Dont want to discourage you but that is not an 8 point. It has no brow tines.

If your interested in purchasing this piece as you mentioned pay the 700 bucks. If you dont someone else will and that may close the door on you buying it and open the door for someone else. I have a lease and know many other people who do as well. Where the 20 bucks and less averages per acre are coming from is beyond me. There is a few variables, size, access, habitat etc. Most all people I know who lease pay what the landowners tax is on the land not including buildings etc, the accessed tax on the land alone.

Of course, why wouldnt you if there was an opportunity. I filled my antlerless bow tag opening bow and filled my dmp opening gun.

Years ago my brother shot an 8pt, it ran down into a ravine. When tracking it he found one of its antlers that looked like it just shed, when he got to it the other side was laying on the ground next too it. They werent a broken but shed with some blood around the base. I helped him drag it out of there and it got a doe tag. About the oddest thing I ever seen deer hunting.

Was pretty quiet this year at camp as well. Number of shots heard were probably 25% compared to years past. Still heard plenty of the 5 shot I forgot to aim on the first one guys though. Ironically I took an hour break at 1 to get warmed up and eat, jumped in truck and took a quick drive around and only vehicles around in the area were all Pa plates. As far as deer numbers I seen the most deer on opener than I have in a good 15 plus years.

HUH? Please tell me how shooting an older deer over a younger deer would make the population blow up. Last I knew filling a tag is filling a tag and its one less deer. You want the population to blow up then dont shoot does, or shorten gun season, or 1 buck only. I fail to see where age class has a bearing on population.

Crazy hunting tactic that has worked (or almost worked)?
wdswtr replied to sampotter's topic in Deer Hunting
Sampotter you are not the first guy to do what you did. I know a guy who strictly hunts that way. I remember the first time and quickly became my last time I hunted with him, I just about busted a gut watching this guy. Year in and year out he would shoot some really nice bucks and always fill his doe tags. I was rather envious back then of how he was so successful all the time. He told me all he does is still hunt till he finds a deer up to his likings and immediately runs at it, he said sometimes the darn things are so confused they just stand there not knowing what to think and other times if they took off he would just keep running after them and eventually they would stop to see what the heck was going on. He did this with bow and gun. The day I went with him it was gun season and sure as heck we no sooner got in the woods and this clown took off after this buck, I honestly thought he was just kidding the whole time. A short while later I hear him shoot. He comes back and says well you going to help me drag this thing out of here. Takes all kinds. -
I have to disagree with some of these post. The hunters with great hunting passion certainly spend as much time as they possibly can in the woods, however I am betting the vast majority of gun hunters are indeed a 1 and at best a 2 weekend warrior. I have hunted many different parcels of land over the years in many areas of the state and even too this day of owning a deer camp in southern tier, I can tell you for certain I never ever see the number of hunters anytime during the hunting season like I do opening weekend. And most all them are the Saturday opener only guys. There is close to 8000 acres of state land that is in the surrounding area of camp, its damn near void of hunters until opening weekend of gun. After that I see very few and when I do its a group of guys pushing the state land with deer drives. What i find annoying is every year on the last weekend of bow it seems these guys all pile in there vehicles with there gun and spend 2 days figuring out where they are going to sit for a few hours and then proceed to sight in there guns around the same area they are going to hunt. For example this past weekend on Saturday alone there was well over 200 gun shots and a drive around the area quickly confirmed people sighting in there guns. Sure makes the last weekend of bow suck and its right around prime time to be in the woods too. Its damn near scary at times to even be near some of these state land areas. You want to talk deer pressure? I dont think there is any more pressure on them then the weekend prior and opening weekend of gun. I think half of these guys dont even aim, how can you aim when your racking shells through your gun as fast as you possibly can pull the trigger? Sorry to say it boys and Im a Gun, ML and Bowhunter but gun season is by far and without question the most pressured time of the hunting season, shorter gun season and a 1 buck rule would do a hell of a lot more good than AR.

I agree somewhat, what bothers me a lot more is not the guy who states he pushes the hunting times a bit but the stuff that is shoved in these young hunters faces or any hunters face new or seasoned. You worry about the guys who condone a few minutes before or after legal hunting light. I see far bigger problems, we all see this every time we go into a supply store. Deer attractants, salt blocks, deer cocaine etc etc etc. Now go into the section to buy some broadheads, how many are aware or unaware that there is a damn good chance you will be purchasing an illegal broadhead? Does the store or manufacturer give a crap? I was just in the other day looking at broadheads killing some time. Some of these mechanical heads are illegal yet I hear people even on this sight tell how they use them and probably dont even know they are illegal in NY. There is at least one brand of Rage that is, I was looking at the G5 Havoc and they certainly are not legal in NY. IF they cant retract or fold back when pulled out leaving a "barb" then why does the state allow these stores to even carry such products, I dont want to hear about the guy passing through or hunts out of state analogy either. These things all tell us or entice us to use illegal products to hunt. Now throw in the confusing Grey lines in every darn hunting regulation and expect everyone to be top notch and not break at least one law. There are far more problems than a guy saying I shot a deer 3 minutes after sunset. Now what is even more ironic to me is the way the DEC has deciphered the time we can participate in any outdoor activity. Fishing, why is it I can go out on the lake and fish round the clock for salmon but yet as soon as I step on a tributary I limited to sunlight? Want to predator hunt? Heck round the clock is perfectly acceptable and safe in the DEC eyes as the regulations allow it as well. But yet we are not allowed to hunt when there is still good light for deer with any season. You cant fish after sunset on the Salmon River because they want to protect the numbers. DEC complains we are not doing our part as hunters in our deer harvest, so why do they not give us the extra hour a day to get our numbers up? Im sorry but these Holier than Though comments just make me laugh, you see we are all humans and all make mistakes whether on purpose or not Im willing to bet you all have done something illegal.

Am I the only one who has to read Growies post like 4 times to understand what she is saying? What I find comical about this whole thread is I think the OP speaks on behalf of the one weekend a year warriors who unload there guns at running deer before sunrise and somehow in some strange manner dont seem to shoot at all between sunrise and sunset. Yet just barely past sunset they start banging away again. At camp we get a kick out of opening day gun counting all the gunshots we hear before sunrise, I cant remember a year when it hasnt been over 100. Sad thing probably 80 of them are from about the same 4 guys lol.

Everyday at camp 365 days a year all the wind does is swirl. Its more normal than not where I hunt.

One of my first bucks with a bow quite some time ago when thunderheads were the "rage" at the time, the buck was quartering away pretty good, I shot seen the hit just behind shoulder. The deer ran hard and crashed head first in a tree within 30 yards of the shot and laid there dead. I got down and could not find my arrow. Went to the deer and could find an entry wound. Walked back on his trail to the shot, no arrow. I thought it was quite odd, gutted him out and hung him in the garage. When cutting him up I found about a third of my shaft and broadhead stuck in the opposite hind quarter. The deer never turned around during the shot but yet somehow the arrow deflected inside the deer on a quartering away shot and stuck in its hind quarters. Never could figure that one out and blamed the broadhead lol.

http://bowsite.com/bowsite/features/practical_bowhunter/deergrunting/ Scroll down on the page and you can hear audio of all the vocal sounds deer make. Click on rage'n grunts to hear the same sound more clearly that is in the video.

I have heard it several times. Usually when they are following behind a doe. I remember the first time I heard it during gun season a group of does come charging by me and after the racket they made settled down I could hear this odd click sound. Some call it a rage grunt.

The best 3, time, experience and numbers. It takes time to put more deer on the dinner table and with everyone you gain more experience. I was the same way when younger, in too big of a hurry and make mistakes. You get better and calmer as you age.

I will say this much, I have a piece that borders state land, In the process of posting the line there was one spot where there was no good tree to put a sign on. Yet there was one decent one about 2 feet on the state land side. It took less than a year for a knock on the door and LEO asking me to move it back a couple feet. He was very cordial about it. I thought it was not a big deal however the state apparently didnt think so. I also have yet to never see an easily and heavily marked state boundary line. Yellow paint where they bark has been removed, state land signs and metal corner post. They are easy to find.

We live in a throw away world now, however with all the appliances you have had crapping out I tend to think you have a power issue in your house. Electrical spikes, surges something sounds off. May be worth a call to an electrician.

That may have been true before Stihl opened there production plant in China in 2006. Now even there handles are plastic.

I had bursitis in my elbow a while back. I can tolerate pain pretty well, but the bursitis was bad, very painful. Hope you guys a speedy recovery.

They already passed though around here a few weeks ago. Seen a lot of them right from the start of NT bow opener and now they are gone.

I have a Lone Wolf and a Summit. Only time I use the Lone Wolf is when I head deep in the woods. Even then I sometimes still grab the Summit. I feal safe in the summit and the Lone Wolf not so much. Small seat, small platform its just not fun to sit in for any amount of time.

My dog stuck a knife in me about 6 years ago. I was sitting on floor sharpening my hunting knifes when she picked one up and before I could get it out of her mouth it was stuck in my lower back. That was a bloody mess.
