Snakes?! Lots of Snakes...

My dad gave me a buzz today from the property.  He said he was on the food plot and there was both a 5 ft black snake and a 4 foot copper head..

What about you guys? You come across snakes on your land??

The black is probably a black racer, be careful with the cooperhead. By me I have seen garter snakes, turtles, frogs, toads and salamanders as far as amphibians and reptiles.

I have run into copperheads on projects in WV but did't know they were in NY. I know we had a huge problem with them in the fall prior to their hybernation heading for anything waym. THey use to crawl up on the construction equipment at the end of the day for the warmth off the machines......makes for a very interesting morning the next day.

Try to identify what they are eating...remove and the should move on. On my property we has 2 wet areas in the food plot. salamanders frogs and toads. Saw hundreds of garder snakes last year. since we drained it in the fall...not one this year.

Its pretty dry near the food plots, but about 50 - 75 yards away is a spring, which is active all year round (slower in the summer though)

I haven't seen as many as usual this year. Kind of upsetting. I enjoy a good snake charming.
