  1. On my property the does know us, I think the bucks get to know us. Walking I get within 40 yards of does before they run. They even walk onto the shooting range while we're shooting. Im in the woods almost every day with the dogs tractor quads I usually cut most of my firewood in the fall. I've scared bucks out of their beds on the tractor. The bigger bucks are on camera in daylight when I haven't been there in a week or so. With that knowledge Being my first year going for deer(bucks) I'm going to limit my use but am torn on leaving it completely quiet or not.
  2. Pits are my favorite next to pure muts, your description fits the breed well. I have one "pure bred" rescue brindle pit and a mix. And two other mix's. The purebred was beaten shot and had his teeth ground down to nubs for bait dog fighting. "Duke the couch dog" he's by far the best with babies. Tucker is a missle never looks or starts a problem (hes a sweet momma's boy) but he would end it if his family was in trouble.
  3. I turned a corner in a trail this spring and my grouse dog lunged at a hen(she flew up) with what seemed to be 20 or so chicks. I confirmed them on camera a few days ago, at least 8 still with mom hen.
  4. I've been tractor perusing myself. Kubotas resale and financing is what makes them so popular. I'm after them for a commercial compact tlb. In amsterico H&m had some used stuff, there is a power sports place further down the road with LS tractors. Wich might be up your alley. There is salem farm supply in claverack they had a good inventory, I stopped to look at an m59 it was rough and priced high so I don't know how other items are priced. I've called emerichs several times with no returned calls and whenever I've stopped on one of their lots they have one salesman who's always with someone. It seems they don't want to sell me a tractor. I'm going to go try Sharon springs garage next. Ive beaten the crap out of my quad, pull anywhere 5-15 cords a year out of the woods. Its not work that hurts, it's submerging it in mud and water that wears things, bearing axles etc.
  5. The Magpul stock is a great option. I'm excited to see they are introducing them for Savage.
  6. That hydraulic pressure changes cartridge to cartridge consistentcy (size)as well even if it doesn't dent the shoulder. Not saying don't use lube just something to think about. Lube also changes final cartridge consistentcy when firing if left on the cartridge. Same thing happens in the chamber when fired as sizing. I use lanolin, on my thumb and index, a tiny tiny bit goes a long way on clean cases. Its the best and cheapest I've tried. I've even aresoled it. If money wasn't a factor(price per round) id use ONE SHOT. I don't lube the inside as it again effects accuracy and sizing isn't effected.
  7. Oh well that's people for ya. Demographics are changing. Everyone I knew as a kid moved outta dodge. We hooked up with an excellent Dec officer, he's just outside of the area but always makes time as soon as he can. He knows when we call it's not hanky panky and he has a good chance of writing a ticket. Between patrolling and telling everyone (neighbors) stories of prosecution alot has stopped. I hate being a dick and having a reputation of stay the hell off my lawn but that's what it's come to. Never minded neighbors passing through, but people can't even bother asking anymore. I've seen other local landowners put on FB that" poachers caught Dec is patrolling" I actually have to put up more posted signs this weekend.
  8. The area has changed a ton in the past 30ish years. I miss being able to tell people where I'm from and they don't know where it is. I grew up in Ballston half naked and barefoot in the woods...neighbor chootin squirrels with a shotgun in the front yard....now you don't even see kids outside anymore. One of the few good things from the Chinese virus is working from home, thinking of moving. That's the other reason I decided to hunt deer this year. For years I've stopped trespassing poachers, from deer to out of season grouse to trapping beaver and cutting firewood. I've even been down range when neighbors decide to start target shooting..just walking on my own land. Figure everyone else has used it as theirs I might as well in case we're not here next year.
  9. Gun as of now, a bow is on the list but I'm inexperienced with modern compounds. I feel as though I would need to setup/practice yesterday to be to be confident. I'll be hunting my own land. I live in the burnt hills-Ballston- Charlton area. I might be niave but I'm targeting bucks only. I see the same stupid does all the time so it's like I know them, takes the sporting feel away from it.
  10. Beecrofts is funny, they have the most random stuff. They had a gempro sitting on the shelf. The scales have been discontinued for a number of years. Then pre safe act they had a camo sr25 Wich I also haddent seen on a self. I used to go to Frank's alot. I order in bulk for reloading mostly now. The Mrs enjoys shopping trips there so we still visit just not every other week like we used to.
  11. Thanks for the welcomes I'll take all the luck I can get!
