Found this guy on the road in Binghamton. Seems there starting to repopulate the southern tier. Ive seen one hunting before and my wife saw one a few months ago cross the road while she was driving.

So what kind of habitat do these guys need. Can they flourish in open areas like ag lands?

I watched one for about 10 minutes pre-turkey season a couple years ago. He was investigating a creek edge and just prowling around. Very neat. About 10 days ago I had another run across the road about 30 feet in front of my car. They are a beautiful animal. Was it in condition for you to try to save the hide?

I think the DEC came and got it. I sent them an e-mail and they wanted to know where it was. and then it was gone.  I found a dead otter on the road in Broome county one time and they came and got that to. Here's the otter I found.

I really don't know, I know they flourish in the Dacks so I guess all the Farm land that is turning back into woods is drawing them south. One of there favorite foods is very over populated around here. Porcupines. They are the only enemy of the porcupine, and they are adapted to flip them over and eat them. and there are alot of them around where I live.

They are primarily found in large stretches of woods like are found in the Adks, Tug Hill, the Catskills,- not really border country, or hedgerow farm country.

i have been seeing alot of fisher in chenango county on my property.

Fishers are starting to show up here in Steuben County in the southern tier..

Some of my friends who trap have caught and released several in the last couple of years.. Another friend saw one while he was squirrel hunting..

Fishers are adept at catching squirrels ( and other rodents) and there are plenty of them here..

They are slowly making there way to PA. My buddy got one on his trail camera and my dad saw one while he was archery hunting this year.

Fisher can adapt. They feed on red squirrels as their main diet. I think years ago they were introduced in the dacks to help with the porky population. They feed on a number of porkies as well. But I believe they will also feed on rabbits, mice, birds and the occasional gut pile. The habitat in the southern part of the states is likely changing to accomodate the fisher.

They are pretty abundant here in the catskills. A friend at work traps and he's been catching quite a few the last couple years.  Ive seen them before he skinned em and they are a very cool animal. and they are tough s.o.b. s

If they feed on red squirrels, I hope one shows up in my area.  Red squirrels keep getting into my stuff and I have to keep shooting them.

DEC has a Fisher Sighting Reporting project on going.. Saw 2 last year in Olive..

Not a huntable species, but you can trap them.. They were NASTY sounding, chasing easch other for over 1/2 hour..
