growalot
How are those gardens coming along...this hot sunny weather is a killer...love it though...I have been able to plant 54 tomato plants, 24 swt. peppers 7 hot. The new strawberry plants look awesome. None of the seed is up but did plant zucchini /cuke plants added some more spinach plants to what is already up basil, cilantro, sage plants...Planted 2 Goji berry bushes in a food plot and a apple sucker. I have the hills done to pop in more summer and winter squash ...just too hot to plant the brassica plants...I may plant some now (Brussel sprouts) and a few broccoli then pot up the others for a later planting...heat ...heat will cause them to bolt and not produce good firm heads. Melons need to find a spot ....
turkeyfeathers
Rabbits are brutal here. Hoping for better results than last year. Lil bastids ate $100 of decorative plants in 2 nights. 3rd they ate the sugar snap peas. 24 plants overnight. They chewed holes thru the plastic snow fence to get into garden. 6 tomato plants of mixed variety , 4 types of peppers , peas , bunch of lettuce. Nothing big but fun to appreciate. maytom
Been working on a raised bed next to my shed for a tomato garden. Just finished the frame yesterday, and dug out the sod and put down 20 bags of top soil. Think it will need more after it settles.
growalot
they really do not like that bird netting...24.00 for 100x7ft I cut it to fit what I need...they get tangled in it so avoid it....Then again I have clover every where and they have preferences...also garlic and onions planted around a gardens edge help they don't like the smell...do that around your fruit trees to help with bugs and gnawing . ATbuckhunter
Tomatoes are starting to grow really well, peaches already have almost 18" of growth on them, strawberry's are just starting to ripen up, and the figs are finally starting to grow again. Maybe 10-12 plants. Tops are a good 24"-28" now. What's the key? Pick in late summer / fall when tops turn brown and dry out ?
mlammerhirt
Tf cut the tops when they start to get curly...will help the garlic bulb grow bigger....exactly like you said pick late when when the tops get brown. Rockspek
wife planted garlic last year. Maybe 10-12 plants. Tops are a good 24"-28" now. What's the key? Pick in late summer / fall when tops turn brown and dry out ? I always cut the scapes off when they first curl around and cook them. I almost get more excited for scapes then the actual garlic. It's like a bonus. Then keep an eye out for when each leave started to brown. I was told that each leave that is still green will make the papery layers that protect your garlic. I make sure there are three green leaves left when I dig them up.
mlammerhirt
People have told me to cook them.....but what do you mix them with? Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Rockspek
I put them with anything you would put garlic or onions with. Also you can cook them in a little butter or oil and put them on top of a dish to fancy it up a bit.

turkeyfeathers
Hmmm, our sugar snap peas stems are yellowing a bit. Don't think we over nor underwatered them .Once I got the wife to move our strawberry pot more into the sun they are going crazy. Tomaters, peppers and lettuce seem to be doing quite well.
