Geno C
I was reading that parts of NY has cases of EHD?EHD (Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease)- Im supprised to hear that, ive heard of EHD out west but not in NY... But come to think about it ive been seeing alot of summer picks with flies around the deer and covoering the deer. i wonder if those can be biting midges? ive heard deer can become irratic and die from this disease and when you start to see dead deer in and around water sources, its a sure sign of EHD. anyone read anything or going thorugh this in there hunting grounds? Doewhacker
Yup we had it here in Albany county in Voorheesville a few years ago, it stopped once it got cold and killed off the bugs. Its a pretty nasty thing for a deer herd to suffer through and has the potential to drop a bunch of deer rapidly.
Geno C
its pretty crazy... i guess with this high heat and dry weather we have been having lately might have something to do with as well? EHD is a nasty problem to have on a deer heard. Each deer is susceptible to it as as well... i hear you will usually always find them in and around water sources when they pass, so keep an eye out for expired deer by water. If you do find a deer by water you might want to report it to DEC to examine...
