Nytracker
My trailer is a couple years old now . I want to treat the decking / preserve. On the farm back in the day we use to mix oil and kerosene or diesel fuel . For the life of me I cant remember the ratio. I'm thinking it was 5 parts oil to one part diesel. Painted on the hottest days . We use to do the hay wagons between cuttings fourth of july weekend. I dont remember changing boards very often . I gave up treating my house deck and went to composit . Anybody have the recipe. Pygmy probably knows ... he probably dabbed a bit behind his ears before heading off to the green onion on Friday night.

The pretty ladies dance on Saturday Night.....It's " The last Lap" now...Locally known as " The Last Lick"... Back when I was a youngster, when it was just a beer joint , it was probably the best place around Dogpatch to get your ass handed to you....Nowadays, it's much more peaceful.... G-Man
We did 4 to 1 used motor oil to fuel oil On our hay wagons last.about 20 years untreated lumber
mowin
I always did what ever I had on hand. If I had a few quarts of old motor oil after a oil change and had some left after starting the burning barrel, or campfire, I mixed it with a gal or so of diesel and laid it on thick during a hot streak. Realistically, I don't think it helped. I haven't done it in years. My decking on my landscaping trailer is 11 yrs old PT boards, and has never been treated with the oil/fuel method. It's Used every day during the spring to fall to haul mowers and smaller equipment around. My 14k equipment trailer is 6 yrs old, and I need to replace the decking this fall. Only used 2-3 times a month, and sometimes sits longer. I really think the less it's used, the more the "treating" method may help, but why didn't the less used trailer with the same decking boards need replacing? Nytracker
I honestly believe the pressure treatment is hit or miss depending on the manufacture. I have some that were real green and wet on purchase that have been sitting on rocks outside going on 25 years . Last deck I built was mich lighter and dry at purchase started checking at 3 years and had to be replaced at 6 .
