Unless something changed in the last couple of months in ct that is wrong. You could hunt over feed in ct.

I use to go in the woods at 430am. I am pretty sure you could go any time just can not shoot.

But you never know-------- I was working on the roof of a house in poughkeepsie a few years back on oct 19th and all of a sudden i heard the hooves of deer running right on the driveway. It was a giant 130 class 8 pointer chasing a doe grunting and everything following her everywhere. I got so amped up with thinking the rut was gonna be early, I hunted every morning and night just about and Did not see any other rutting activity till the 1st week in nov.

Fkin stupid---------- It is legal every where except Illinois and new york. If you shoot a deer in most of the other states they ask you " what did you get them over"

It is not the rut........ Young bucks start chasing does in early september when in the mood. I would call it pre rut.

Rut will always be pretty much the same time every yr. Has nothing to do with tempature. Strictly photographic period....

Lowering the hunting age is better for recruitment than a special youth hunt. i am sorry but think it is ridiculous that people think this might actually be good for recruitment. Just about 100 percent of these kids are gonna hunt anyway.

Breeding in my opinion will always be just about the same every year no matter what the weather is or will be like. It is always photograpic period with anything regarding deer. Hottest summer of the yr 2 yrs ago, the rut started in nov. Warmest fall 10 yrs ago the rut started in Nov. All the weird stuff that has happened with stripers, and crabs this yr because of the warm temps does not mean the rut will be a month early. The bucks in my area are still in full velvet, the rut, guess what, will start in Nov like it always does

I oppose this youth hunt and before everybody gets all emotional consider this , The Youth Deer hunt is set for a holiday weekend and it'll be the first weekend of turkey hunting in the fall . Guys in cano will be walking in and out of the woods. Same with archers and small game hunters, those hunters will be walking in and out of the woods in camo. Not only that, the DEC is allowing buck or doe during the Youth hunt so they'll be very inexperienced hunters in the woods looking for anything that moves and they'll be hunters walking in the woods dressed in camo. Does it make any sense ?????? This youth hunt is nothing but an early season for dad who'll grab the gun and shoot his trophy buck. Parents were the ones who suggested a Youth Deer hunt. This wasn't a DEC thing. Naturally Dad wants this Youth hunt weekend so he can get first crack at the buck he's been seeing all summer. Stop babying new hunters, either they like hunting or they don't. The excitment of opening day is more then enough to get young hunters interested. I was 12 years old in 1976 the first time I went deer hunting. It was 5 below zero the morning we got up to hunt in the Catskills near Livingston Manor. That morning I had to cross a stream with leaky boots and I had all the wrong clothing for that days hunt. But I look back and it was one of the most exciting days of my life. Don't endanger our lives DEC to give dad and his son first crack at a deer. This hunt is for 14 and 15 year olds , what about 16 , 17, 18 year olds ? they get discouraged to. To many bowhunters would not buy a license if that happened and they know this. I would not be to worried about that. More and more people would go hunt other states.

hey wdswtr, go get your earmuffs and your baseball. Last yr after the first comment period it was made public that the gun hunters went nuts about there being a youth hunt the 2 days prior to gun season. And you know what there biggest reason was " It is to cold for them that time of the year" Ok go get your thermacells you friggin Idiots, have a blast. If you think Im lying go look it up. I am sure you cut and paste boys could find it.

That it is easier to kill a deer in october than it is the 2 days before reg season. Please dont tell me that is the reason because that has got to be just as funny as it may be to cold for them.
