  1. I would get him a slug barrel with rifling and a cantilevered scope mount. the way that a 870 barrel attaches to the receiver, every time you change barrels or even tighten down the circular nut at the end of the magazine, the point of impact will change. But not with a scope mounted on a csntilivered barrel.
  2. just got a B&D little chainsw. Works well for light trimming,
  3. and that Marlin looks like it might be one of the half octagonal/half round barrel models. If so it is a rare bird. Some of them were also made take-down.
  4. Grouse - almost looks like that guy on the right has a Luger pistol in his holster. Hard to tell, a little indistinct on my computer screen.
  5. Grouse- in that Adk. picture, in addition of the two savage 99's, it looks like there is a Remington model 14 carried by the guy on the left of the picture. My ex-wife carried on in .32 Remington for a couple of years. Great brush gun.
  6. probably obvious to everyone, but the remington 150 grain shells that are shown in this post are spitzer (or at least pointed). Generally not considered safe in tube magazine rifles, although I know some folks run them. Lots of folks around here use them in their 760's
  7. just put away my turkey gear, ordered a couple new diaphram calls, some other gear. Getting stands ready for deer season and a couple of food plots. Got one Ontario charter left, and a few trout streams to hit. Lots of Honey-do stuff. More stuff to do than time, plus a couple of overdue forestry plans/contracts.
  8. Don't hunt them any more. Used to barbecue a couple every year. Tastes like cottontail rabbit.
  9. Wife currently has 6 silky eggs that she has put under a broody hen, figures they wlll hatch around June. She is thinking about puttins some guinea fowl eggs under another broody hen (she has successfully done this b4.
  10. Doc- one of my hunting buddies told me that his nephew had a battery being charged for a drill catch on fire. A couple of months ago a logger up the road had his cell phone charging in his garage and it caught on fire. some damage in his attached garage, but the house was saved. I generally do not charge any of my cell phones or battery powered equipment unless I am on site. Fasteddie - I have Dewalt 18volt that I have converted to 20 volt, with drills, reipricating saws, lights, and hammer drills. But I got given a new B&D 20V glue gun.. Then got 2 sets of drills and drill drivers stupidly cheap on clearence. Actually like the B&D drills better asthey are much lighter and I am a old guy. My son liked them so he ordered a set. So between us we have 8 batteries. I have bought a electric pole saw that works pretty good and just got a B&D little chainsaw that seems to work fine for light stuff. Bought a weed eater and it was lacking in testicular fortitude so I returned that.
  11. I've seen the very young chicks on 2 instances. Look like a oversized yellowish-brown cotton ball with stubby little legs and a disportionatly long bill
  12. fastedddie- I have the same problem/concern with my regular hearing aids. I strung the two of them together with fine cord and I have a clip that goes to my collar. That said, I find them annoying and fairly ineffectual so I seldom wear them. Annoys wife. Those Axil GS extremes that Airedale has look like something worth trying. Its annoying to have a bird in front of you that you can see gobble but can't hear them. Airdale- do they have the safety shut down that protedts you ears when firing a rifle or shotgun?
  13. and also not to forget those that came back physically and mentally shattered.
  14. chicken manure when spread has a potent odor, I believe from the ammonia in it. Liquid manure is often done anaerobiclly and really smells potent to me. Almost seems like it is "burning" your nose.
  15. grouse- was the photo labelled 1940? Ladies dresses look older than that. Love the photos you post.
  16. skin (dont worry about couple of cuts in the hide, it ain't worth the effort anymore), remove the top loin, 1/4 the deer, Debone the deer 1/4's, cut into steaks and roasts, package in individual family portions, grind trim. Break out the beer. I remove all the "white skin", but the choice is yours. If you have a second refigerator, you can chilll the 1/4's for a day or two to finish up.
  17. be careful going through brush and briars. The fabric will pill and lose its water repellency.
  18. the 250 yard range caught my eye. Most of our local ranges only go out to 100 or 150 yards. Nice if you ever want to go out west.
  19. I was under the impression that they generally had regular muzzleloaders and only had the one air rifle.
  20. hope they find some folks. Good first job for someone going into forestry or wild life management. I went to Colby years ago, as did my son and stepson. Lots of folks that go onto professional positions in DEC and other agencies start here. I know I did.
  21. basically the same recipe that we use, except I usually throw in some red pepper flakes and occasionally use balsamic vinegar. I've been lazy a couple of times and used the saved juice of Bell View Hot and Sweet Garlic Cucumber Pickles as the pickling liquid.
  22. Greene Hunter - that looks like the parking area in front of our local bar.
