Governor requesting Compromise on Crossbow Bill
Sogaard replied to SteveMcD's topic in General Hunting
I doubt it would impact the price of crossbows. Most suppliers are nation-wide chains, so individual state laws won't impact sales enough to raise prices. I could see it happening at a local shop though, but even then, with so many internet options, they wouldn't really be able to raise the price too much without the risk of losing customer orders. -
I was surprised by Paul Ryan's speech
Sogaard replied to Deerthug's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Iraq and 9-11 have absolutely nothing to do with one another. Damn, man, read something that isn't Fox News every now and then and stop being a sheep. Bush dropped 100,000 troops in the wrong country. If we had moved on Afghanistan like he should have to begin with, OBL would have had a hell of a lot harder time slipping into Pakistan and disappearing for 10 years. At least until we were finally able to track him down and kill him, under my "boyfriend's" watch. Still winning fans with homophobia, I see. @Doc, I'm assuming you aren't counting domestic terrorism? @Ants, you can yell all you want, but you never say anything of substance. You should get a job at Fox. -
I grew up in Bay Ridge, but moved to SI when I bought my house about 9 years ago. I have deer in my backyard too, but I'm on the south shore, so I need to take a trip up to Seaview Ave to see the turkey. I was just visiting the hospital yesterday. I saw a good amount of chicks feeding on the grounds. Their population continues to explode up there. I also saw a really nice double bearded Tom than made me want to fetch my bow.

Sogaard replied to Deerthug's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
You can't blame Congress when you feel like taking the blame off a Republican President, and leave Congress completely unaccountable when you want a Democratic President to take the blame for everything. Well, you can, but it makes you a hypocrite. And a Republican. -

So, he wasn't president when those extremely expensive wars were started? -
This ought to scare the crap out of you
Sogaard replied to nyantler's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Haha, thanks. I was offline for a couple of days, but I'm glad someone was around to point out the inconvenient truth. People on both sides of the aisle need to stop listening to bias sound bites and do a little of their own research before deciding on an issue. Then again, its easier to just hate. -

Sogaard replied to Deerthug's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Why did it have to be raised? That's an easy one: George W. Bush started two very expensive wars. Concise enough for you? -
I hunt there sometimes. Last year I saw plenty of does, but ZERO bucks, which I found a little disappointing since 3H is an AR WMU. I thought I would at least see some spikes, but alas....

Yes. They just can't touch/carry/hold the firearm.

Forbes article at the time, educate yourself: http://www.forbes.co...ight-look-like/ Try to get through the whole article, even the parts you don't like because it goes against the Republican rhetoric. -

The part that I don't understand is why people think a few million to Planned Parenthood, is anything other than a blip on the budget. If you're going to be critical, be critical about the (only) three things that really matter: Defense, Medicaid and Social Security. That goes for Republicans and Democrats. And as for that completely ignorant statement about the debt ceiling, and the inference it should not have been raised...wow, just do me a favor and look up what the "debt ceiling" is and what the consequences of not raising it would have been. Try to find a non-political, economist source. That was not a Republican or Democrat issue. If we had defaulted, it would have been a catastrophe like we have not seen in (most) of our lifetimes. -
Looking For Deer Processing in Southern New York
Sogaard replied to WestchesterBowman's topic in Deer Processing
I live in SI, so I have a little more room than you. Last year I shot a doe on the last day of MZ and brought her home to butcher myself. My neighbors were *not* happy with me hanging her up and skinning her in the back yard. Heheh. The smell of her did bring in a beautiful 8 pointer to check things out. He stayed at about 20 yards watching me work for about 10 minutes before he decided he wasn't going to get any, and walked off. I wish I didn't have to drive 2-3 hours to hunt, the nicest bucks I've ever seen first hand have been a couple hundred feet from my house. -
I'd like to know how much the dues are also. Thanks in advance.

This is the article that supports that graph...just a FYI because anyone can draw a bar graph and say its true. http://articles.marketwatch.com/2012-05-22/commentary/31802270_1_spending-federal-budget-drunken-sailor -

Yes, that's what we want, poor people, who can't afford birth control, having unplanned children. I'm sure that will be cheaper in the long run. Wait...whaa....? -

Quote me where someone is defending NAMBLA, I can't find it. I think what you fail to realize is that just because a group is made up of homosexuals, it doesn't make it a "homosexual group". Kind of like how the KKK is a group made up of Caucasian people, but.....(see where I'm going with this). -

I was hoping some people would make an exception because Bill is saying how disappointed he is in Obama too, but I figured I'd get the above reaction more often than not. And Maher is to Democrats what Rush is to Republicans, except with more humor and less infidelity. -

Sogaard replied to Deerthug's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
There was no mistake or misunderstanding. I highly doubt he even wrote the speech himself. All politicians lie, Ryan's were just extra-blatant this time and he was called out on them. Not that it really matters anyway. He told his base constituents what they wanted to hear. Most people don't actually want to hear the facts, they just want to cheer about something. These are the times we live, unfortunately. EDIT: I really shouldn't have said "Most people...blah blah", as last time I checked, I don't know most people. I'm just depressed at the current state of the government. Its been a sad couple of decades for anyone who is fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Having to choose the lesser of two evils every election for most of my life is tiresome. I actually had a lot of hope in Obama. Unfortunately, I am equally disappointed in his first term. I don't really understand why Republicans can hate the guy so much, since he really hasn't changed much at all. I'm going to put myself in the line of fire and link a (albeit) crappy YouTube clip of Bill Maher. Try to not click it off after he takes a couple pot shots at Ted, he actually says some interesting stuff about how liberals feel about Obama's first term. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwq6_TyHMDg His last line sums up my stance on Presidential elections: [Democrats:] Elect us, we're lame, but the other guys are nuts. -
Talk About Butt Covering
Sogaard replied to Early's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Well, I'm no fan of the Catholic church, but fair is fair. You can not judge the whole institution by one man. The New York Archdiocese released this statement: The sexual abuse of a minor is a crime, and whoever commits that crime deserves to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The harm that was done by these remarks was compounded by the assertion that the victim is responsible for the abuse, or somehow caused the abuse to occur. This is not only terribly wrong, it is also extremely painful for the victims. The National Catholic Register who ran the story originally, removed it and replace it with: Child sexual abuse is never excusable. The editors of the National Catholic Register apologize for publishing without clarification or challenge Father Benedict Groeschel's comments that seem to suggest that the child is somehow responsible for abuse. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our publication of that comment was an editorial mistake, for which we sincerely apologize. Given Father Benedict's stellar history over many years, we released his interview without our usual screening and oversight. We have removed the story. We have sought clarification from Father Benedict. The man himself also retracted his statement, for what its worth: I apologize for my comments. I did not intend to blame the victim. A priest (or anyone else) who abuses a minor is always wrong and is always responsible. My mind and my way of expressing myself are not as clear as they used to be. I have spent my life trying to help others the best that I could. I deeply regret any harm I have caused to anyone. -

I'm actually not a big Obama fan myself, but I'm scared as hell of type of Justices that Romney would appoint if given the chance. -

Yes, he must be a fraud. There is no such thing as a liberal hunter. He trolls conservative-heavy websites in positively blue states looking for more converts. Because New York needs more Democrats. In fact, I can prove it. Just look at his post history, its all political stuff! Oh wait, its not. And I applaud your use of exclamation points and question marks. They really add to the validity of your post. -
