The sportsman stage for me., since I have a new partner (grandson) to share hunting season with

It is hard to reply to this topic. For bow season ,which I went out mostly every day, was a bummer due to the fact that I only saw 4 does and no shots. In the gun season, I harvested an eight pointer on the second day of the gun season. The best time for me was after my harvest was that my grandson joined me for his first deer hunt. I was able to pass on information to him that my father passed to me. Even thought we didn't get a deer, we both had a great time sharing the experience. He said to his mother that next summer he was going to spend more time a poppys house learning the land and getting as much information from his grandfather. Talk about what makes it great to hunt

The weather should be ok on Saturday. Taking my Grandson out for his first time deer hunting. Will just be an observer,no gun. Would like him to see and harvest a nice buck.

Went out yesterday afternoon. About 3:30 caught something moving. Turned out to be a 8 pointer trying to sneak past me. Place shot in bread basket. I guess I am finished till muzzleloader season

I didnt lose a camera but did lose a homemade tree seat that I leave on my property for archery hunting. Went there yesterday to hunt and seat was gone. Ruined my whole day. Last night made a new one. Will put it out later this pm

Many years ago, I was hunting state land near Ithaca,NY. It started to snow and then it really came down. I decided to leave and was walking the road towards my car with an empty weapon, when A DEC officer pulled up behind me in his car and asked for my license. I looked up to towards the sky and said" you got to be kidding. I said I would be glad to show my license if he got out of his car and got snowed on like I was. He complied, showed him my license and he got back in his car and left. Just the only time I had any contact with DEC whiloe hunting -
I have had my life lines attached to both my ladder stands for the past 4 years. I never leave the ground without attaching my harness to the lines since I live and hunt alone. Best investment I ever made. The one thing that I didn't see in the post is access to a knife. If the stand falls and you become tangled in the harness, you have a way to escape.

The thing that comes to mind was the first time I used my Thompson Center 54 cal. rifle. I was on my post when this big 8 pt. came out of the thicket into a clearing about 50 feet away and stopped broadside to me. I pulled the hammer back, squeezed the trigger and the only that went off was the percussion cap. The deer looked and walked off. After it left, I placed a new cap on the rifle and it went off. Every time I use this gun that story makes me think about that.

Size of cat was about the size of a German sheppard, orange color, long tail. Just got off phone to DEC and person stated that they received several calls from that area about cat and a picture.

About 2 weeks agao my daughter, who lives near Indian Point in Westchester, said that her neighbor saw a cougar near the facility. Yesterday she called me and said her husband saw the same big cat nearby the facility. I know that doesn't seem possible but 2 people saw the same thing, same discription. Anyone one else happen to see anything?

I would like to express my opinion on xbows. I am a 72 year old man who has been hunting since I was 14. With age I have had back problems that might stop me from enjoying archery season. Since there is no provision for the use of xbow yet, the past time I have enjoyed is coming to an end. It makes me mad that a small group of limited minded people want to take the sport away from me.. In regard to hunting in jeopordy, that area that I live and hunt on has seen less and less hunters on the state land as time goes on. Just my thoughts and observations.

Nice pictures. Where in 4G is your property? That area is where I live

Smith and Wesson, being true to it's word to replaced my PPK-S, did so today. I have to give their customer service a double thumbs up

Ants- took your advise and sent S&W an email about weapon. Now it is wait and see what they do.

First time I could not get the slide off the weapon for cleaning. This time the same thing again also I am unable to move the safety switch either way, a bullet feed jam from the magazine, unable to eject a round from the chamber when the mag was removed fron the weapon. This make me feel not to secure with this weapon.

II just sent my PPK-S pistol back to S&W for repairs for with the second time. Was wondering if anyone is having problems with this weapon

Hunted on Sunday ,saw 2 doe and 1 small buck but out of range. Hunted yesterday afternoon, saw nothing. Well at least I harvested a large doe this season with the bow. Saw a lot more deer this year then last year.

I was only stopped once in 50 years. I was hunting with a cousin near Ithaca and we left woods because of a heavy snow storm. Truck was about a 1/2 mile away and we were walking the road with unloaded guns toward it. Heard a vehicle coming behind us and it was dec. He asked us for our licenses. I asked that he get out of his vehicle. If I had to get snowed on, so should he. He did get out, checked us out and then left. Never forgot that

Was infrormed this past weekend that my neighbor saw a set of bear tracks near his pond. I know this is a silly question, since I hunt the same area for deer and never seen or shot at a bear, was just wondering if bear meat is good to eat. I will not shot anything just for the sake of harvesting the animal. Thanks for any advise.
