  1. This is getting more and more interesting lmao. I had 2 guys show me this picture on their cell phones today. One claimed it was his nephew that shot it and it was not anywhere near Cornell. Nephew, I had to laugh at him the dude in the picture looks older than him. Something just doesnt seem right about this deer to me. Here we got a picture of a guy holding it but yet nobody knows who he is or everyone knows who he is and none of them are the same guy. Cant wait to watch this unfold to see what the real deal is.
  2. I would agree they are the same. The right ear just below the browtine has a white patch on both bucks. Either that or its a twin lol
  3. No snow nada just rain lush mix, nothing on the ground with 60 in the forecast all weekend.
  4. You have to be careful with this as you can get the wrong memory cards. Some older model cameras and computers only are able to read sd cards. If I remember right the sd cards are 2 gig. Alot of the newer equipment only reads SDHD cards. Your camera may very well be working fine but you are unable to view the pictures on your computer or other device do to the different formats. If this is the case you can purchase an accesory fo your computer to read the SDHC cards. Its about 20 bucks and need a usb port to plug into. There are no available downloads for a computer to read them it is a hardware not software issue.
  5. To clear up any confusion here is what it says right out of the syllabus. Tagging Heres what you must do immediately upon killinga deer or bear. 1. Fill in ALL information on the CORRECT carcass tag with ink that wont erase. 2. On the reverse side of the tag, cut out or mark BOTH the month and the date of kill in the margin of the tag. Also, add your SIGNATURE. 3. Once filled in, the tag may not be altered. 4. Find the CORRECT DOC # on the report panel and add the date of kill. Save this panel as you will need it later when you report your harvest. 5. You do not need to attach the tag to your harvest while it is being dragged or physically carried from place of kill to a camp or a point where transportaion is available. 6. Once you get to the camp or vehicle, attach the tag to the carcass imediately. 7. Keep the tag attached to the carcass until it is cut up and prepared for consumption. 8. Remember to REPORT your harvest.
  6. Dave sorry about not being able to take Bailey. Wish it could of worked out for both you guys, Bailey and ourselves. I will keep weeding through some people I know as well. Keep at it you will find her a perfect home. Nice talking to you on the phone I could just hear the passion in your voice about the dog. She is a good looking pup someone will fit her needs keep the faith.
  7. Thats why I asked What breed she was. I thought she looked like an NSDT myself. I have 3 Dogs myself, A german shorthaired thats my hunting companion then the wife has her Beagle that spoiled rotten and a rescued Lab/german sheppard that was sitting on a concrete floor his whole life in a dog pound. my daughters boyfriend had to have his dog put down in the spring I think it was from old age. We will see what happens here. Looking forward to talking to you later today.
  8. Robinson where are you located? My daughters boyfriend is looking for a young dog. He is a great guy and has wanted a dog for quite some time. He had found a stray a couple months ago and posted adds and looked all over for the owner and never found that person. A month goes buy and he is taking the pup for a walk and this car pulls up and says you found my dog we have been looking for him for weeks. The kid was heartbroken. What kind is he and do you have an age. I will pm you with my info give me a call I hope you are not too far out and I will talk to my daughter tonight about it to make sure first. I will see what I can do.
  9. I agree with 5.9 I live on the tug hill plataue and we get pounded. I can get on the main corridor that goes through my land and ride for days and not cut my tracks twice. Old forge has a phenominal trail system some of the smoothest widest trails I have ever been on but you pay to ride them. I think the only place it gets better riding is Canada. Hell they ride them to work, I know guys in canada that have over 50,000 miles on their sleds.
  10. 4 strokes and snowmobiles is an oximoron in my book lol. 2 stroke is where its at, the smell, the throttle response and that ripping motor sound, 4 strokes are a heck of alot more money to buy as well. Nothing like the sound of a piped up triple 2 stroke.
  11. Ahhh snowmobiles. I was hardcore up till a few years ago. I have 2 yamahas, bored, polished, reed kits, clutch kits ripsaw tracks, performance exhaust, Ohlens shock upgrades, you name it I did it lol. Raced them, big air contests, oh the good old days when the economy was great. I lost a close friend and his son to a bad car accident we rode everywhere together, spent many hours on the trails. Just not the same without him. I will say this hope you got cash if you are into riding alot. I get 9 miles to the gallon on one of my sleds, you ride for a full day at 12 gallon a fill up at 5 bucks on the trail plus injector oil over 40 bucks a gallon. 6 hours of riding your going to easily put 240 miles on a sled. Thats about $135 in fuel $40 bucks in oil. $175 bucks just to ride for 6 hours, add in the maintenance and food, fuel if your transporting them. Now throw X2 in there for both sleds OUCH. Sure is a blast though.

    Salmon Run?

I trust me I believe you I have seen alot of slobs over the years. Salmon that is lol. I was dumbfounded that a 35 pound salmon won the derby. Hell I released bigger fish than that this year. But it was my neighbor who won it anyways and he has a handicap so I was glad to see him get it.

    Salmon Run?

If you caught a 46 pound salmon on the SR I hope you got that certified on a good set of certified scales who knows it could of went bigger. The record is 47 lbs 13 oz caught in 1991. The biggest fish entered in this years tournament was 35lbs and the guy took home over 2 grand in cash for it. Biggest one I ever caught was last year 47 7/8 inches long and 41lbs 11 oz. Dec took the skull and scale samples.

    Salmon Run?

I just go out back behind my house, not so many people there, nice perk growing up and living on the Salmon river. I start salmon fishing early in the season and quit when northern bow opens. Best steelhead fishing is anytime after Jan 1. everyones gone and theres are plenty of 12 plus fish days if you can handle the cold.

    Salmon Run?

Yes the salmon are still in not fresh ones but salmon none the less. Steelheads and Browns are in pretty good.
  17. WNY, heres the reply that you are betting you wont get. It boils down to this. You are a moderator, you directly represent this forum, when I or any member sits here and reads post after post of bantering, argueing, disagreeing, heated debate, overly opinionated what ever you would like me to call it it looks bad. There has been many times that even you mods have gone back and forth with each other over something that you disagree on. Instead of posting negative feedback that directly inpacks the OP you should have done what you did in the end and just Start the Anatomy of a deer thread. That is good info for hunters to look over and see where they made a mistake. We all make mistakes noone is perfect. Heres the thing we are all behind a computer for all we know you could have been smiling or kidding around. One thing that is lost and or not reconized is a computer is unable to reflect your personality or anyones, some simple words can and does turn the atmosphere sour real quick even though the intentions was not directed in that path. You may feel that what you have posted was not in no way offensive but it doesnt come across that way just reading plain text. Being a MOD is not an easy task one has to be careful as to their postings and wording they should not come across as offensive towards an OP they should be redirecting a topic back on course instead of feeding ,aside from daily Mod duties which I have no idea what you have access to as a mod and can change on this site. Of course you dont have to agree with an OP input is good, going on and on about back and forth with a member about anything looks bad. It just looks like I got to get the last words in BS. Im sure you will disagree and post something derogitory. Take an example from Bermjohn, he played it smart and stayed out of this, I also dont see him making statements that negatively effect a member. He also doesnt post to every thread. If something bothers you that much about an OP maybe a PM would be a better way of handling things.
  18. Ahhhh wait hold still till I get the camera, quite crying, I said hold still. Are you kidding me they made the guy stand there and take a picture instead of helping him LOL only in Auburn.
  19. I love it Hunters Helping Hunters. What a great thread for anyone thinking about joining the site or even considering to ask someone for some advice or help when this happens to them. Cause it happens to all of us sooner or later. What even makes it better is some of you are MODERATORS of this site. Nice real nice.
  20. I try to move my stands right before or during rain. Washes the scent away. Do it all the time. Not much different than taking a climber in the woods and using that other than you take the stand back out and do it over and over, you get the point.
  21. Here you go hopefully this works. Yeah guess it did twice lol
  22. That is the second buck that I have seen or heard of that tipped the scales at 278. The one I know of was shot 2 weekends ago in Stueben county. Its my brothers hunting partner so I know its for sure I have a picture of it on my android. Not sure if he would like me putting a picture of him with his deer on the net. I will see if I can edit his face out lol and post it. Its the big it looks like a horse.
  23. I would like to see that in writting somewhere. I highly doubt it is illegal. Now if you were to use one on a thinly barked tree that is tears up then yeah maybe but on a good hardwood I would have to say no way. By damage knocking off a little bark is far from damage. Driving nails and screws into a tree, cutting limbs or brush in the area, screwing in tree steps yeah I would say thats damage. Call your DEC office they would know better than a bunch of guesses on a forum. Including mine. I also wonder how many hunters take care in not damaging a tree on state land then screw in a hook to hang their gear from. I can tell you I drill a 1000 holes in maple trees every spring , the same ones my dad and grandfather drilled holes in and those arent damaged they heal over just fine. I wonder what DEC defines as damaged to begin with. Big Grey area there.
  24. I wont take a fawn period. If Im going to spend 98 dollars on a license I want my moneys worth not a bread bag full of tender meat lol. I however will not take a doe with 2 fawns either, she a breeder and thats a good thing where I come from. Never understood the concept of shooting a fawn what little you get out of one isnt worth the tag that you could put on a big doe. I also dont see the challenge in shooting a fawn. Just my opinion and Im sticking with it.
  25. 10 dollars an acre for any hunting lease with even semi decent hunting on it is a very cheap price. The going norm is about a 1000 for every 50 acres. I have searched this alot and I have a couple leases as well. For example I am looking at a lease in Stueben county that is 68 acres that borders all farm land with an old apple orchard in it for 1300. What you need and I cannot stress this enough is liability insurance. Most private land owner leases do not have it as an option for you. Most leasing agencies that represent landowners offer it or include it as part of teh lease. For example that 68 acres has a 3 million dollar liability insuranc policy for a fee of less than 100 a year that each person on the lease has to pay. Its cheap and if you ever need it and dont have it you will lose your arse. Getting the liability insurance yourself might be more never looked but the leaseing companies usually from what I can tell get it so cheap from the quanity of lease members they have. Also if you build or leave a temporary or permanent structure on the lease and you care about it or its content I recomend insuring that as well plus contents, This is a couple hundred more a year. I have had to claim on this as some scumbags shot out the windows of my camp and stole some proerty out of it. Insurance covered the damages and contents. Just something for you to think about to protect yourself. Also make sure you are the first option to renew and I recomend doing this in advance and not waiting till the last day, they will start looking for others to fill the void if your not prompt and ahead of them, its their land they can throw you out and get the next guy offering up a few hundred more.
