Not sure if this is compatible with all there hang ons or specific to a certain one, not much for info that goes along with it. Well isnt that odd I copied and pasted the link and it now takes you to a crossbow section. LOL I will try again. http://www.outdoorse...ummittalon.html thats better!

OMG! Bus Monitor Abuse in Greece NY (video)
wdswtr replied to Cabin Fever's topic in General Chit Chat
HOLY CRAP up to 425,000. Im thinking I want her job next. Just goes to show there are people in this world who do care. Awesome. -
Here is an idea that I have used a few times. Buy a cam lock receiver stand. Millennium makes a good one. Although the stand itslef is pricy the thing is you wont have to buy multiple stands, one is all you need. You buy a be receivers, set them up in your tree of choice. Carry the stand in and just clip it into the receiver. Much easier and QUIETER than trying to rap a chain or strap around a tree while holding it with one hand and struggling to reach around ahhhhh heck you get the idea. heres a link to the receiver. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Hunting-Treestands/Hang-On-Treestands|/pc/104791680/c/104783580/sc/104374080/Millennium8482-Cam-Lock-Receiver-Bracket/744809.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fhunting-hunting-treestands-hang-on-treestands%2F_%2FN-1100102&WTz_l=SEO%3Bcat104374080

Looks the same to me. I think the difference in the way the ear looks probably has more to do with the drying and shrinking of the hide, plus it looks like the taxidermist closed the gap up when he shaped the ear and held it in place while it dried to hold its shape with cardboard or whatever he uses during the drying period.

After looking at Mckenzie forms you pretty much are all correct. For example the Dennis Behn series semi sneek form looks like this first photo and then the Ben Mear series semi sneak looks like the second photo. I find this very odd. Is it like going to a diner and ordering a large soda and then going to B-King and ordering a large soda thats twice as big lol.

Loving the way the neck muscles stand out. Someone took there time to get the extra details in there.

That is just sick to even see Dave. Even the skull cap is more rounded than whats in the picture. Makes you wonder how much hide he trimmed off when he sewed the darn thing up. Hope you beat him up on the price. I have had that very same thing happen on a buck. Boy Im still pissed off about it. I even took the neck measurements with the guy and made sure it was correct before he ordered the form. Yeah not even close and what pissed me off even worse was he was starting to cape out a buck he had shot and the neck was no where's near the size of the one I brought in. Funny how when the two mounts were done his neck was exaggerated drastically and mine lost alot of inches. I looked on the back of his deers mount and yep you guessed it two seams where he cut in more hide to get it around the form, mine had a big bunched up pile of skin on the seam where it should have been fitted to a larger form. I ended up paying cost of materials and thats it.

How would you rate these factors in setting a bow stand?
wdswtr replied to regulat0r's topic in Bow Hunting
Your last sentence is exactly my point lol. -
All good points Dave but without seeing live pictures of it or soon after the kill, how do we know his eyes were not just what are reproduced in the mount? I honestly think this is a great mount if indeed it replicates its more natural state than a just glamoured up deer mount. Its a tad different but not so much at the same time as well. Either way I would be proud to have that hanging on my wall. But and I say But lol the ears do look a tad funny the way they are, and I say that cause I keep looking at the darn thing and the more I look the more the ears stand out LMAO

Imagine how many you never got to even see cause he smelled you first. Wind still my #1 -
Well I guess it depends on the your likes. Really not easy to tell from a picture. What I do not like in a mount is one that is all prettied up and looks so flawless its fake looking. I actually like mounts better that show a more realistic view of them in the wild with there scars or any flaws not touched up. If lots of pictures where taken and this is how the buck looked then its a great mount in my eyes. On another note how is this not a typical buck? After seeing the picture of the mount what is the big debate about? What am I missing? Sure looks typical to me.

Yeah I thought about that after I posted. I wasnt thinking about getting below the frost line. Carry on lol.

If I recall correctly part of it was due to it being a day weekend for kids, why the 3 days and not just 2 I would guess more opportunity for youths.

What do they have to dig for? Can you not disconnect the water line at the well and pull the pump out? Im confused lol

The only one not mentioned. Wind is my number one factor in stand placement. All the others are great but if the wind is wrong they are not so great anymore. -
I quit shopping at both of them. Big reason is most of the prices at our local lumber/hardware store is alot cheaper. for example I just bought 10 2x8x12 Pt boards. 3.50 each cheaper than Lowes. Second reason is I think the quality of the lumber is far more superior. last time i got lumber at Lowes I had to sort through 3 times the amount of lumber than i had to buy to find semi decent boards. Local store i picked up the first 10 2x8x12 and not one of them had a problem. Now the only problem with the local store is they carry all higher end power tools and they do cost for quality when some of us guys dont need the high end stuff.

Anyone else find it a tad humorous the title above DOCS avatar LMAO sorry DOC I had too. Okay I didnt have to but wanted too.
-
Yep misread. I said if your pump is in your well.
-
Cool picture for sure. I went out west to bow hunt mountain lions in Arizona several years ago with no success but one thing stuck in my mind is the ranchers all said the mountain lions would only eat a fresh kill, once its belly was full they would not eat of that carcass again. Not sure if that is indeed true but its what they said, anyone know for sure?
-
Very cool, is your total 100 or are you saying you found 100 again this year? Either way thats alot of searching.

First photo is a pressure regulator switch. This turns the pump on when pressure is low and off when its high Second photo is a check valve. It stops water from draining back into the well and allows you to hold pressure in your tank Third picture is a foot valve. It does the same as a check vavle but is before a shallow well pump that is not located in the well to allow the pump not to loose prime. After reading all of this I am thinking regardless if your tank bladder has a leak in the bladder you should still be holding water and when the pressure regulator switch calsl for the pump to turn on it should fill up but what will happen is the pump will have to cycle more often in order to maintain the pressure in the tank. I do not see how it is possible for you to have a foot valve if your pump is located in the well, (jet pump) Its a pain in the arse but to find out if you have a bad check valve you can do as defrazzle said or fill your holding tank up with the pump and disconnect the water line between the check valve and pump and see if it is allowing water to flow backwords, To see if your pressure regulator switch is functioning just run your water and watch to see if the contacts switch back and forth. IF it doesnt its bad if it does cycle meter the contacts and see if its passing voltage, if it is not your switch is bad, if it is your pump is bad. What I actually think is wrong is your inpellar on your pump is bad, My guess is when you have low or no pressure the pump can handle filling the tank up for a bit until the inpellar can not keep up with the higher pressure levels and just does not spin on the pump shaft.

DOC you have little to no knowledge of what myself, most other bowhunters or other hunters that are not a NYB member has done to promote or get invovled in. Commenting in such a manner that you feel NYB is the only people in this state that does is silly. I have already stated things I do or have done to voice my concerns and opinions. I respect your opinion and right to voice your concern and stance on NYB. You saying "If you want to be ignorant about pending legislation that relates to bowhunting and who and where to send opinions on that info, that is your right. Throw it out. Nobody is going to show up on your door-step. But for those of us who care about such things", is B.S. in itself. there is no ignorance on pending legislation nor is there ignorance on where to send opinions, you see I have my own opinion that is not made up for me and a written letter ready for me to cut and paste to an email address in my name. I will and do voice my own opinion and concerns. I do and will write my own with my own words. You keep calling BS, basic lying and false info but the thing is you are stating things about me and other non NYB or former NYB members that are absolutely false. Call it lying ,bs or whatever you feel the need to do. Which is just another reason why I do not let NYB or want NYB speaking on my behalf. Feel free to get the last word in and I will call it a dead debate and get back to the original post.
-
Actually DOC you are absolutely wrong, Yes I was a member, yes I have read every darn magazine that shows up at camp, yes I read and still get all the RED ALERT prewritten bs emails from NYB that do all the thinking for the members who have no idea how to stand up and create there own written opinions to legislatures. See the difference in opinions is in how one wants to interperate what they cram down there members throat.. Again they have done some good but sorry they are the perfect persona of liberal thinking, Show the good they done and never talk about there losses or negative impacts or mistakes that effect other hunters,I have seen and read many articles on NYB from other sources as well and I just do not want them speaking or standing up for me as I do not agree with the vast majority of there agenda. They should stick with what they do best and that is promoting the sport of archery, youth and soldier programs. Sorry but you just dont get new annual members and still never raise your membership numbers for no reason at all. By the way do you have permission from the President and board of directors to be speaking on the behalf of NYB? Is that not written right in there code of ethics? And yes I said Iam a bowhunter and its my prefered choice to hunt with but first and foremost Im a hunter and my head isnt swollen enough to think that my choice is better than any one else choice of how or what they choose to hunt with and nor shall I cram it down anyones throat and brag about it. Instead of dividing the hunters they should damn well focus on uniting them.
-
Doc I understand your input and thoughts as it is right for you to do just that and I respect you for it. I have a NYB member in hunting camp with me, it gets pretty ugly at times hearing the same comments over and over and over just like it was repeated right from the bylaws or some manual from NYB. Deer season as we know it will cease to exist, is my favorite of them all. The thing is yes NYB has done some good actually great things for youth's but then they whine when it comes to a youth hunt season that has been suggested. Sorry but Less than 1% of all bowhunters do not get ALL the credit they so claim. I cant get deep into this as it gives me a migrane thinking about it. Like already said are an ELITE group with no to little concern about what the other 99% of hunters want or believe. The whole crossbow deal they started was disheartening the way they bashed the heck out of them. I also love how a few years back they had the same problem with muzzleloaders and yet in the end they came out with WE WON WE WON when in all actuallity they did not win that battle they started at all. If they did indeed win why is our last week of Muzzleloading season in the same season as bow in NT? They could possibly have had a great organization but they lost that respect by many many bowhunters, yes actually about 99% of them. Sure glad I brought this topic up but I do have to ask what freebies are we taking by not being members of NYB? I also have to disagree that joining them (for me again) to fight them on the inside seems rather rediculous to me. SO I give them my money to fight for what they want? Really think they will listen? Besides if I remember the bylaws right I would not be a member long if I created controversy withing the organization due to me disagreeing with them, yet I bet they would not return my money and use it. Sorry but I pay my fees to hunt, I also have spent alot of time writing letters and emailing legislatures, I have gone to several meeting the DEC held in watertown looking for hunter input, I have sent in all the surveys I have received in the mail ( well except this years trappers survery yet) I have also spent many hours teaching my kids the ins and out of hunting along with helping other family and friends along the way, so whatever that freebie is Im getting I think I am doing my part as a hunter to get those so called Freebies.
