My Mom and Dad were from the " Old " country and we always had Tongue when I was growing up ... loved it ! Never had Deer Tongue , I'll have to ask my butcher to wrap it up separately this season !

Both dogs this morning headed behind the wood shed. I went to get them and I found this. Looks like it was there a while. Maggots were all over its backside. Think maybe something bit it while chasing but it got away? Ended up there and died of the heat??? There is a thick hedgerow 20 feet from there. Pretty small for this time of year. I'll get rid of it after work. Put it in the woods or dig a hole???

I never have enough to pressure can, so I just hot pack it and let it cool, cap and put in the fridge. I have eaten it six months old...just fine. I still have most of a jar in the back from december, which I forgot about...I will check it out, if not funky...eat a chunk....and go from there. I really dont like to go quite this long with a cold pack though. Likely as it is in almost strait vinegar, it should be fine.

Watched a hen Turkey scratching around in one of my pastures with a nice batch of poults in tow, hopefully they will grow up to maturity. Al

I got up about 3am and watched for about an hour. Told my wife the next day that I have never seen lightning like that before in my 60 years.
