ... ##1 thing you have to stress every set is make sure your trap is bedded solid and it doesn't move ... so put your hands on the outside of each jaws and start pushing the dirt in towards each jaw tight but make sure the dirt isn't over the jaws to freeze it open if cold persists Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Edited October 24, 2015 by Kludes
Kludes
And make sure your pan is the lowest spot of your set on every k9 set Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
