Shoots100 replied to Shoots100's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Came off of an AR10. -
I have a take off Black Thordsen Gen II stock that needs a good home. Never been used. Tape is holding in the mounting bolt. No box. $55 shipped to a member here.

Not what I wanted to see when signing on too, been around to much sickness lately and my faith has been waning. Just as I was going to say a prayer, my wife yelled at me to come outside and there was a bright and beautiful rainbow across the eastern sky. I took this as a sign from God, letting me know that although times are tough, he's still there and not to lose faith. So we're all hoping for good results and a speedy recovery for your wife. SJC

I work in NYC hospitals and with this crap going on, I said F@#K it and put a bid on and won one of my bucket list rifles. I'm saving on gas and time getting into and out of the city, except for the freaking tolls. It usually takes me an hour or more to get home, but now I'm getting home in 25 minutes and that's with being easy on the pedal. My wife has been laid off for almost a month and she's going stir crazy, but she's been pretty frugal on spending here and there to clean up the house and check off some of the items on the honey do list. So I'm saving in some places and spending in others and I really don't care if I come out even. SJC

Nice Truck. You need that bionic arm to help you get up into it !!! SJC

I fill the freezer first, help the young hunters fill their tags, then get picky as the season winds down and the big bucks get smarter + harder to hunt. I would let a first time hunter shoot the smaller buck, or any one of those legal bucks to get them back into the woods again. SJC

My possum buddy. Even with the crappy weather, the thermion scope had no issues seeing anything that moved. https://youtu.be/zX0BMf4bgnw

Wow, I thought it always ended Midnight March 31. Glad I went out last night, even though it was a crappy night to hunt, I did see a lot more Deer, Rabbit and a possum that flanked me the whole way out of the woods. Probably the possums way of thanking me for getting rid of the three coyote that were wreaking havoc in the area. I wish my thermal scope issues happened earlier in the year, as I lost a good months time waiting for the new one to arrive. This year Wile E won't know what hit it. SJC

Hit two different places and nothing, not a thing moving around except Deer and Mice. Gonna try to get out tonight, but mother nature has decided to piss all over my area. Unless their really hungry, I don't expect anything to be moving around in the pouring rain, except crazy coyote hunters with three days left in the season. SJC

A nice walk in the cold air is just what you need to get that congestion out of your lungs, just do it by yourself IE- social distancing. SJC

Very nice stands, but too many stairs for my old man to climb. He'd rather hunt in his Silverado stand. SJC

Not the F'ing coyote I was going for, but the new scope is working well. Gonna head out again tonight before the ban takes effect. -
I used to have issues with stuck cases when loading surplus 50bmg with the roll on lube using lee die, but after spraying the cases with hornady one shot lube, all was good. If it'll work on surplus 50bmg brass, it'll work on those puny .223 brass cases. SJC

6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Creedmoor, or 6.8 SPC
Shoots100 replied to NonTypical's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I'm not a proponent of the 300 BO either, but it does fit into the OP's AR15 platform and it will kill you just as dead as a lot of other calibers inside 200 yards, especially if loaded with the lehigh DOA projectile. Again, I'm not a 300BO fan boy, just stating the facts. SJC -
6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Creedmoor, or 6.8 SPC
Shoots100 replied to NonTypical's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
6.8 spc brass is cheaper than 6.5 Grendel brass. While both rounds will feed out of a std 5.56 magazine, the 6.8 is known to feed a little better, because the 6.5 is based off of the 7.62x 39 case dimensions and will tend to bind, especially in poly magazines. For best function, It's recommended to get magazines made to fit those rounds though. Since Moog and Mr groundhog actually shoot the 6.8, they'll be able to attest to what mags work the best. I looked around and stores have loaded ammo available in both calibers, and for around the same price too. The same with components available for reloading both cartridges. Your just going to have to flip a coin. SJC -
Added a 10 mm 1911 to the collection
Shoots100 replied to rob-c's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Well, since you got a 10mm, time to return the gesture to your wife. 10mm 30 year anniversary presents and it'll keep her 357 company. -

Since your a ruger guy and you have a great wife, you need to look into getting the Gp-100 10mm and turn it into a 10mm magnum. That's a wheel gun ready for any situation. SJC -
2/29 Last day grouse and a coyote hunt
Shoots100 replied to Shoots100's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
With the new thermal, It won't need to cross the creek. I didn't mention that I went to use my old Pete Rickards rabbit squealer call and found that the reed + holder were missing. That mouth call and the E caller has been a good combo for taking down coyotes over the decades. I bought it at Rickards store in cobleskill. That bummed me out worse than not getting a shot at the coyote. SJC -
I went out with my brother and his brit yesterday for the last day of grouse season and like all of the other times we went out in NY, no grouse or even a shot taken. Pathetic year hunting grouse in NY state. I decided to do some coyote hunting at a pc of land on the way home and while I didn't get anything, I did have one coyote come in after a calling duel. Only he wouldn't come past the creek that was just under 200 yards away between us. Just kept walking side to side for about 50 yards in each direction, Howling and barking the whole time, but just wouldn't step over that creek. If I had my pulsar Thermion XP38 scope, I would've taken a poke at it, but all I had is my older spectre thermal and it's sighted in at 50 yards. The coyote trotted away and on my way out, it decided to start howling again, but I decided to live and let live, as it was getting near midnight and I was tired from walking the woods all day. That coyote will be taking a dirt nap when I get my new pulsar thermal. SJC

I also took a walk in the woods this weekend and like you, saw a lot of deer sign and nothing to aim at. We scouted some new DEP and State land that we plan on deer hunting this year, so the walk was worth it, even though my brother twisted his knee pretty bad. I was so tired from hiking in the deep snow, I didn't even think about doing any predator hunting in spots where we saw a lot of fresh coyote tracks around a deer carcass. Next time, when the snow melts.

When I hunt in the woods with a thermal, I spot with white hot and have the rifle scope set on black hot. You can focus a lot better using black hot in the woods after you've spotted the target, especially with snow on the ground and the clarity of the thermal scope you have. SJC

Manuals are reloaders cook books. Manuals and word of mouth was all we had back in the day. If someone blew up a gun, you knew to drop down a few grains. The Google is your friend, but too much info can also be a hindrance. There are so many variables in the load process, manufacturers can only give the info with a use at your own risk understanding. Like all things in life, technological advancements have improved reloading components over time too. I remember when there was only a few powder and bullet manufacturers available. Now you have so many choices, it's just to much sometimes. SJC
