  1. I've been using these batteries for a long time. https://mahaenergy.com/ They last almost twice as long as store bought batteries. You need a special charger to charge them fully, as most standard battery chargers only charge to 1800 Mah.
  2. I use a PVS7 and a handheld thermal until I get to the stand, then I use a petzl red headlight.
  3. While I like the slik and bog pod tripods, it gets old adjusting and closing them down with the leg locks. I switched over to the Trigger stick years ago. Mount a hog saddle on it and your good to go. They also make a scabbard to carry them. Just don't land on it when you crash riding through a field at night and they'll last a long time.
  4. Cool beans. Keep us up to date, good or bad, but hopefully more good than bad !
  5. Whataboutism ? Another Liberal socialist term for the new world order dictionary. There were tens of thousands of Americans of all backgrounds there peacefully protesting for hours before the riot happened. Some of those same lawmakers were the ones bailing out the rioters of last year, So what about that ? I guess we'll selectively forget those past transgressions and focus on the now ? Wake up.
  6. Maybe if the Dems weren't hell bent on defunding the Police and inciting riots in 2020 without any care to Joe public, this wouldn't have happened ? I condemn this riot, like I condemned all of the riots, it's just that it's hard to take the left's hard stance on it now, when they were praising their rioters last year, even bailing them out of jail and chastising police for arresting rioters.
  7. No, they were only bailed out and lauded for their bravery by the left, including Harris. The same people calling for order, are the same people that defunded the Police, voting for them makes perfect sense.
  8. With Biden and Harris at the helm, we'll all be passengers of the good ship looney bin.
  9. Specious comparisons ? That's political talk for don't bring up the evil past deeds of my party, while I'm condemning your party for doing the same thing. We've been witnessing these vile actions for almost two years now and not one peep about it, just Bail reform, defunding the Police and funerals. I'm still waiting for the left to condemn the terrorist actions of ANTIF or BLM, but since both groups are the terrorist wings of the left, I won't hold my breath. Your party has lost control of it's dogs and it's going to be fun watching them chew on their masters for awhile.
  10. The cops were told to stand down , like they were told to do for months and this is the culmination of what happens when you let the patients run the psych ward. The chickens have come home to roost and they picked the capitol building to roost in. While the rest of the country had to deal with covid, crime , rioting, burning , looting and destruction, the Elite were snug in their hollowed halls surrounded by Armed security. They have no one to blame but themselves for what happened.
  11. Yes sir and I led him to far to the right on the second shot too, video don't lie. I was all discombobulated with the 6x blurry image and I actually tried to focus it before realizing it was on 6x. We still had a very fun night and as you know, night hunting adds a whole new realm of hunting disciplines that need to be learned, like loading your rifle after getting to a set and NOT racking a round in the chamber while a coyote is standing 60 yards away !!!! He got spoiled seeing so many yotes on his first real night hunt, just wish we could've dropped one. He was so smitten with his thermal, he didn't record one second of footage the whole night. In two weeks were going to try again.
  12. Well, I went up to my friends house Friday PM to deliver his TM384 thermal and give him a tutorial on how to use it. I stopped at my local range along the way, mounted the Thermion on my semi auto 35 Gunner, checked Zero at 50 and 100 yards, all set. It was crappy weather outside when I arrived, so we decided to hunt Saturday night if the weather was better. It was a little breezy, but I don't think any type of weather was going to stop him from getting some field time with his new toy. After getting busted by a Yote on the first set because of the swirling wind, we decided to head down into the low lands and try our luck. We got to our second set and didn't have to wait 5 seconds into the first call, before my friend says he see's something at the edge of the field. I look over there and it's a freaking Yote, 60 yards away. My friend didn't have his rifle loaded, so he racks a round and of course the Yote starts moving. He's new to night hunting, so I give him a pass this time. I start recording, stop it with a bark and the rest is history. How my PIP was set a 6x is beyond me, but a miss is a miss x2. To top it all off, I got a stove pipe after the second round fired. A lot of cursing was going on after the 35 second mark, when I realized I had a jam. I was going to take another shot as it stop's about 300 yards away to give us the Paw, but it was in the line of sight of the neighbors house up the hill. Why did I change rifle's before this hunt ? I guess I was bored with the rifle that already dropped 8 Yotes this season so far. On the way home Sunday I stopped at the range, mounted the thermion on the 20 practical and it was dead on from 50 to 200 yards. Next time !!!! We ended up seeing a coyote at each set and my friend is totally hooked on coyote hunting now. Thermal is addictive.
  13. One way to keep state land areas free from hunting pressure, is by not telling others about it on a public hunting forum. I found that there's a lot more people in the woods now, as the Rona has made the city slickers move out in all directions, so don't expect to find any land that's hunter/hiker free for the foreseeable future.
  14. Dec 29th, two month update. No issues with the boots and I've not taken it easy on them. I think I might buy a second pair, as now that I've found a pair of boots I like, they'll probably discontinue them.
  15. Almost a full moon, So I figured I could get to do one more hunt before the new year. Got this small female on the evening of 12/27, after almost losing it, as I had my rifle pointed downwind and it came from upwind ! The pic was taken with the AGM TM-384 monocular.
  16. Great news. Remember to keep hydrated and get outside to breathe some fresh air.
  17. There's only one real way to learn the weaknesses of your gear and how your using it. Most of the videos promoting scopes that need IR illuminators, are in open fields for a reason and now you've seen it first hand. When hunting wooded terrain in any part of the country, you need to shorten your shooting distances, lessen your IR brightness and set up in spots with shooting lanes or small open areas, where the illumination won't reflect as much. If your taking a shot at an animal over 100 yards, you need to change your hunting technique. Scanning with any type of night vision/thermal mounted on a rifle sucks and is dangerous when hunting with others. This is why a thermal spotter was recommended. I hunted for years with lights and NV scopes before being introduced to thermal optics and eventually buying my first 160 res thermal scope around the mid 90's. It's a real game changer and with the low prices of decent resolution thermal optics these days, it's worth saving up to buy one. I've only used red light filters, but have been told that green filters are primarily used in high pressure/over hunted areas, where even the minimal glow of an IR illuminator will scare off what's being hunted. I would only hunt with a light, in a state that prohibits night hunting with NV or Thermal. Come over to the Dark side !
  18. Scope base or scope mount ? If you haven't, put a little loctite on whatever "Rail" screws before tightening them. The recoil of a .243 shouldn't be loosening anything.
  19. Don't lock this up, as it's comforting for me (at least) knowing that there's some happiness coming out of this. While this year has pretty much sucked for me and my family, I have a smile on my face and a tear in my eye reading of the joy your experiencing with your granddaughter. Learning that Moogs wife is doing better, only solidifies my belief that there's a couple of new angels from my family up there listening to our prayers and forwarding them to the big guy. Keep the Faith. SJC
  20. If you show no symptoms after the 10 or 14 day quarantine, you should be able to go back to work, without a test. There are some instances where people have tested positive 5 months after getting covid. People have tested three days in a row and had mixed results. The most reliable test is the PCR test, but that takes three or four days to get the results. Since I had a serious covid rash, I had to take 2 regimes of steroids and waited until the rash disappeared to go back to work. Hope all goes well for you.
  21. Yes, $1,300 shipped. AGM ASP Micro TM384. After using this one for almost a week, I'm saving up to buy one as a backup and maybe helmet mount it. I drove around this evening for over 45 minutes trying to get some footage of deer or other animals and found one doe at 60 yards and a pair bedded at over 300 yards. While I could tell there was something alive at over 300 yards, you can see in the video, the image wasn't good enough to ID them 100% at that range. This unit is perfect for detection, not Id'ing at longer ranges. At closer ranges, it's more than adequate and the display is a lot clearer than the recorded video. Good to read that you got the wraith working and ready for sight in. You get the thermal and coyote will be knocking at your door to be shot !!!
  22. Sorry for the confusion. I think at the time I was hunting near one of those county's and was advised by a DEC friend on the caliber restrictions, so I built a rifle in .20 cal to avoid any potential problems in case I wandered into said county(s) and I also wanted to build a .20 cal too. USRN, Any news on the wraith working in night mode ? Thermal ? I ended up buying an AGM TM384 for a friend, but because of the snow + vehicle issues, I wasn't able to deliver it last weekend, So I'm testing it while it's still in my possession. I also bought the 160 unit (Under $500 shipped) to do a comparison and ended up sending the 160 back, as it's pretty much useless. For just under $1,300 shipped, the TM384 is a real deal and will bring your predator hunting results to the next level.
  23. Do you want a dog that will hunt too, or just a house dog ? If just a house dog, there's plenty of pound puppies available that need a loving home.
  24. Back in the day, beagle breeders would kill lemon pups. Glad to see some breeders don't practice that anymore. Good Luck hunting.
