Doc
I still think a free-ride on the public dole is probably a great way to have our college quality begin to resemble the same failures that our public high schools are afflicted with. People taking advantage of the system as just another freebie to be used and abused (for as long as they can play it). It is likely just another recruitment effort for filling the pipeline with a new gang of full-time protesters and hell-raisers for whatever pinko Cuomo-cause that comes along.
The_Field_Ager
Private schools are again now talking about 3-1 bachelor and Master degree combos as a means to address rising costs and raise enrollment. Education quality is the first casualty in the race for bums on seats Edited April 14, 2017 by Papist
Five Seasons
as hypocritical as it sounds I'd support an assistance program fro the trades. Not enough good plumbers, electricians, carpenters etc out there. I have a family friend who is now in her 6th year of school earning her doctorate in "Social Welfare". Her current job is siblings specialist at a family services group. Now don't get me wrong, we need these services in society. But do we need phd's? Do we need to pay for these phd's? That creates a vicious loop right there.
philoshop
Check out mikeroweworks.com when you get a chance. Mike Rowe is the guy from "Dirty Jobs" TV fame, and he has a foundation that provides trade school scholarships to young people willing to learn a valuable trade. There are currently 5.6 million skilled trade jobs available in this country without people to fill them. A skilled welder who's willing to travel can easily make $150,000 a year right now, likely to double soon with the new pipelines being approved... Reminds me of a joke: How do you get a 'Gender Studies' college graduate off your porch? You pay them for your pizza.
