  1. Why are you waiting for the death rates? It’s all published public information. We will continue to see an increase in breakthrough infections as 1- community spread increases (ie. new variants, fewer mitigation policies), 2- gradual decay in immunity (booster will eventually be necessary). But don’t throw away the baby with the bath water. The vast majority of people needing hospitalization or dying are unvaccinated. No one is hiding death rates from you. This article will help clarify (and has morality numbers): https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-07-23/vaccinated-breakthrough-covid-19-infections-what-to-know
  2. Some (not yet peer reviewed) reports indicate higher affinity to ACE2 and optimized cleavage sites which facilitate entrance to host cell.
  3. I want to clarify my last comment. There have been some preprint reports suggesting that the infectiousness of breakthrough cases is much higher with the Delta variant. These reports have motivated the CDC to change masking recommendations. It’s important to understand that breakthrough infections remain extremely low.
  4. I’ve been extremely consistent in voicing my opinion on this board so I don’t know you’re talking about. That said, you’d do yourself a favor not to fetishize rigidity above all else.
  5. Another academic scientist who weighed the evidence and got the shot. I’m seeing the suggestion of a trend here. Absolute certainty has never been the standard in medicine and there’s no reason why we should now move the goalposts further back. In contrast, given risk of death/chronic disease, moving them in a tiny bit feels reasonable to me.
  6. I didn’t say there is no risk. I said it’s important to measure the risk in relation to the benefit and in the context of the risks that we continually encounter throughout a day. It’s much easier to understand risk in relative terms.
  7. Because the border must open so that I can go moose hunting! Also this: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/30/us/covid-vaccine-hesitancy-regret.html
  8. I'm always a bit concerned when I read posts referring to friends/relatives who are in the healthcare world and yet choose not to get the Covid vaccine. While it continues to be a personal choice, I fear that such statements will give readers a sense that the vaccine has considerable risks. This is absolutely not true. It's with this in mind that I'll share some of my personal anecdotal examples of healthcare professionals who were eager to take the vaccine. My better half is also a pharmacist. She vetted the shot appropriately and found no cause for concern. My sister and her husband are both specialized MDs. Both received the vaccine as soon as it was offered. My sister was pregnant at the time and did the appropriate research to conclude that the benefits far outweigh any miniscule risk. Her baby girl was born healthy and continues to thrive. I received my PhD in a medical campus. Many of my good friends and dozens of colleagues have PhDs, MDs, or MD/PhD. None had any pause when deciding to take the vaccine. I'm not claiming that any in my small subset is smarter than your brother (or than you). But I would argue that as academic physician/scientists, they're exceptionally well-positioned to make an objective assessment on the risks and benefits of the vaccine. I hope this helps some who continue to feel trepidation about receiving the vaccine. The rest is a subjective decision that we each have to make.
  9. Here's a nice little perspective: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01557-z
  10. Given my health it would be more of a risk to inject an unknown substance into my body than my risks from the virus. -I think Jerkman's trying to tell us he has abs! Let me guess, you also don't get a yearly flu shot? Your perspective is curious and perhaps much more common than I imagine. The vaccine substance is not unknow. In fact, it's 100% known. Look up that ingredient list. As I said I'm going to get it eventually. I am just not going out of my way to get a shot. If it ends up being convenient at some point in my life then I'll go get it. But I'm not actively searching out a location and time to get it. -I propose a HuntNY archery shoot/vaccination drive for everyone who want's it extra easy. And no you are twisting my words what I am saying is people need to take responsibility for themselves. -not trying to twist words. I'm sincerely trying to understand your take since you come across as sensible and your vaccine concerns aren't based on absurd conspiracy theories. I am doing my part to keep my risks of infection as low as I am comfortable with. The same should be done for those that are immunocompromised. Trust me I've been living this lifestyle well before corona. I've had to live it the past 7 years+ so coronavirus barely changed a thing. In the beginning before there were effective treatments and knowledge about the virus I took even further steps to limit my risks. -It sound tough. I hope your father continues to do well.
  11. As I understand it, there may be a narrow window in some vaccinated folks where they're potentially infectious (immunity levels and viral titer are the contributing factors). This window was miniscule and could be approximated as negligible. Unfortunately, one of the hallmarks of the delta variant is that it manifests with much higher viral titers making it more contagious and virulent. I would imagine that this means that the formerly negligible infectious window of the vaccinated has expanded some. Likely still negligible but again it's factor of immunity levels and viral titer.
  12. But there is some fear in your part about potential, though very unlikely, risks from the vaccine. It’s more a matter of where one directs their fear (precaution is perhaps a much better word than fear for both the vaccinated and unvaccinated instances). So then the answer is that you are being conscientious to avoid exposure and you’re hoping that most immunocompromised folks are vaccinated and protected.
  13. Ok, so a combination of 1: feeling like you’re at a very low risk of chronic effects from infection, in part due to preliminary scientific reports that suggest that you may have enhanced protection due to your blood serotype and 2: distrust of (extensive) scientific reports documenting extremely low risk of these vaccines. This concern would be assuaged by eventual FDA approval. Your reasons certainly beat fears about government microchips or other absurd conspiracy theories. Thanks for being open about why you’re choosing to wait. Any concerns about being a transmission vector to the immunocompromised or ill children?
  14. I’m going up to Quebec. I’ll be taking my bird dog along with me and going after grouse and woodcock (and hare) too. Well that’s the plan anyways. I had this hunt booked for last year but it was delayed due to the pandemic shutdown. Things were looking good with the recent announcement of an Aug reopening of the border. But now that there’s a strike of Canadian border workers and with the new delta variant peak, I hope it doesn’t delay things again. All I can do is assume it will be on and prepare appropriately.
  15. Good point. I already spined down from 340 to 300.
  16. What do you like about the outsert system compared to an insert? Is there an advantage to shifting the weight that far forward? How does it compare to just using a heavier broadhead? For the insert/collar combos that I listed, I’m looking at iron will components. They have additional sizes if I wanted to go extra heavy: https://www.ironwilloutfitters.com/archery-components
  17. You say you will eventually… Curious, what’s the hold up? Did you have the virus and so you figure you’re sufficiently immune? Concerned about safety? Or activation energy just too high to overcome? I don’t think anyone’s forcing you to get the vaccine. Masks? Yeah, we’ll probably all have to wear them again if hospitalizations continue to increase…
  18. I'm putting the finishing touches to my moose bow/arrow set up and I'd appreciate some feedback on weight/FOC. I'm upgrading my bow limbs to shoot up to 70 lbs and my draw length is 29.5 inches. I'm sticking with Easton Axis 5mm Match Grade arrows and I'll be shooting Iron Will Outfitters single bevel broadheads. These arrows are 300 spine at 10.7 GPI and have 18 gr total vane weight and a 9 gr nock. I'm trying to decide on the broadhead, insert, and collar configuration to get an optimal weight and FOC. The easiest arrow build would be to use the arrow with its 16 gr Easton Hit insert and throw on a 125gr broadhead. This would place the arrow at 1- 125 gr broadhead; 16 gr insert; no collar: 486.3 gr; 10.6% FOC With a 150 gr broadhead, the arrow would be: 2- 150 gr broadhead; 16 gr insert; no collar: 511.3 gr; 12.4% FOC Alternatively, I can add a collar or use a heavier insert: 3- 125 gr broadhead; 16 gr insert; 25 gr collar; 511.3 gr; 12.2% FOC 4- 125 gr broadhead; 25 gr insert; no collar: 495.3 gr; 11.3% FOC The question ultimately boils down to where is the best place to stack weight on an arrow? At the tip by sizing up the broadhead, at the insert, or with a collar? I like build #1 best because it's the simplest and that arrow seems like a very good all-purpose, not just a moose specialist.
  19. …get over what? I’ll have you know that my pair is ample, thank you very much But your continual fixation with “pairs” explains a lot about you. Hit your heavy bag a little harder and they’ll finally drop! I’m teasing, they ain’t changing. But that’s ok Bill, you’re more than your balls. Now, how many week till early bear?
  20. Conspiracy Bill! What color does your shirt come in?
  21. Funny, I have 3. Though I never understood why they only come in tie die. Figured Wolc to be more of the paisley type. Now that’s a box I dare not peek in.
  22. Showing that game becomes food is what matters most to me.
