Seneca Lake Trout Derby

In it's 52'nd year! Memorial Day weekend every year since 1964.

I don't fish much any more, but I live a half mile down the road from one of the premier gathering places that specializes in people telling 'fish stories'. Vonnie's Boathouse, across the road from Roy's Marina.

 

I stopped in for lunch today and bumped into a few out-of-town pro's doing some pre-derby recon. Once we got past the talk of "runnin' shwanger-doodles at 90 and trailin' glitter on the train" we had a nice lunch and lots of laughs. In the fall it's leaf-peepers and winers. I like the fisherman a lot more.  

 

Does anyone here haul-in for this bit of americana?

Nope....I've spent lots of time fishing Seneca, but never fished the Derby...

 

I've launched at Roy's a number of times, but it was for perch rather than trout..

 

I've done most of my trout fishing out of Severne.  Closer to home and a more convenient launch & parking than Roy's..

so we'll be taking our annual trip to Ithaca in July. Is the fishing on Seneca Lake decent then ? Daughter and I want  to catch some fish and I want a roast beef from Two Goats brewing
