Anyone Else Still Have Lead Sinkers Laying Around, And Can They Still Be Used?

Now, I only ask, because while rummaging through fishing equipment, I've found full containers of lead split shots, and sinkers below the 0.5 oz. weight. I'm well aware that the sale of sinkers in these sizes, was banned in 2004. I have been using the non-lead split shots, and, quite frankly, I hate them. Just wondering if anyone knows the rules pertaining to using these sinkers. I couldn't find anything on the DEC site, that was specific on use, just on selling.

All I could find was the prohibited sale as well..... no mention of use that I could find.

Agreed. The non lead ones are total garbage.

When conditions call for them I still use lead split shots

I use old nuts, 5/16 and 3/8 " mostly. They work very well and can be picked up on garage sales for a dime a dozen. I don't get excited if I loose them on snags anymore.

If you notice someone keeping track of what type of sinkers your using tell them to get a life !
