bubba
could someone please define ethics for me? Well at least the state definition for hunter ed. Then justify how it is ok to bend the rules.

bubba
which shows you dont know if you did it is very relevant.
bubba
ok ill tell you the text book definition. Doing the right thing even if you know you have no chance of getting caught doing the wrong thing. Now tell me how it is irrelevant. But this is the last I have to say because this is above argument, but give it your best shot.
First-light
Feelings, laws, and social norms can deviate from what is ethical. So it is necessary to constantly examine one's standards to ensure that they are reasonable and well-founded. I would say shooting 5-10 minutes before or after is reasonable and well-founded. bubba
so why bother to have any laws if they are all subject to interpretation. I hope for your sake you never have a dec violation in my township I hear the JP is pretty rough. But when I fined you, I would just be a wannabe out to get you. nyantler
Feelings, laws, and social norms can deviate from what is ethical. So it is necessary to constantly examine one's standards to ensure that they are reasonable and well-founded. I would say shooting 5-10 minutes before or after is reasonable and well-founded. and again much like Rocket you would be wrong... and it would still be illegal in the eyes of the law... and in the eyes of many other hunters who hunt by the letter of the law... only reasonable to you and definitely not well founded... if those are your standards.. then you are a poacher... no differnet than the guy shooting the deer out of his vehicle at night with a spotlight... even if the time was changed to 5-10 minutes earlier than the present shooting light to accomadate your "well-founded" standard you would think it was ok to shoot 5-10 minutes before that.. and it never ends... the law wasn't written for you to decide what was the appropriate legal shooting time in your eyes... why don't we just make the law "when ever Burt thinks its a good time to shoot" and we'll all call you up to see when is the best time in the morning to start wailing away at the first deer we see... First-light
Your wrong Joe, it would end. Shooting within a reasonable time is fine with me. You push back that time, like we had years ago, there will not be enough light to shoot. I am not a poacher.
bubba
If you shoot illegally before legal light yes you are whether it be 5 minutes or midnight. The crime is the same. The penalties ar the same and the misdemeanor on your record is the same.
First-light
I'm not a poacher, never in all my years hunting have I ever taken a deer illegally. We know where we all stand.

nyantler
like yourself Rocket.. Burt reads what he thinks we're saying instead of what is actually said.. both of you must have a big guilt complex.
Pat Rockets
Guilty of posting video..durring legal hours..yup
First-light
You got me Joe, guilt complex it's all coming back now. When I got my first bb gun At the age of 10 I put out bread in my backyard and baited some crows into coming in. I shot one of them, yes shot one. It died right there. I feel much better now the guilt is gone, thanks. I think I'm done with this thread, time to go to Central park and feed the birds.

steve863
Burt, just don't tell them that you shot that crow 5 minutes before or after legal shooting time, or else they will turn you in for sure! LOL I think a lot of hunters in NYS have the DEC hotline programmed into their cellphones and call in every vehicles license plate numbers they see thru their binoculars while sitting in their treestands 75 yards away from the road just to be on the safe side! LOL
