Pygmy
I planted it August 31...It is turning a nice light green now ....I also had about 20 pounds of buckwheat seed that was given to me by a friend, so I seeded that right on top...The BW is up about an inch now and will probably be promptly mowed down by the deer, but what the heck... I plan to buy a bag of rye seed and seed over any sparse or bare spots that may develop...Looking good so far..Hope we get enough rain to maintain it...

wolc123
That buckwheat is tough stuff. I bush hogged some that was no where near ripe (still in the white flower stage) a few weeks ago, then went over it a few times with a disk. That "unripe" buckwheat sprouted pretty thick. I buried it again today with a drag prior to seeding wheat/soybean/white clover mix.
LET EM GROW
Glad to hear it MR Pygmy! Buckwheat will be a big draw until frost. a 25 acre field of buckwheat next to me has been annihilated, as well as a 18 acre soybean field.. neither field got over 15" tall.
