Late season LI hunt

Got together with my brother and a friend to hunt out east on Long Island. It was a great day we walked 7.5 miles and saw 15 deer. We had a couple of shots but nothing connected.

I jumped some real nice deer. I believe one was a real nice shed buck, he was big and had the body of a buck but no head gear. It was a great day out there and so many deer. We were in spot 41 and 42 on rt 51.

That's awesome! I only ever hunted LI once and got yelled at by some guys, so I haven't been back for deer. Kudos for braving the public lands during the shotgun season.

Didn't see another hunter. We took two big spots so that's probably why.

So did you get your choice at a spot? I really didn't know what i was doing when I went out there as I was new to Bowhunting at the time. I keep telling my self ill get back out, but I'm making it a goal of mine to get a deer on the island next year.

Burt, you saw all those deer and none of you connected??  Man, if I was a deer I'd want to be hunted by you guys. Odds would be great that I wouldn't end up hanging on a meat pole!  LOL

Now my brother did most of the missing. Later in the day he noticed his scope was loose! excuses excuses.....

The three of us managed to see only 2 deer today. No shots so no misses!!! lol Was about 45 degrees and the ticks were out. I had about 20 of them on my pants. Found 1 on my leg when I went to shower. Hopefully that is it. At the check in station there was a nice doe aged at 6.5 years.

I was out hiking in a no hunting park on the island over the weekend. Saw some deer trails and was tempted to go in looking for sheds and whatnot. Ticks were exactly the reason I didn't. Wasn't wearing any treated clothes and I could here the mice hopping around. No doubt I would've emerged looking like a poppy seed bagel.

You are lucky I went out numerous times and saw nothing except on my way back to ridge.

I hate leaving the spots and seeing them all on the side of the road adds insult to injury emoji30.png

You will learn a few things and here is one. That first time out we had the wind in our favor on the drives and it was blowing 15 mph plus. They couldn't smell or hear us. Second time out wind from different direction and only blowing 5 mph.
