Trump's Carrier Jobs Success Won't Last For Long

About those Carrier jobs in Indianapolis.

Now the chief executive of United Technologies, Carrier’s parent company, says in the end, many of those jobs (he put the figure at 800) likely will fall to automation rather than Mexico.

In an interview with CNBC’s Jim Kramer, the C.E.O., Greg Hayes was blunt.

“We’re gonna make up $16 million investment in that factory in Indianapolis to automate to drive the cost down so that we can continue to be competitive. Now is it as cheap as moving to Mexico with lower cost labor? No. But we will make that plant competitive just because we’ll make the capital investments there.”

MR. CRAMER: “Right.”

MR. HAYES: “But what that ultimately means is there will be fewer jobs.”

Fewer jobs are better then no jobs..... 16 million in construction is better in Ohio then Mexico. Money kept here by United Tech. Us is better then United Tech Mex. See a trend in that up? Yes your friends barry and hill would be waving goodby and shrugging thier shoulders, but hey what do they care thier set for life.

Can you imagine 800 people working, instead of collecting welfare, & food stamps.   800 people paying property taxes, 800 people shopping, spending money in their local towns.  But clothes, cars, food,  guns, ammo.    800 people paying sales tax, federal tax, SS tax !!!

An economy thriving in IN because of Trump.   can you imagine that !!!!

Keep up here uptown.... They planned on getting rid of 1600 jobs.... To Mexico.. Now they will spend 16 million in upgrades (more jobs, economic activity). Will jobs be lost to automation yep, but it beats loosing 1600 jobs and a 16 million dollar investment.

Uptown, if you broadened your view beyond your personal dislike/hatred for Donald Trump, and your admiration for Socialism and a big-daddy government, you'd maybe see that Trump is actually on to something. Then again, self-admitted lazy clock-punchers aren't really going to do very well in this new reality of US manufacturing anyway, regardless who's seated in DC.

There is a better than 50/50 chance that the robotics and other automation used will be designed, patented, and built in the US by the time Carrier and UT start acting on this. Remember, Trump's strategy is to make US manufacturing viable again by reducing tax burdens, regulatory burdens, energy cost burdens, health care cost burdens, so that companies can get started and then reinvest in themselves and grow. You know, produce jobs and quality products. Part of the $16m investment will be spent modernizing the plant: electrical service and distribution, HVAC systems, physical floor plan modifications, etc, most of which will be done by local architects, engineers, and tradespeople. The eventual automation will likely be monitored and maintained by Carrier employees retrained by local colleges and trade schools......
