Ice Fishing Locations

I was wondering if anyone knows of any local areas that are already frozen over enough to take the kids ice fishing.  Looking for some where that's less than a 30 minute drive for their first time out.  With hockey practices and stuff we will most likely only have a couple hrs max to fish.  One of these days I'll get them out to hardwood or case lake.   Years ago I ice fished Dan Lake in East Amherst does anyone know if the ice there is thick enough yet?    I'm located in Cheektowaga.

I wasn't sure if it was iced over or not down there yet.  I'll get them down there for some perch and maybe bring the hockey sticks and a puck.

Fun Fact: In Rhode Island it was illegal to wear skates while ice fishing. I guess they thought you could cover too much ground. Quads are fine though lol

Big old lake Erie will be locked up solid in the next day or so..........can't wait to see the diehards leaving Hamburg Beach in masses on Sat. And Sunday.

I would avoid it if the wind is picking up ,I noticed on windy days there is nobody on the small boat harbour fishing . A side not to that is the amount of ice pack that came over the break wall is amazing to see.
