Vortex Diamondback 3.5-10x50/ Ruger 10/.22

Overkill? Looking for some optics for my daughters new in the box 30th anniversary Ruger 10/.22   See Cabela's has regular price at $250 and this is on sale for $150 right now.  Looking to spend up to $150 so other suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance

If I thought I needed a variable, I'd check out some of the quality compacts available.

My 10/22 wears  a Burris 4powerX 20mm   compact . Lawdwaz   has a Leupold 4 powerX 33   on his....

It doesn't  take a very big scope to make a small  carbine like the 10/22 top heavy.

Cabela's has some Vortex Crossfire 2 (& scout) scopes 3-5 & 3-7 on sale & they have some pretty good reviews. Might be just right for a 22.   I have a 2x red dot on my 10/22 but thinking of replacing it.
