Yeah I get the conservationist well atleast when they decide they are going to mail me an issue. I buy the Conservation legacy license and the first few years you would get a pin and the subscription came when it was suppose to. Last year I only received 2 issues. We will see how it goes this time around. Now bout this older man shooting that eagle. SOmeone can corret me if I am mistaken but once the DEC issues the ticket its all up to the town judge from there. DEC did their job the judge failed.

Yes its Bob O'Brien brain froze up there for a minute. DId they do the ash tree logging there yet? I got an email that they were going in and logging all there leases of the mature ash trees before the EAB and ALB destroyed them. They have marked the trees for harvesting but darn its starting to worry me a bit that they will be in their during bow season.

Culver are you leasing from Cotton& Hanlon? Thats who my lease is with and Brian has been great along with the whole company. Our lease is the same treat it like your own just dont harm a tree. Our cmap has an annual camp fee as well along with insurance that we added ourselves. The landowners permits they apply for and give out is a nice bonus as well. At one point they told us that if we do not take enough doe of the land they would have to bring in a 3rd party to do it. Enough said we dont have that talk anymore lol. The deal is great but I still feel as though it was a stupid mistake to build a camp on it as it is now theirs and not ours, after all its not like I can just pull a camp behind my truck lol.

Does anyone else find it very odd that the 2 moderators are always in a "heated debate" ? Come on guys relax a bit theres no need to turn every post into a mod debate.

I dont mean to be the cloud that cover the sun but you might want to take some of this into consideration. The use of the tarp to cover the water tank poses some hazards you might want to consider. I cut and pasted thefollowing so some dont think I am just shooting in the breeze tarps break down pretty fast especially if they are not UV coated. The manufacturing plastics often creates large quantities of toxic chemical pollutants such as dioxin, hydrochloric acid, and vinyl chloride. This poses a severe health risks to humans during the PVC life cycle. These toxins can produce sever illness like cancer, diabetes, neurological damage, reproductive and birth defects. Dioxin is a persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), this are chemical substances that persist in the environment, bio-accumulate through the food chain, and pose a risk of causing adverse effects to human health and the environment. In addition, the chloro-ethene monomer is also a carcinogen released during PVC manufacture. This un-reacted monomer can also be present in the final PVC and released during its life cycle. Plasticizers added to make PVC flexible, may leach out (ex. group phthalates) which are also toxic. Okay now about the water. Leaving water without being oxygenated serves some health risks as well such a malaria for example. Stagnent water is a breeding ground for parasites and bacteria which can and will lead to health concerns and not to mention a breeding ground for mesquites that transfer the bacteria and diseases contained in that water. I understand your good willed intentions but I would be a bit concerned about having stagnent water that I put there for wildlife to consume and a breading groung for mesquitoes. Just a thought you might want to take into consideration. [/left]

Geno I think you are on the right track myself. Look at it this way you can lease a piece of land. From what I can tell it averages about 2000 for 100 acres. You could lease that for say 10 years and you spent 20,000 dollars on land you dont own cant cut a darn live tree on it etc. Or you can go out and buy for example 50 acres thats for sale in Corland for 59,000 for 10 years. Yes there are still taxes on it of course to be paid but in that county I suspect your taxes are going to be around 2000. So now you own 50 acres, you can develop it, do whatever the hell you want and then in those same 10 years turn around and sell it for what you paid or more, unless you mortgage it. Play it right and you can get more. Land is a great investment. If one has the monatary funds to buy land I highly recomend it. Your not wasting your money. So to wrap it up a lease for 2k gets you just that a lease, 50 acres for 59k plus taxes its a no brainer. You still lose the 2k you would of spent on a lease anyways but you have the potential to turn a profit or atleast get your money back and do whatever the hell you want within legal limits of the law. I have both. The lease is the worst invenstment I have ever made. I enjoy the land and family time on it but have wasted my money not to mention I was stupid enough to let family convince me to build a camp on it as well. That was a huge mistake looking back. Yes I have first right for leasing when the lease expires every 5 years but I can never take the camp and move it nor get any money back for building it. And I cant stop the logging company from selling it out from under me. Did I mention that was stupid. Go find your piece of heaven enjoy the hell out of it. If you are intersted in that 50 acres in cortland county I can call my buddy who was going to buy it until his wife found out what he was up too.

Does your cuddyback take sdhc cards by chance? Like i noted before some older equipment can only read sd cards so that might be the problem with your cuddyback. It works the opposite way however you can use an sd card in an sdhc reader just fine. SO if your camera is older it may only read sd and not sdhc. I pulled my hair out for awhile with this.

Im not going to speak for others DOC or even try too. I truly have no real judgement on them wether they are a piece of crap or not. Until I actually pick one up and use it I cant make that judgement. However I see no current reason in my near future to even consider making that purchase. Some of my hunting friends are excited over these and from what I can tell its all from them misinterpreting the capabilities of a crossbow. They seem to try to convince me that they shoot farther and faster and are more accurate than a compound. Now theres another term that baffles me a bit as well. Why is it that all of a sudden since the crossbow debate starts and they hit the market in NY there is suddenly a more common name for a compound bow, verticle bow. That seems a little rediculous to me. Why do some feel the need to rename the compound a verticle bow? I dont get that its a friggin compound, has been a compound and if a few years ago you went to any hunting store in NY and said you were looking to buy a new verticle bow they wouldnt know what the hell you were talking about. Why the name change? How come we still call the crossbow a crossbow and not a horizontal bow? This is one of the stupidest things I have heard. Okay that was my shot at changing the subject lol.

All i do is take my digital camera in with me, pop the sd card in it and view the photos. I cant see buying a viewer if I already have a digital camera. Simple and works I can zoom in delete etc I am able to even transfer the photos to internal memory and then download the pictures on my laptop. I dont need extra sd cards to swap out and no need to take the cards home to view the pictures. Theres a key to this though as well as using older computers. Theres a difference between sdhc and sd cards. Older cameras and older computer equipment are only able to read sd cards. Its not a software thing either its hardware. To get around this howeer you can go to Walmart and pick up a sdhc adaptor. The great thing about this cheap little device isd it also can read ,micro sd,mmc and compact flash cards. So you can take your minis sd card out and download pictures from your phone or upload pictures to the mini sd card to view on your phone. Its under 20 dollars. 50 dollars for a viewer or purchasing more sd cards means one less treestand purchase lol.

I know a guy who freezes his scents during the off season, well atleast he used to. He got this brainstorm idea that if he heated it up in the microwave that it would be warm and have more effect. Yeah it had effect alright but on his wifes attitude when the bottle blew up in the microwave. What a dumbass lol.

I have had to take a tarp and use it as a bag and wrap it around the deer. Leave enough room for filling with as much ice as possible. Served the purpose. One night I got one of those sit up out of bed yeehaw IM going to be rich ideas lol. I was thinking of getting a local guy who makes awnings and such for boats etc to sew me up a game bag for the sixe of a deer with a zipper on it so I could fill it with ice for such occasions or transporting. About a week later I heard an advertisement for one. Oh well there goes being rich again lol.

You know Gman I have heard alot of debates on the X-bow and I actually think this is the first time I have heard what you said mentioned. It is a great point. Xbow might be easier but the hunting isnt going to be any different than taking a compound in the field. I bet this throws alot of x bow buyers for a loop when they realize its not a gun and its a total different way to hunt for whitetail.

Too early here yet but in a couple weeks it should get good. Yes dont forget the HIP number.

How did this turn to another WB dropaway debate lol. Just to fuel that however I put a dropaway on my new at the time bow 4 years ago and havent had to do anything to it since the first day of tuning it.
-
Thats pretty neat. Im thinking within the next few years about trying my hands with a longbow or recurve.
-
It was a a joke to call that a fall day lol. Still pushed 80 here today so I put the bow away and put on waders grabbed the flyrod and salmon fished all day. 30 salmon sure beats the heck out of your shoulders and arms lol it was fun but not as fun as bowhunting.
-
Theres no post on opening bow in NZ? All I can report is it was too damn hot sitting in a treestand today. I like being warm but damn 80 degrees. Its time to let go summer and let fall take over. I seen zero and I mean zero deer today. Lots of turkeys however and tree rats. Sure hope it cools of soon and I dont mean the 60's they are calling for.

I bought some a few years ago and didnt like the outcome. They held up but the problem was there was no consitancy with how they shrunk on the arrow, a close inspection showed some fletchins were closer together, some had a more of a twist ot them I even had one that 1 out of 3 vanes was angled more than the other 2. I just cant see how you can get perfect results out of trying to shrink plastic and have it all shrink at the smae rate around the shaft but hey Im picky I guess. I dont even know why I bought them to be honest I fletch my own arrows. Now 3 guys I hunt with in the adirondacks wont use anything else and I know one uses a WB and shoots them constantly in a weekly archery league and never heard him complain once.
-
I thiknk you will be more than pleased with that setup BGF. Have you ever checked your FOC? Just curious how it plays out with the 125 grain head. What shafts are you using?
-
Ahhh we killed this thread lets move on.
-
Refreshing to see someone who understands, I have pointed out the importance of arrow tuning as well as bow tuning. Your FOC is very important part of the equation. Good post.

Arrows, what are some good ones? Anyone buy new ones recently?
wdswtr replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
You are going to love this shaft. I have the exact same setup with g5 and I have taken 6 deer with the exact same arrow and broadhead and its still my go to lucky arrow. I sharpen the broadheads after everytime I use them or any sign of them being dull. However when I bought the shafts a few years ago I was going to put a lighted knock on the hunting ones and the guy at the counter said they do not fit these arrows since they are a smaller diameter than most arrows. With the carbon shaft wrapped in aluminum they take, atleast when I got them a speacial insert and knock custom for that shaft. The 340 at 11.1 grains per inch have some punch and you will notice it just target shooting. -
Hey you stole that from me on another hread lol. A pass through is a pass through and to get that you dont need the grains you need a perfect shot, now throw in some bone into the scenario and a light arrow can deflect easier and lose drastic penetration. You need weight behind that point of the broadhead to drive the arrow through. Im an big advocate of getting as close to 500 grains as you can for a hunting setup. I think everyone has gotten a little lost or confused with the faster the lighter the better. What the speed and the light shafts get you is a flater trajectory and nothing more. The flater the trajectory the accuracy increases and the distance increases. Im not shooting deer at extreme distances with a bow nor am I treating a hunting scenario like a target shoot for braggin rights. Its close quarter 40 yards and under so I could care less about the flatest shooting arrow at the fstest speed I can get it to the point of impact. I care about penetration and driving that arrow as deep as I can in a good shot or not. I have had light carbons deflect and angle into places I couldnt believe all when place perfectly right behind the shoulder and more than once. I went back to shooting as close to 500 as I can get and not sacrificing my FOC. Im at 486 grains. And since doing this I have not had any arrows deflect when shot right behind the shoulder. I know some of you are just shaking your head but kinetic energy is what you need the most of and to get that you need grains. The loss in fps was minimal compared to what I gained. Im still shooting over 300 fps. I got 4 other guys at camp to make the change in the past 2 years after hearing the same stories of deflection and lack of penetration and they all thank me for convincing them to make the switch.
