rebal
I have a camp near Tupper Lake and like to hunt deer & bear in the area. Muzzleloading week is my favorite time to hunt. I use early bear season to scout.

capt_terry
I'm not much of a fan of Facebook. Maybe I never learned to use it properly. But it seems everytime I looked at my page I had a lot of useless dribble from people that had nothing of interest to say and nothing but time to say it. Then I was getting bombarded by people that I didn't know requesting to be my friend probably so the could send me more useless dribble. CJF
I guess I count. I was born and raised in Vernon, NY near Vernon Downs and Turning Stone Casino. I have a lifetime Big Game License in NY, I was the region 6 Big Game Committee member on the New York State Conservation Council for many years and I still own a deer camp in Forestport, NY. I returned home last season and shot a nice 8 point up above the Madison county dump. but alas the past 10 years I have been living in North Carolina where I am only allowed to shoot 2 bucks and and an unlimited amount of doe each season from Sept. 11 to Jan

jimbodwb
I live in the city of Oneida and hunt a farm in the town of Ilion. I used to live in the Albany area and hunted in 4L but the deer population is scarce there. I just shot my first deer(5 point) last year on the farm in Ilion. I would like to find a couple more decent areas to hunt a little closer to my house. I have always hunted state land and last year was the first time I hunted private land. Anyone got any suggestions about state land in Madison/Oneida counties? I also want to join a rod and gun club. Does anyone know of any good ones around my area? rebal
I hunt private & public land in town of Piercefield, next to Franklin county. I live in Albany area but much prefer hunting northern NY. Hunting around home does not seem like "Hunting" anymore.
Doc
Hunting around home does not seem like "Hunting" anymore. Why is that?? Doc
rebal
Area around home is getting sub-divided, posted and developed = smaller "Patches" to still hunt or stalk; Fewer areas to hunt plus more hunters= less enjoyment for me. I prefer "Big woods" with fewer hunters and large tracks of forest. Hunting northern woods is more difficult but more enjoyable & challenging if you like to hunt on foot. Doc
Can't argue with any of that. I too regret that I am seeing all the hunting land that I grew up hunting being subdivided and locked up. It's just a sign of the times. Doc

Dakota Dog
There is some state land you can hunt over by the Prison in Rome. If going from Rome to Verona on RT365 it would be on your right. I do beleive that it is marked. Also if you don't mind a little ride down in Brookfield they have many acres of state land out at the horse trails. I hunt on private land in Vernon and Vernon Center but my aunt and uncle have about 90 acres I also hunt in Brookfield that is surrounded by all that state land. jimbodwb
Thanks Dakota Dog. I have been looking at the state land in Brookfield but I did not know if it was any good. I will have to check it out. The land in Rome I did not know about. I will have to look it up on the DEC maps.

So, I'm taking up 'yote hunting... ;D Do you usually hunt 'yote's after deer season? I used to hunt them in PA when they were stupid and easy. Never hunted them here though. I'm going to try to help some friends decrease the numbers on their land they let me hunt. Calling, in the thick stuff using a 12 gauge and #4 shot. We'll see how it goes.....
