Baiting wasn't always legal in NJ, only recently...

My 15 point non-typical was not taken over bait with the bow

And this buck was not taken over bait

So what was the difference? I can't tell ya, they all taste the same! Maybe Uncle Ted has the answer for ya!

I cant say i can relate to the baiting thing. At least not to a pile of cracked corn. Hunting over a food source vs. a bait pile is a little different. I agree with Uncle Ted it is all baiting to a degree but you are not going to be able to pinpoint the exact spot where a deer will be standing in a 100 acre field like when you hunt over a pile.

I prefer to hunt travel corridors and funnels.

To each his own I guess.

Ted makes some good points.. especially the point about if you don't like it.. don't do it! baiting will never be my cup of tea.. but if that's yours and it's legal.. have at it... the point about not fighting amongst ourselves is a good one.. the old.."shut up and hunt" rule is a good one I think. Have your opinions.. and offer them to others... just don't impose your way on others. After all we all have the same goal and that is to make sure our hunting rights are preserved for us and future generation s of hunters.

Joe,

I real good point. You agreed with Steve the other day in the thread about accessing land on L.I.  We as a group need to be doing more of this. We are our worst enemy. I wonder what the DEC thinks? Maybe it's up to us the (semi-senior members-ouch) of our group to spread the word. Lay down your arms come together and get something done. We all love to hunt and we should make it a great experience for all (crossbows included!)

my opinion is, some need to get over the whole baiting thing... If its legal in his state and he chooses to do it who cares...  if he was doing it in NY then thats another story. I think its true what they say, HUNTERS are our own worse enemy... Im not the biggest Ted fan but he does speak alot of truth and those who are perfectly fine not hunting over bait then great but its legal in his state and he chooses to do so. not a big deal...
