  1. I wasnt refering to the climber on that post I was refering to your comments posted above about the stand being fair game and taking it. You said it not me "Son".
  2. I say not. I see where the intention of the thread is going. You want to take this guys stand for yourself right. Sorry but just because the regs say it has to be out by end of hunting season doesnt make it yours. Besides I bet if you called the DEC they would be telling you its the hunting season so its fine. You would need proof that its been there prior to the begining of the season let alone a few years. It would be state property not yours to claim if it was proved.
  3. Steve Thanks for putting the link up, Im trying to browse forums, and read the pms and havent had a chance to look. Good stuff most guys would have sat here and debated it instead of looking. Your one of the good ones. As far as climbers I am willing to take a bet that its all up to the officer that catches you. I would ted to think that if they frowned upon it we would hear more about guys getting fined over climbers.
  4. Like I said its new. Im digging through righ now to find it for you. It was a change that was made from the public proposal meetings that the DEC has. They received enough input that they changed it.
  5. We have had this discussion before. Yes you can now leave your treestands on state land. They must be taken out by the last day of the latest hunting season. I will dig through and find the link on DEC's website.
  6. My problem isnt buck fever, I dont get all knee knocked and shakey and loose all common sense lol. I just blow the shot lately. After 20 years of bowhunting and taking the majority of all my deer with a bow I just dont get where I lost it again. Like I said the orange reminder sticker is going back on the bow. Simple and efffective for me. Well atleast in the past.
  7. That is part of the problem right there, well maybe it is but I found out years and years ago that hunters are much like fisherman when it comes to stories, sorry guys but I have heard some real good stories, and those darn tv shows fills heads with unrealistic expectations and gets guys pumped up only to be disappointed after watching 100 deer on tv under this guys stand and you come home seeing nothing. Its just not like that for the majority of us. Theres times when you go out and see nothing for days. Now as far as the original post goes theres alot left out of it for more answers to it. Without seeing or a description of the property and surrounding land its hard to say. I will give you scenario to play around with. I hunt this one piece of land and its alot of acreage, a few thousand, mostly state land and my private land as well. Aside from hardwoods, a couple small 1/2 acre foodplots and some wild forage growth theres not much holding the deer up there except cover. I say that cause what borders this land is all farms, with corn, soybeans, clover, old apple orchards well you get the idea. Its basically one big transition area for the deer to get from one side to the other, the only time we start to see some real deer activity is when the bucks start pushing the does, the does head for the woods for cover until they are receptive. In that short 1 to 2 weeks out of the year its a honey hole, rest of the year its a crap shoot. If your still seeing the fawns with the does its a tad early yet as the rut breaks these groups up. But as long as your still seeing does and they dont get pushed off the land the bucks or buck will show up, the question is will you be there when he does. Keep at it its an obsession, a passion and a disease all rolled into one lol.
  8. I find it quite odd that there are deer 7 miles down the road and not on that woodlot with a couple small farms around to boot. Is there something Toxic in the water there killing them?
  9. Now I am thinking the opposite. I have 19's and want to go to 29's again. The damn fiber optics break way to easy and I find it hard to focus in on the 19's and a spot on the deer. I have the same issue this year for some reason and you guys are not alone. I cant explain whats going on but I have launched 3 arrows 2 missed and a high hit buck that I tracked walked grids and even brought the dogs out with no luck. Never found the arrow either. I can tell you what I have done in the past that cured me of this the last time I had these problems, which Im going to revert back too. I think whats going on is panic shooting, taking the first available kill shot. Once I got away from doing that and settling down a bit I found that the first opportunity isnt always the best one. If you dont have time to pick a spot raise the bow, draw, anchor, make sure your form is right and settle the pin on the spot its a panic shot. To remind me off all this, especially bend at the waist when in a high stand, is I put a round orange sticker on the upper limb above my site. Sounds funny but as soon as I seen it, it reminded me to settle down and focus. Guess I have to put one on the bow this year, thought I was over this a few years ago lol. Now just got to remember where I put the stickers.
  10. I agree I have been hunting hard in 7m this weekend I seen a total of 12 deer, 4 were bucks one real nice 8 and 3 out of 4 I seen does were around them and the bucks paid little attention to the does. Mid last week the scrapes got real active. Only one evening so far I have seen deer and that was a 4 point and a doe cam in afterwords. Still all my sightings are between noon and 3. Nothing in the morning unless you count jumping a couple does on the way in but I dont count that. 12 deer in one weekend at my camp is pretty darn good however for these past few years. Gone are the days of watching a dozen does single file walk by your stand.
  11. Man I remeber a few years ago there was snow on the ground opening day of bow. Seen it a few times down to camp. Part of being on the top of a big ole hill I guess
  12. Also check the cams over good and make sure theres no burrs on them or they are bent. A burr can severe a string and a bent cam would track the string off them. Both not good.
  13. Is the date on the pictures wrong? It say 2008 but Im at mid 120's with this one. Good buck either way you look at it.
  14. Ahh its 315 in the morning what the heck you doing in a stand already? You got it bad man real bad LOL.
  15. How do you know it wasnt the last minute rifle sighting in ceremony? Same deal in southern tier last day of bow you hear more gunshots than all season long. Hell I have seen guys drive in state land and setup a makeshift target to sight in then come back the next morning and hunt there. Never understood the theory behind any of it. I bet these are the same jackasses that fire every round out of there gun ata deer 300 yards away running through the woods.
  16. Good choice. Heres a thought for you guys anyways. Lets do an experiment shall we. Go climb up your tree in ready to hunt mode. I will drive up to the range, ring a bell yell range is hot and lets see if you can lower your bow to the ground, unhook your safety strap, climb down, pick up your bow and safely exit the woods before I have one bullet launched from my gun. Who's going to win?
  17. Well again you are trusting your own personal learnings in others hands that might not have the same views or common sense. So in my opinion you are putting yourself at risk. You alreay proved the lack of ability of others to read, care, be considerate or whatever you want to call it. SO that leaves it up to you to be smart about this and not get shot. If you want to trust others and keep your stand their than thats is your business I guess. Not trying to be hard on you but sure would like you to make it to 17 and beyond. Please move the stand to a safer spot.
  18. Im thinking the same thing. Move your stands. Being that close to the firing range isnt a good plan regardless if there is a sign out front saying the range is closed or a meeting states no shooting during bow season. You already stated the obvious and said he didnt attend the meetings. How many others havent either? Do not trust anyone trust yourself and move out of gunfire.
  19. You can make your own sign post under your stands. Get a cedar fence post the fresher the better and drive it in the ground. You will be amazed at how fast it gets torn up. Done it a few times and it still suprises me each time it happens. It need to be a green though and not all dried up.
  20. Looks like a 13 point with a broken brow tine. 210 seems rather high to me. Nice deer however. If I could ever figure out how to post a picture I would. I can do it on every site im on but this one. I give up.
  21. How the hell could he be 2 years old. I didnt know deer where born in October.. 2 years 7 months 1 week and 3 days old LOL I say 90 inches at best
  22. Oh I truly can relate. I an pretty much narrow it down to 3 or 4 different last names to the troublemakers out here. Whenever something happens for the bad all the locals will say which one was it XXXXX, or XXXXXX LOL. I could tell you stories for days. But hell yeah cheese curd from colosse good stuff. If you havent been around these parts in awhile you would be suprised at all the amish that have moved in as well.
  23. Well since the DEC has a facility/training center right in teh next town over in pulaski they are in there more now. But with the declining employment with officers its only going to get worse. There are however some nice buck taken out of their over the years. Theres alot of woods to explore but Im just to afraid of the tires getting slash nowadays after I seen that mess. Its a trappers heaven as well. Theres not a pond creek or mudpuddle in there without a trap in it.
  24. I think its just the angle of the pictures. Those are either twins or the same. Would be cool for him if he has twins like that running around.
  25. Im real close to Happy Valley. Its hunted hard especially the week of Muzzle loaders. I have driven through it during hunting season and even hunted it for a bit but after one trip there and seeing a few vehicles with 4 flat tires I decided I will pass on that place again.
