Guard/Reserve get Veteran Status

And if you served in Guard or Reserve and did not do 20 years and were not activated during any time of your service, your not a veteran in the eyes of the government or other service members. Even though you served your reserve time and were honorably discharged.

Yeah I hear ya ..... one 6-8 year hitch and you barely get a thank you when you leave !  But lets face it I/You/We did'nt  serve expecting any thanks !

Yep I did 6 in USMC Reserve gave it everything. Would I do it again? Yes sir!

The same thing happened with the merchant marines...I had to research it when we were looking for collage $$ breaks... My father was a MM ..We were estranged hadn't spoken in years...but I will do anything for my kids...he brought me his paper work,which was appreciated...didn't help us, but as usual, learned a little something...

I did my 8 years as a marine infantry reservist, I spent 2005 in iraq. With or without what the gov't wants to label people doesn't make a difference to me. I'm interested in what others think though, there's nothing to gain that I know of just because the gov't now says your a vetran. However after 20 years of being in the reserves you can collect a pension I believe. So I'd bet the wording has more to do with that than making reservists or tampons (that's what active duty guys liked to call us) happy.
