It's All Worth It

This time of year, I spend a lot of time reading and responding to "4-H Project Record Books". It's really a lot of fun to read about the projects these kids have been doing, and seeing the learning that has occurred through their involvement. I see a lot of "I learned not to stab myself with the needle" and such. However, I see several that really warm my heart and make me proud to be doing the work that I'm doing. I recently read from an 11 year old's book "4-H makes me feel good about myself"...whew.

Anyways, it's always special when I see growth in my Shooting Sports kids, case in point, the narrative below. This is from a girl who went from the lowest of lows when her bow malfunctioned at the NYS 4-H Shoot, and after members and volunteers all worked their butts off to get it back together, ended up taking 3rd place in Field Archery. I love it when these kids see the deeper lessons. I always say that we use Shooting Sports (or any number of other projects) as conduits to teach meaningful life skills. Stories like this let me know that I'm being successful in that.

Awesome job man!

A friend of mine had his 3 kids in the local 4-H program. The youngest is now 20-21 years old and man all 3 of those kids are stand up adults that any parent would be proud of.

I have talked to my daughter about joining the program before but haven't gotten her to do it yet.
