  1. I’m more of a wheat penny/Timex guy myself
  2. I’ve always had the most success on natural or man made barriers; creeks, old fences, etc. Travel corridors are my go to, I’ve never had much luck with hunting over food sources or bedding areas.
  3. Based on the information here, this is my suggestion. Two elevation bottlenecks converging. Now, knowing food sources, bedding, etc could really impact a lot of this. It’s really hard to scout just using a map. Boots on the ground is much better.
  4. I’m enjoying my .45’s a lot. Granted they are sidelocks (flint and percussion) they shoot great, and eat less powder than my .50. They should both be fine on deer within my range of shooting. I haven’t had any issue finding supplies either.
  5. I try to be courteous and non-confrontational, I never know what anyone has going on. However, the one thing I cannot stand are those who ride my tail and flash their lights at me. If I'm passing on the interstate, and have a car behind me that's moving quicker, I'll speed up and get around the other vehicle so the car behind me can continue on. However, every once in a while there's someone who is so important that they want me to know how much I cam inconveniencing them. At that point, I'll cut back to only going a mile or two an hour faster than who I'm passing and take my time, no need to be unsafe.
  6. I’m so glad I don’t have to travel the Northway to work anymore. People drive like they have a death with and the flip you off for not doing the same.
  7. In Otto’s defense, it took me a moment to connect yours and biggamefish’s posts.
  8. Whew, good news. Good luck with the recovery @chef, you deserve a win. Hopefully we’ll see pics tomorrow.
  9. Not to be a downer, but I hope that arrow looks better in person than the photo. Looks like a lot of fat, makes me think brisket. Did you see where it hit? Any hair on the arrow?
  10. For a self professed sober guy, he was pretty well lit at that party. She was only there for about a year before hopping clinics. She didn’t care for the owner. From what I’ve heard, it’s changed ownership now and is better, but that’s just hearsay. They used to have a lot of change over with vets previously, my wife included.
  11. We lived your way when we first moved to NY. We lived in Stuyvesant, and my wife worked at the Chatham Vet clinic. It’s beautiful down there, I really enjoyed it. We actually lived in the gate house of Sydney Poitier’s old estate. One of my first experiences in NYS was being heckled by David Cassidy while playing bags at a party my wife’s old boss was hosting.
  12. We’re looking for a .50. All of our other program guns are .50 caliber, so keeping everything the same makes life easier and also prevents a kid from accidentally dropping a .50 caliber ball down a .54 caliber gun. We mainly shoot PRB.
  13. I am so sticking jealous. Camp looks fantastic and incredibly peaceful. Thanks for sharing this.
  14. I don’t know about those specifically, but Franks in Amsterdam has had a good stock of BP substitute recently.
  15. If you're looking to sell, send me a pm. That's a nice rifle, so it may be outside of our budget, but I can ask my committee.
  16. There's a 54 at the auction this month, but it just doesn't make sense to have an odd caliber for a program gun. Having all 50's keeps set-up simple. Thanks for the offer!
  17. Just thought I'd throw out another net here. Our 4-H program has had an influx of left eye shooters this year, and we are looking to add another left handed percussion gun to our lot. We don't need anything fancy, just safe and reliable and affordable. All of our other guns are 50's, so we'd like to stay with that for simplicity sake. If you have one or know of someone who does that would like to part with it, please let me know. I'm willing to drive within a reasonable distance of Ballston Spa, or pay shipping. Thanks!
  18. Sounds like a good book character to me. Could use a bit more development, but with time and effort I’m sure he can be fleshed out into a solid and believable character.
  19. Haha, believe it or not, I spent about 3 hours on Sunday just getting the garage to where it is currently at. It became nothing but overflow storage for about 3-4 months I at least have it to where my wife can park her car in it now. I've got a little more work to do on the bench. First is adding some rigidity while maintaining the ability to take it apart into 2 pieces. Then deciding if I want to make it look any better or keep the cobbled together look that it's currently at. I enjoy seeing how people re-use things, so I'm tempted to leave it as is.
  20. A few weeks ago I had a hair-brained idea to turn an old guitar stand into and adjustable and portable muzzleloader loading bench. Tonight, just like Johnny Cash, I tried to put it all together. I really didn’t like how unstable the legs were, so I knew I had to find a better base. Looking around my garage, I found an old creeper that I purchased at a garage sale a few years ago for a couple of bucks. The casters were shot, so I pulled them, and added some rubber feet. The head rest on the creeper made the perfect buffer for the butt of my guns. Next, I needed to create a crossbar to attach my cleaning bench to. I had a yoke with rotten ends that I replaced on my canoe, so I chopped the ends off, bolted them to the neck stands. I pulled the ends off of the cleaning rack, and screwed the forearm rest to the bottom of the cleaning rack to act as a rest for my standing rifle. I had to get creative, and it was a lot of fun. I still want to add a couple of large dowels to attach the yoke crossbar to the base and add a little more structure. The dowels will remove the adjustable feature, but I think it will be worth it to make it more ridged. Overall, I’m pretty happy with it.
