I didn't know what they were called but used to have wars with them when I was a kid

We had  an old guy that would let us clear all the chestnuts we could carry from his yard to take in the woods and have chestnut wars.

Used to do that as a kid also.those things can leave welts if wind em up well enough!!

You guys didn't pull the hulls off first did you? Heck no here. Still live in the area I grew up in and can point out every chestnut ,walnut and apple tree around. Wars with all. Metal garbage can lids were the cats pajamas for a shield. Mom never could figure out why they were all dented up lol

On serious note I wonder if you in fact grew any chestnut trees back there now

Most of the woods are houses now .
