  1. If there's one thing I've discovered over the past few years, it's that I'm not sure where I fall politically anymore, and I really have stopped caring about anyone else's politics. However, I do care about how people treat others.
  2. First of all Al, I have no issue with your comment, and I'm not arguing it. You have every right to voice your opinion, and I'm not invested in this argument at all. @Northcountryman, proof?
  3. I don't think we're too far apart here NCM, I don't respond well to those types of arguments either. I think what Mike is suggesting is that as long as the attack is against an opponent and not an ally, we let them slide. So, for instance, if hypothetically another member on here jumped in and called Cheney an "asshat", would you have objected? Honestly, I don't object either way, because I don't have a dog in this fight. The point I'm arguing here is that the both sides as bad as the other, and it's toxic to any productive dialog. The right is just as likely to jump into a debate with nastiness and vulgarity as the left is. Again, I'm not sure how to prove that point whenever honest examples won't even hold up to the scrutiny, but being on the outside looking it, I'm telling you, people can be nasty and low regardless of political leanings, and neither side has a monopoly on that. I sometimes cruise through the talk radio stations on Sirius XM, and one channel will have callers saying Trump is an idiot who should be locked up, and another will have callers demanding that "Killery" be hung. Partisan politics today is toxic in general, and I cannot allow myself associate with either side because of it. The main point is that I respond better to civil discourse, and am turned off by the opposite, which is unfortunately where we are at in this country for the most part, right and left alike.
  4. I did before commenting, and unless I missed something, I haven't seen anyone insult another member on this thread, which I think is what you're looking for now. I read the "asshat" comment in regards to Rand Paul, but as far as I know, he's not commenting, and it's no more insulting than calling the Vice President a "Ho" which I've seen several times on this board, amongst names like "libtard", "stupid liberals", "dumb Biden supporters", just to name a few. Listen, I'm not playing referee here, this is a conservative learning forum, and I'm sure there's going to be more insults from the right towards the left here, and if I were to surf a left leaning forum, I'd see just the opposite. However, insisting that conservatives are more principled in their conduct than liberals just isn't true, they both can be equally as nasty. If you ask me to prove it to you, just let me know what kind of proof would suffice. I shared a thread that is a great example of conservative nastiness, and you allowed that doesn't count. What kind of proof would you like? I'm not trying to score points here, we've always been civil with each other. I feel like I'm being objective here, and the objective point of view is that today's political climate is vulgar, mean and extreme, and the extremes of both sides participate in it.
  5. I guess I misunderstood, you were asking for examples of those on the right name-calling those on the left, and the Political Humor section has plenty of that. I didn't realize you were looking for folks who were doing direct name calling, not those who do it out of generality Still, I don't see anywhere on this thread that anyone has hurled an insult at another member. BTW, you know as well as I do I nor anyone else can prove you wrong, do I dredge up every political insult that's been hurled at another person and then do a tally? In reality, I have no interest in proving you wrong, at all. But it's like me saying "I think there are 847,3412 ants in my backyard, but if I'm wrong, show me". Just because you can't be proven wrong doesn't mean that you're right. Regardless, this is a rather silly argument in the grand scheme of things...still, I'm the one commenting
  6. Nothing but conservative class in this thread NCM I'm not knocking anyone's fun, but to suggest that the right has higher standards than the left or vice versa is just ludicrous, people can be really nasty regardless of their political leanings...and again, it's their own prerogative, I'm not anyone's judge.
  7. I just don't get the Republican messaging. It's a lot of "we're gonna stop this" and "we aren't going to let 'this' happen". I see the signs that say "Hate High Gas Prices? Vote Republican", but the issue is, they don't say what their going to do. How will they lower gas prices? I cannot find a reasonable plan on that offered up by any candidate, other than more drilling, and even then, they don't talk about how they are actually going to achieve more production. I'm so jaded with both parties, it's sickening. Politics today is reminiscent of Professional Wrestling, a lot of grabbing the mic and smack talking, a little bit of fighting, and at the end of the day, you realize it was all just a performance.
  8. I saw a few of those in my area, pretty tasteless if you ask me, but to each their own. I saw and heard a lot of nasty anti-Trump stuff as well. Unfortunately the loudest extremes in todays political climate don't have a lot of decorum.
  9. I don't have a problem with any of it, you can call whoever you want, whatever you want, makes me no difference.
  10. Absolutely, as I said, not trying to pick on you, just wanting to see what you meant by that. When someone calls a guy a "stud", I always think of them talking about their looks or attractiveness, and I assumed that's not what you were getting at.
  11. NCM, since we're on the topic of being objective, you call a lot of other men "studs". I'm just curious what your definition is for that. Not trying to pick on you, but I'm just not used to hearing anyone throw that term around so much as a superlative.
  12. I’ve got plenty of shorts, and know where to get more. They’re not as cheap as they used to be, about 13 cents a round now, but I don’t go through a lot of them. 20 gauge shells are starting to show up little by little as well, so I’m not afraid to shoot them. Im sure the pellet gun will do just fine within range, there’s plenty of folks out the killing squirrels with them.
  13. In my 550, I use CCI .22 shorts, mainly because they are so quiet. Not as quiet as a pellet gun, but not far off I’ll probably use my 20 gauge a lot more this year though, as I’d really like to get several squirrels, and in the woods I hunt, a lot of my shots will be on the ground or on low on a trunk.
  14. I got a chance to sight in my old Remington 550 this evening. I found an old Bushnell scope a few weeks back and it sighted in just fine. I’m excited to hit the woods next month.
  15. It’s the time of year that I start thinking about what my goals are for this years hunting season. The past year has blessed me with a new baby girl, a new energy for youth development work after Covid, and just an overall desire to enjoy all of the great things that I have available in my life. So, here’s what I hope to accomplish in the 2022 hunting season… 1. I am taking one of my 4-H members hunting for the first time next month. He just got his first hunting license, and we are meeting next week to settle on a gun and learn some outdoor skills. This year I’m going to take him squirrel hunting, and I am confident I can get him on a few bushy tails next month. Then, I hope to have him come along with me on a few deer hunts in November. I’ll have him help me with cameras, scouting and placing a ground blind. 2. I was gifted an old Winchester Model 12 dating to 1913 (4 digit serial). I got it cleaned up as well as I can, and finally found some 2 1/2” 20 gauge shells online, which arrived earlier this week. I would like to kill a mess of squirrels with this old gun this season. 3. I would like to expand my squirrel cooking experience. Growing up, we only fried the young squirrels and used the old ones for chowder. I’ve been looking at other recipes, and would like to expand my menu. 4. I would like to finally kill a deer with a muzzleloader. I’ve bagged deer with every other legal tool, but have never taken one with a muzzleloader. My T/C New Englander is going to get a good amount of time in the field this November. 5. Take a deer with a bow and a gun. It’s been years since I’ve had a multi-deer year (my highest was 11 in one season back in Illinois). We’ve been tearing through last years harvest, and I’d like to have 2 in the freezer this year. I’m going to do my best to take one during archery, and one during gun season. I think that covers what I would really like to accomplish this year. Nothing too lofty, and regardless of what happens, I’ll just be happy to get some time in the outdoors and share that experience with the next generation. What are you goals for 2022?
  16. This morning I was in Bennington, VT, and found a shotgun that I’m considering trading for at a gun shop. Does anyone know if I have to have the handgun shipped FFL to the other FFL to do a trade out of state?

  18. Great line-up of guns Al. That Savage 99 is such a cool design for a lever gun. Does that top one have a peep sight?
  19. I despise Trump, and will not vote for him regardless. If worse comes to worst, I will just not vote for president. However, I would strongly consider voting for a republican who is not morally bankrupt like Trump is. I’m not trying to make this about me, but just the point that there are a lot of folks out there who feel the way I do, and we are the voters that the republicans need to be trying to get on board. It won’t take much to swing me to the right, but Trump will do the opposite.
  20. I shot my first 3-D shoot in probably 10 years this morning. I went out with some of my 4-H kids and families and had a blast. Shot a 268 hunter class, I’m not a bit disappointed with that. I’m even more happy that between all in the group, only 1 arrow was lost (and it was one of the kid’s dad’s).
