woodchuck
I take it you have ordered from them before. What size did you get, how old are the trees now and are they producing anything? I want to plant some but can't find any that are potted in my area. Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk
growalot
No, I got them from local Walmarts and they were all 6 ft and in 1 gallon pots and one had a hull on it when I planted it and developed two very large nuts in the fall...29 dollars...I also have been planting Chinese chestnuts around my place for years..though those died back and were eaten back several times...those are all in tubes and fencing now and growing great. in the pic you can see some of the tubes and fencing of the trees...I also planted apples and peaches in these plots, grapes along the fencing...this year I am planting some Concolors as a view blocker and Christmas trees for our families. they will attract deer from their smell and as wind blockers...though will be fenced for protection..a favorite tree to eat and rub. PS..chestnut hills trees 2 and 1 yr. old plantings so far Edited February 7, 2016 by growalot

It only makes their job easier and gives a better quality product in the end. Hopefully they are allowed to release to the public with in the next few years.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
growalot
We have a neighbor that has two in his front yard...they produce like mad every year, I know they are at least 20 yrs old.....but I'm not sure if they are native...in Avon we had two natives and man did they produce a ton of chestnuts every year...I missed those trees. Which is why I planted the Chinese ones here years ago... I am planting for my age...as I get older there will be less I want or can do...so I'm planning on self sufficient plots. Ones with good soil and tilth for good legumes and grasses under maturing hard and soft mast trees and bushes...... The plot in the picture is on the edge of the red oaks that are producing...that area alone has 12 producing oak out of the 200 on the property.

Berniez
Before you start planting chestnut trees from Walmart that are only “partial” American Chestnuts.....why not try to plant a “mother tree” on your property so when the government gives its ok we can get American Chestnut trees back into the wild and in huge numbers. These trees willbe 99.999% American Chestnuts. These trees will supply a huge increase in available food supply for deer turkey and bear as well as non-game species.
