  1. Dont forget the kids too, school is starting in a few weeks. I took my daughter to Water Safari and son to the Dragon Ball movie last weekend for some quality dad time. Hopefully when they are old enough they will want to hunt but I wont force them, just encourage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. This is an old post but is going to be relevant pretty soon and I wanted to throw out a tip I heard on a podcast from a long time successful ADX deer hunter, Todd Mead. Focus on water sources. That makes sense for two reasons. 1. Deer have to drink water everyday, especially in the heat of the early season. 2. The food sources are spread throughout such a wide area that picking one set of trees to sit on is like picking a needle out of a haystack. Early ML is going to be my first time ADX hunting. I am super excited to go up, I know the camp experience and scenery is going to make the time worth and a deer will just be a cherry on top. With that being said, I am going up there focused and determined to put my best foot forward to make a harvest. My initial game plan is to focus on lowland areas near water sources, try and locate access points deer use for water. Hopefully find some deer activity amongst the bio diversity that swamp/pond/river edges create and see what happens. Being only a 45 min drive from the park, you can bet I also will be keeping a close eye on the weather forecast come Nov/Dec and will head back up and try my luck at the legendary tracking tactic. I apologize for what might seem like spamming this forum lately.. I am just learning so much from you guys and super pumped for this season! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Has this trend of fall turkeys being overharvested continued to present day? What do you recommend as a policy to address this issue? Turn off fall turkey hunting for a few years? I love spring gobbler and hope the DEC can ensure it remains a viable option in our state for years to come.
  4. That is a good method for the majority of my hunts but I plan on dipping my toes in the big woods of the ADX once it starts snowing.. if it goes as planned and I get on a track, wanna have the means to get back out if I go in deep
  5. Dont knock the 2 man... come those late november mornings you may want your buddy for some body heat
  6. My buddy and I were talking about how convenient it would be just carry a revolver into the woods over a rifle. Now at $1600 not including optics this is quite the luxury item but seems like a cool way to harvest a deer. Does anyone have stories about taking down a dear with a handgun?
  7. Alrighty off the bat I am a stupid millennial, never did boy scouts and figure I need to develop a few basic navigation skills that don't depend on my phone before I decide to take a nice long walk in the ADK on one of those storied tracking hunts. So correct me if I am wrong... the basic idea of using a compass to get unlost is to have a basic mental image of the area I am with major landmarks (roads, rivers) then I just need to figure out which way is north, point in the general direction of one of those major landmarks and I should be on the right path. Example.. I know a road runs the entire southern boundary of the area I am hunting... if I get lost, just figure out what way is south and start walking till I hit the road.
  8. Doesnt hurt as long as you dont throw caution to the wind.. pun intended Plus this may just be speculation but I think if you take wind into consideration, it leads to you thinking more critically about your setup and leads to you considering other factors thus leading to you being in a better spot than you would if you just went the wash with scent free soap route
  9. do you guys have the big one or the junior size?
  10. That looks delicious and I went ahead and ordered one. I wanna cook for everyone on my muzzleloader camping trip in October and it looked like a pretty convenient and effective method, might just go ahead and steal your recipe above lol.
  11. Anyone use a Cancooker... do you recommend them?
  12. 1. Appropriate Weapon 2. Plan (Where you going, how you getting there, how you gonna hunt to harvest the game, how you getting that animal out) 3. Appropriate clothing based on conditions 4. Hunting License
  13. 1. Have fun and appreciate the opportunities. 2. Help get my buddy his first deer. 3. Shoot a deer with a bow. 4. Shoot a deer in PA and NY.
  14. I live upstate near Oneida Lake not too close to the coast. I do have a haddock trip planned for next month with some friends off the coast of Mass. I got tore up pretty bad on here a few weeks ago when inquired about eating too much venison... figured I'd get some fish to counter balance lol not to divert this forum discussion too much but what do you fish for... stripers?
  15. Man I spent a few months last year in FL for work, discovered and fell in love with surf fishing.. love seeing that rod bend! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I just peed on the scrape and a little on my hands and rubbed the leaves.. worked like a charm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Fresh out the box do you put them through the entire sharpening process they show on the Stay Sharp or just a touch up? I just ordered the Stay Sharp for my Stinger Buzzcuts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. 100%… I am trying to be methodical and focus on the mechanics now so those good habits become 2nd nature… plus I know my bow is good, my bow guy is a guru.. the inaccuracy is on me but that will improve. I am gonna shoot 15 shots from 20 and 6 from 30 each session and keep track of what % I get into the vitals. My goal is to be 100% by opening day. Here is my first 3 from 30… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. 4th session ever… this is 20yds… gonna shoot 3-5x week with the goal of getting these closer… not gonna shoot a deer outside 20 this year… just a hard rule I am setting on myself being my 1st year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I work a panama schedule so I can take 2 days off and it means a week off. Ive strategically submitted leave in a way that I only work 17 days from Oct 1-Nov 30. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Update: Replaced camera batteries today and decided to throw caution to the wind and try and find/walk as many of the deer paths as I could find. Below is a birds eye view along with as an area of interest I found, a legit buck bed. Its ~40yds from some apple trees, 60yds from the field edge. I created a mock scrape 100yds away at an intersection of trails. Bad luck though, my camera didnt have service in there so I just need to “hope” the scrape gets used. Overall it looks like a good early season opportunity to try the ol Dan Infalt Beast Tactics… try and get close to that bed and catch him going to those apples or the scrape. Win or lose, this is gonna be fun! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
