  1. Not wearing a back tag is fine, I always said as long as it’s on your person and can produce it when stopped should suffice. Not being issued the synthetic license is what annoys me. Bottom line, the state is broke because of the shrinking tax base and their making us use our own paper. They recommend using our own ziplock bag for the paper when tagging a deer. I predict a lot of missing tags when you arrive at your destination and find the tag missing from the deers ear.

  2. As a general rule, I never buy premixed stuff. You never know how long it’s been sitting on a shelf in some warehouse. Get the concentrate and mix your own.

  3. I think you are panicking for nothing NC . I have been using the same Sawyers .05 unscented mix for at least 15 years. Been spraying it on any clothes I use to go in the woods for summer checking cameras and cutting up fire pit wood, hunting in the fall, and and a very light spray for winter. I have no concerns. I spray it both in and out . For summer I wear a very thin coverall with a pair of jeans shorts and a tee shirt underneath. So the coverall is rubbing on my skin. Never a tick bite , No rashes of any kind , or any other issue . I actually put a heavy spray on that coverall and let it totally dry for a day. I know tons of people doing the same for hiking , checking cams , and camping . Never heard of any issues from anybody . The campers I know not only spray their clothes , they spray the inside of their sleeping bags . No concerns or ill effects from anyone. And its been years they have been doing this. A couple guys I know actually wipe a very light diluted mix on their dogs . No issues there either. But dont spray anywhere near a cat where they can get it on them while its wet. They could get sick from it. Its fine after its dry. I actually have sprayed our cats bed and dried it . Found dead ticks in there from them dragging them in when they go outside. Never affected any of the cats at all . Once the spray is dry , everything is good to go . One last thing . I spoke to the company a while back. One of their biggest clients is the military. Permethrin works on all kinds of critters. Sand fleas in the middle east , and all kinds of swamp bugs in the jungles. Do you think for one second they would let our soldiers use that stuff if they knew it was harmful to them ?

  6. I was able to download a PDF file from the DEC website. I can print it as many times as I want, as long as I have access to a printer. Some people say that cheaters are going to cheat regardless of the situation. But I bet this change will make it more tempting for some to dabble on the wrong side of the law / regulations. I have a computer - no printer.

  7. Nope, you don't need to call the DEC to ask them to print it again. I bought mine online and they email you a pdf of your license and you can print it 1000 times if you want. Why in the world wouldn't the DEC think that this will just tempt people to do exactly what you were describing is beyond me. The only way these plain paper tags would work without tempting people to keep killing on the same tag is if they made people phone or text in their kill into the DEC right away. Right now you still have 7 days to report your kill. Plenty of time to bring your deer home, put it in the freezer and kill again on the same reprinted tags. Unreal how stupid the DEC is. As far as the backtags getting scrapped I could care less. Never bothered me to wear it. I simply hooked it on to my backpack which I always have with me.

  8. So I guess if you want to hunt, you better have a computer. Does everyone have a computer and printer? probably most do, but does every hunter have computers and printers?

  9. New York was one of the few states that required a back tag, but only in the Southern Zone (Northen Zone and Catskill Park did not require back tags). It's unclear to me why there were differences between Northern and Southern Zone and it never made any sense to me. I'm glad to see New York "catching up" with other states, but, like most others, it never really bothered me to wear a back tag. I did find it annoying when it scraped against the tree when shifting around in my treestand but, otherwise, it was never a big deal.
