Obama's record on gun control
Sogaard replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I'm not going to debate the stupidity on a fear mongering propaganda site. I'll make it simple, what stricter federal gun bills have been signed into law in the past four years? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? -
Obama's record on gun control

Just to restate my opinion, I do not agree with banning semi-automatic weapons. I look forward to getting a nice semi-auto .223 for predator hunting someday (had my eye on a Rem R15 VTR for a while). Down the road I'm also planning on getting a Benelli semi. My position on the high capacity magazines is based on the fact that, yes, you can swap them fairly quickly (I do have some experience with them), but you still have to take the time to do it. Sometimes those seconds make the difference. Personally, I'd like to make it as difficult as possible for someone to do what happened in Colorado, without banning the weapons from law abiding citizens. -

I really do understand your concern, but I just don't see it happening. It would be just too unpopular. They can tax the crap out of cigs because they are so unpopular to the vast majority of non-smokers. Hitting guns and ammo that hard would cause way more harm than good from a political stand point. Guns are the least popular in states that are already guaranteed Democrat state. Most of the current swing states have fairly loose gun laws. It would be political suicide to go hard after guns and ammo like some people here are suggesting. -

My personal views on the subject are this (and yes, they will be very unpopular) : I do believe fully automatic weapons should be banned. I agree with current NYS high capacity clip limits I do not see semi auto hunting rifles being banned federally. I'm a hunter. I'm not a gun nut. Give me my bolt action and a few hundred acres to roam and I'm a very happy man. I'm not saying anyone should agree with me, or even that I'm right, its just how I feel about the subject. -

And what % of the total tax rate of NYS is Federal compared to State? And you quoted the wrong section of my post (EDIT: nm, you fixed it). Can't really expect the Feds not take a little taste. Lol -

Complete and utter crap. I'm really looking forward to four years of laughing at you all for your paranoia if Obama wins. And if Romney wins, hey, there are two main ways to redistribute wealth in nation. Taxes are the most common form. Marie Antoinette can tell you about the other way. -

Doc, I'm not saying this couldn't happen, but your own example is indeed a perfect case. These taxes (if it were to happen) would be levied at a state level, not a federal. -

Not to go all off topic when we are talking about all our guns being taken away, but the short answer is: Stupid people. -

That sounds a lot like common sense, better be careful, they'll start flaming you for talk like that! -
Yeah, I'm planning to go shed hunting for those this winter, they'd make a great rattle.
-
I would guess they mostly eat acorns and regular vegetation. There are tons of oaks in those parks on the south - south west of the island.
-
I always get nervous about posting picts of really nice bucks on the island. Too easy to guess where they are, and too many people who wouldn't think twice about poaching them. From that video, I know exactly where it was taken. I just put up a pict of an 8 with a huge body from SI here -> http://huntingny.com...5-big-ole-buck/

Not the greatest rack, but this old guy has a massive body!

Repeal the 2nd Amendment. Seriously? You are just too funny... Do you even know what it takes to repeal an Amendment? Or make an new one? I'll give you the short version, 38 states would have to agree to it. Thirty Eight. Good luck on getting 38 states to agree on anything these days. Obama hasn't done anything in the way of new gun control legislature. Its not even a talking point on his campaign. I have to tell you, if the President gets reelected, I'm still planning on starting my "OMG HAZ HE TAKEN ALLZ UR GUNZ YET?!?!" thread, with weekly updates asking people to share their stories of oppression. I'm still betting there won't be much action on the post. Repeal the 2nd Amendment, its still making me chuckle, I don't know how I missed this for so long. -
No, you're wrong on this point. Staten Island is a unique situation. Although I'm sure developments have impacted a little, the deer population has truly exploded in the past 10-15 years. The estimates back then were that there were less than 50 deer on the whole island (DEC claims that the few that were here swam over from New Jersey). They have since bred uncontrolled and spread all over the west and south of the island. I see groups of 12-15 moving around when 10 years ago, if you saw 3 together, it was amazing. Nothing is around to keep the population in check besides the occasional car accident and its said a herd can double in population every 3 years if nothing is around to control it. If I had to guess, they will eventually have to bring in "professional" archers or sharpshooters to cut down the population, which is such a shame. I wish they would open a very strict lottery and let hunters take care of it, but I doubt it will ever happen in NYC.

I'll type this extra slow so you have a better chance of understanding*: You stated that the rate was decreasing because of amnesty**. The article, if you had bothered to glance at it, says more Mexicans are choosing to leave the US than there are Mexicans choosing to sneak over***. If you're confused at all by the words you are reading, please see below. *this is sarcasm **this is completely stupid ***facts, you will probably want to disregard them -

You obviously didn't even glance at the link, because your comment just makes you sound foolish. I didn't say the amount of illegal Mexican immigrants is decreasing, which is what your ignorant statement implies. I said, more Mexican natives are leaving the US and going back to Mexico of their own free will. Might want to try reading first so you can formulate a response that doesn't make you look like someone who had no idea what they are talking about. Hmmm...wait...shoe fits... Why don't you go back to defending the billionaire who can't even come up with his own unique scare tactics to intimidate his employees. Seems better suited for you. -

Where all the good guys shot red lasers, the bad guys shot blue lasers, helicopter pilots bailed out with parachutes, and no one ever, ever died. -

Here's one of those silly facts that gets in the way: Mexican illegal immigration rates have been decreasing since 2007 and there are now more Mexicans crossing back into Mexico from the US than there are Mexicans sneaking north. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-04-23/mexican-immigration-united-states/54487564/1 I know, "rediculious"! No, I don't get it. Probably because we are talking about people already in this country, so...they are here. EDIT: Damn, Virgil beat me to the obvious. -

I'd rather see the flow of illegal immigrants stop too. I'm all for closed borders. No other country in the world has the crazy policies we do about illegal immigration. Then again, I also don't think foreigners (legal or illegal) should NOT (edit, oops) be able to work here and send most of their paychecks back to their country of origin and out of our economy. This country is weighed down by three issues, and I've said this before in at least one other post. No matter what your political affiliation, the only three things that matter in the federal budget are Defense, Medicaid/care and Social Security. All three need reform. And the person who allowed the tax code to be written so that illegal immigrants could claim the Child Tax Credit for children not even living in this country should be fired. As in, shot from a cannon. -

Wait a second here: You don't want illegal immigrants here, but you don't want to force them to go home. And you're calling other people dumb. OK, I'm going back WNYs post, its not nearly as "rediculous".
