Hi all,

I'm 30 and just getting into hunting for the first time. Always thought I'd like to hunt but with college and everything else taking up 150% of my time I just never went for it. Plus with no close family members who hunt, I really didnt have anyone to show me the ropes so to speak. So now I've been done with school for 5 years or so and married up, bought a house and had a couple of kids, I figured if I didnt go for it now, it would never happen. I live in the Town of Vernon in 6P.

I've been doing some reading here over the last month or so and figured I'd dive right in, who knows, maybe someone right near me might be willing to teach me a thing or two!

Check out your local rifle range and local gun clubs/stores. Otherwise welcome to hunting, best of luck and be safe! If you like bow and arrow it can open another world into hunting. Buy and know how to use a GPS, map and compass and have all 3. Plan on staying the night everytime you hunt, if you don't no big deal, IF you do stay the night you will be thankfull you prepaired for it. If cell service works in your area charge your bat and shut it off untile needed... Best hunt is when all come back safe, all else is just details!!! What type of hunting do you want to do?

Thanks for the welcome. I see nyantler is only a few miles down the road from me, good to see there are some from my area on here!

NFA: I have already joined the rod and gun club in my town and attended a meeting. Looks to be about 100 members so I'll have to start rubbing elbows and get to know them. Also thanks for the advice on what to bring. I have a day pack right now and have it stocked up with some small food stuff, extra socks, gloves shirt etc. plus a first aid kit. (i work in sports medicine, so my first aid kit could easily get too big too fast) but I kept it reasonable. I have been out for turkey twice this season so far with a guy i've met thru work. I'm thinking I'll be hunting mostly turkey and whitetail at this point. Maybe try some other types of game once I get a little bit more experience. I have a rifle, and have borrowed a shotgun for turkey.

I definiatly agree on the safety thing, and hopefully my training wont ever need to be utilized in the woods.
