Antlers...still?

On my way into work this morning had to stop for deer crossing after 11 flatheads cross the 12th deer was a six-pointer still holding his antlers... I would say most likely when there's that many doe's his testosterone levels are high

Y. ou never know.  I saw a big 130 class 10 pointer chasing does 2 days before st pattys day last year.  Second time I have seen that in my life.  Plus last year alot of bucks where still holding in march in my area...........

I have seen antlers on bucks up to April 14th.. and found them fresh on the 16th( I know they were fresh as they were on the lawn and weren't there the day before)

When the doe to buck ratio is to high, bucks can't breeds all the does in a "normal" time.. so, the bucks will hold their antlers till 1 month after the last does are bred to make sure they are "covered"... In a typical year, 1 buck can breed 2-3 does during the Nov. Rut then another 2-3 does in the Dec. rut... So if the doe to buck ratio is higher than 6 to 1 you will have bucks hold their horns through Jan. or Feb. depending on the ratio.. Thinking if they still have them now, it's over 10 does per buck in that area... Not good for the deer herd by any means..
