I copied that off the 2015 regulations,

That will be in your guide you get with your license, well that is if they print enough for everyone. I knew we would get to the bottom of this sooner or later. DEC makes things so damn hard to find, answers and regulations are so darn spread out on the website and the guide its pathetic. I do believe there is even a clause in the guide about referring to DEC website for correct regulations or some crap like that. We just got to laugh.

This Will Be An Odd Question
wdswtr replied to DirtTime's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
google secret spot food plot seed. Sunlight will be the killer though, I think most require 2 to 4 hours of sunlight a day. Being small areas the cost is small enough to give it a whirl. I know guys who have used various brands of secret spot with some success deep in the woods. -
Sorry got on a rant there lol. 5j is buck only for regular season, that does not apply for bow season or ML season. Here is what you are looking for in writing. Download this pdf link go to page 28 for tag descriptions. You can use your either sex tag or antlerless tag during bow season in 5j and all n. tier zones. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/15biggame.pdf

http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28605.html#deer Bow season norther zone, the area in yellow on first map. You hunt with the bow tags you have, which would be either sex tag and if purchased an ML tag it gives you an additional antlerss tag to use for bow season or ML season. This is for the whole N tier that is in yellow. Now for ML if you are in an area on the ML season map that is antlered only the only tag you can use is your ML either sex tag to take a buck. I understand why this is confusing cause bow and ML are in same season. Its stupid as hell always has been always will be. If you follow the dates and which deer you can take is so dumb if you think about it. It tells us we can not shoot a doe with our ML during this ML season but yet we can with our bow in a few WMU's in N.Tier, however bow and ML are in the woods at the same damn time. Stupid its just stupid, OK so go ahead shoot a doe on october 17th with our bow in these areas but you cant shoot a doe with your ML on october 17th even though both season area open. You got to laugh at this. Sorry it took so damn long for me to figure out what you are talking about. Long week lol. Still how much sense does the DEC make with this? ABSOLUTELY NONE!
-
LOL Im just trying to figure out what you are asking. When you state early season the way DEC defines it and the way us norther tier guys define it, two different things. Early season we consider sept.27 to sept 30th, then bow then ML then regular season. Im guessing you are talking about taking a doe during bow season? What WMU are you hunting up here?
-
And as far as using your regular season tag from previous hunting season, you can take either buck or doe with your bow from sept 27 to sept 30 if you still posses it. Cut and paste again from DEC website. Regular Season Deer Tag Antlered Deer Only Exceptions: Antlered or Antlerless During the regular season in Westchester Co. and during any season in Suffolk Co. In Areas restricted to longbow hunting only During late season (with bow or muzzleloading privilege) September 27-30, in the Northern Zone with previous season's unused tag and bow privilege
-
From the NYDEC website. Q: May I use my Bow/Muzzleloading tags (either-sex and antlerless tags) during the Regular Season? A: No. Bow/Muzzleloading tags are only valid during the special bowhunting and muzzleloading seasons depending on which privileges you purchased. Bow/Muzzleloading tags are not valid during the Regular Seasons, except in Westchester and Suffolk Counties or by junior archers hunting with a bow during the regular seasons. Q: May I use my Regular Season deer tag during the special seasons? A: Your Regular Season deer tag cannot be used in the Early Bowhunting or Early Muzzleloading seasons. It can only be used in the Regular Deer Seasons in the Northern and Southern Zones to take a buck. Except, the Regular Season deer tag is valid for deer of either sex in Westchester & Suffolk counties, in areas restricted to bowhunting only (WMUs 4J and 8C), and during the late seasons with the appropriate bow or muzzleloading privileges. During the late seasons, the Regular Season deer tag is valid for deer of either sex. Q: Why are bowhunters not allowed to use the regular deer tag during the early Bowhunting Season? A: The simple reason is as a measure of fairness. Adult bucks are a limited resource, and many hunters go multiple seasons before successfully harvesting a buck. To allow bowhunters the opportunity to harvest two bucks prior to the opening of the gun season would be to provide bowhunters an unfair advantage. Q: Can I use my antlerless Bow/Muzzleloading tag in a unit where the muzzleloader hunting regulations specify only antlered deer can be taken? A: No. You may only shoot deer that can legally be taken in the unit in which you are hunting. The individual unit regulations and tag requirements must both be satisfied and dictate what may be taken during the muzzleloading seasons.

You cant use your early season tags during rifle season, you have to use your regular season tag, doesnt matter if you use your rifle bow or ml.

You can take a doe with your bow in NZ. 2 if you have last years tag left unfilled. ML run the last week of Bow. You can take a doe with your bow there are 2 areas however where you cant with a ML. Im not following what you are saying. Not many areas up here you can apply for a DMP cause the Doe are not nearly as plentiful. However if you are a landowner in NZ with enough land, I think 50 acres minimum you qualify for a doe permit regardless. The only issue I have is ML in the woods during bow season, the rifle season is so long there is no reason why we cant lose the first week of rifle and give ML's there own seperate season. I also like how much more peaceful our season is up here. Opening day you dont get the opening day warriors blasting every shell they can fit in their pockets non stop till they run out of light, cant take the weather or run out of ammo like in the southern zone.

Here is a link to your questions. http://www.oswegocounty.com/legislature/meetings/2014/edp%20agenda%2005-30-14.pdfYes its public land, land that was abandoned during the great depression and Roosevelt turned it into public land. This was to aid in putting a dent in the depression by putting people to work clearing the land and planting trees for future use. There was a bit of a land debate with the public and county on a particular parcel that was county land a few years back, the county claimed it not as public but efforts of the local public proved otherwise on this particular piece. If you scroll down to page 7 in the link you will see the list of public uses of the land which includes hunting. What has also happened in the past is some locals posting some of this land trying to force people off so they could have sole access to the land. Illegal of course but most of this land went un-noticed for many many years as being public land or county land. Some families had posted it for so long no one ever questioned it. Not the case any longer. You may just find that these areas are still a bit un recognized by the public and see limited use on them. However personally I would contact the County Offices noted in the headers of the attached link to confirm and show proof you are allowed to be there if you are approached by someone.

This is typical. There were a few years down to camp where they gave out doe permits like candy and sometimes you would even get one in the mail later on. I remember specifically between 3 camps we had over 60 doe permits, the following year it was PP only. Figure that one out and this is in one of the largest WMU in the state, if we had 60 in 3 camps how many were actually given out that year, then the following year you couldnt get one cause they gave so many out no one had a PP that hunted there.

I use to fish walleye series tournaments years ago. They can be crazy if you try to go in on the pro side, so many tournament regulations such as boat age, no second hand boats ownership etc. Its the main reason I got out due to the boat requirements, Not all of us are gonna dump 60k in a new boat every couple years. Of course it varies from series to series. If I was you and you really desire getting into the professional side is to spend a couple years as a pros partner otherwise what is called an amateur on a pro circuit. This will save you tons of money and get you tons of experience. And when I say tons of money Im not kidding. It was nothing for anyone of us to find a hot lure prefishing and go buy every darn one of them out of the local tackle shops before anyone caught on to the bite. I seen guys spend 4 or 5 thousand on just lures on any given week to keep them out of someone elses hands. 100's and 100's of dollars in fuel an oil just prefishing. Entry fees, and hotels it all ads up pretty quick. As an amateur your cost is significantly less, but so is your winnings, however the knowledge you gain is priceless. OH and the stress level can beat ya down in a heartbeat. When you got a lot invested in one tournament and you lost the bite, your blown of the lake for a couple days, someone beat ya to your spot, you got a rookie amateur messing you up, something breaks down etc your head can explode at times. Then other times your living a dream and life is good. I miss it just about every day but I dont miss the costs involved one bit. I tried little local tournaments since and they just dont compare, derbies forget about it those are strictly based on being lucky.

I wouldnt call Happy Valley under hunted by any means. Especially during ML season. Its within 10 minutes of my home and I no longer hunt it due to the pressure. The same along Lake O on Route 3. There is always hunters in there and its a go to spot for the late season up here as well. My best advice is to start knocking on doors now, and do not be afraid to ask the amish farms either. Offering them a part of your harvest can get you an in. Even more so if you are willing to pay some lease deal to hunt. They will be hunting in there as well at times if you get permission but they are busy people and do not hunt as much as some of us. Just dont show up on Sundays ever or you have zero chance.
-
There is a flaw in that plan, if you dont buy your ML tag you wont be buying your Bow tag either. Its the same tag.
-
Didnt read through all the post after this one, so if it was said already my apologies. Northern Zone they have Bow and Guns already in the same season. We get to hunt with ML or Bow the last week of a very short bow season to begin with. We get 2 weekends before the gun hunters are in the woods with us. Been this way for too long. We have a very long rifle season up here, no excuses why they cant take the first week of rifle and give it to ML and let bow stand alone.
-
I find it absolutely discouraging, you want to save bucks then why not drop it to 1 buck only.
-
Did Chad move to NY? aka ohiobooners? LOL
-
I sure wish they would change the northern bow season. We get 3 weekends of bow and one of those they throw in ML's with us. 6 weeks of rifle season why not just cut it back to 5 and give ML's that first week?
-
And how long will this so called pedigreed buck survive without being hand fed?
-
You should consider having your well water tested for hallucinogens.

With a pruner? Damn that must take all day. No wonder why it broke lol. Thats a job for a real chainsaw.

I know in my future I will have arthritis in my hands, if it has not already started. Some things that bother my hands are splitting firewood or turning wrenches for too long. My hands will lock up. Splitting wood was the worse as I could not let go of the axe handle no matter how much I tried until the muscles relaxed for a bit. I cured that problem with a hydraulic wood splitter though. I seen a doc about it years ago, I wasnt diagnosed with arthritis but was told it was probably inevitable. He gave me some advice as how to help prevent it and the biggest thing he said was do not sleep with clenched fist, it cuts the circulation on to your fingers. I followed that advice and sleep with open hands and noticed a difference soon after on how long it was before my hands would lock up or start to hurt when I was working.

Or even run a poll and let the majority decide.

This is quite funny to me. There are a very select few who flood this site with there conspiracy threads pasted from conspiracy theory websites, then there are interesting and factual political discussions, some relate to hunting in some form and most all do not. I think what most see and this is my opinion is these few guys which includes you come across as the whiners. You guys are whining in every damn post you make and call us whiners for not wanting to see this crap. Hunting threads get jacked and turned political with almost always excessive name calling and whining about whiners. Some things immediately come to mind. First its the rubberneck effect, you know like looking at the bad car wreck knowing you very well may wish you never looked but human nature sucks you in anyways. Second the name of this forum does say hunting in it but its turned into a non-hunting political conspiracy theory select few trolls who get there jollies of trying to ruffle feathers to get there last sentence in with there child like name calling cause you guys do not want, nor desire to actually have a decent conversation cause you are right and the rest of the world is wrong. Third the liberal name you guys throw at anyone who disagrees is an absolute joke. The obnoxious attitude of holier than though and smarter than 99.9 percent of all members makes you guys come across with more liberal tendencies than the very small amount of liberals who actually frequent this site. Fourth I would wager most all come to this site with out the intention of getting all political and rather escape it to enjoy the reason why we joined the place to begin with. Fifth I find it absolutely appropriate for political discussion if it pertains to hunting, however the name and bewildering of other members who view things a little different further divides us rather than unite. The best part is when one is weak there best defense tactic is going all grammer police. Sixth you want new members to keep the site active and new topics related to the name of the site going strong. Flooding it for new members with politics non related to our sport and the constant bashing and child like attitudes certainly will make people really question whether or not they are going to participate in such a place. This site use to be very enjoyable and full of great information and topics. Thanks to Papist, MrVJP and a very small select others it no longer is any form of enjoyable. Test it or look at the past history of the site and see what the real results are. Lock the political forum or rid the site of any non hunting related political discussions for a couple months and view the activity logs. If activity picks up or drops theres the answer to keep the site polluted or not.
