  1. Chevrolet- Like a Rock! LOL!! In a way you're lucky. I hit two with my last Silverado and did about $6000 in damage between both accidents and they both ran off!!
  2. I thought that Tivoli was in 3F...
  3. I think that the second buck may be the offspring of the first. If you look at their brow tines, they both have tines that curve out and away from the deer. Either that or they were both sired by the same buck.
  4. Two things. First- using a camera that emits a bright, visible flash isn't always the best of ideas particularly on state land. Secondly, leaving any personal property on state land and expecting it to not "disappear" is a bit naive. Not trying to bust your stones, just giving my perspective. People nowadays are freaking scumbags who don't realize that while yes it IS an expensive game camera, someone had to EARN the money to buy it!. Nothing worse than having some low life take what you've worked so hard to acquire.
  5. They are a genetic defect and will adversly affect the rest of the population.
  6. KIll it now and take it out of your gene pool!
  7. What model Bushnell camera is that? It seems to take some nice pics!
  8. Where in Greene County? I live in the Catskill/Leeds area and a 300lb bear (DRESSED!) was taken by my house last year. We have had two so far this year walk through the back yard at different times- at least two that we saw. And we know that they were different ones because one was bigger than the other.
  9. If you support this, then you are part of the problem. We have to stay TOGETHER against these anti gun idiotic politicians. Why does it matter if I want to buy three thousand rounds of ammo at one time? What's the difference if I buy 500 rounds six times or 3000 rounds at once? NONE! I'm kinda taken aback by your phrase "why would a normal god fearing hunter..." So if you buy more than 1000 rounds you're not normal? If I don't believe in god that implies there's something wrong with me? JUst because you don't do it or wouldn't do it doesn't make it wrong.
  10. I really like the Hogue grips. They fit my smaller hands really well and have a tacky feel without being sticky. Now all you need is a 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel upper to take her out deer hunting! I'm almost done with my Mega MA-TEN build- just waiting to get my upper back from having the muzzle brake permanently attached.
  11. I was telling my dad about this topic last night and he asked a good question. Does the AR only apply to gun hunters or does it include bowhunters as well? I'm pretty sure that a bow license is the same all over the state and states one deer of either sex on it. As a non-bowhunter I'm not sure of the answer but if it doesn't include bowhunters (and I bet it doesn't) then it's just another slap in the face. I don't feel NYS DEC has ANY clue on how to properly manage it's deer herd. How can they say no doe permits in this area or 2000 in this area when they NEVER go out and visually check the herd?? I also think that they need to do away with nuisance permits. Hundreds if not thousands of deer are killed every year in the name of protecting crops yet no REGULAR doe permits are given out in those same areas! Makes NO sense to me. I live in Greene County where zero permits were given out last year yet all I see are does and fawns all over the place! I had a great 10 pointer behind the house on camera behind the house last year buy never saw him during the gun season. Obviously there is no one fix for this in NY, but I think alot more research needs to be done before we start added more AR's. Maybe let the hunters who hunt in that WMU vote yea or nea...
  12. I think that these AR's are a load of CRAP and a product of political pandering! Since when does hunting HAVE to be about killing big bucks? My dad just loves to eat venison, NOT ANTLERS!! As a matter of fact we live in 4S and can anyone tell me how many doe permits were given out last year? Those who said 0 can pat yourselves on the back. If you want better hunting by improving buck to doe ratios you have to kill more does!! There are states where you HAVE TO EARN a buck tag by killing a doe first and they produce beautifully racked bucks. Think about it: how many more does do you see than bucks? Alot right? A two year old doe will have twins pretty much every year if the food supply is there. Usually, there is one of each sex. That doe fawn can be bred in the late rut and have her first fawn the following spring. If there are alot of does around, bucks don't have to travel far to breed. However, if you want them running around like you see in the hunting videos, you need fewer does. Plain and simple. I know of several people who have said that if they have AR's in their areas they will stop hunting altogether! Is that what we want? The arrogance of most bowhunters and all trophy hunters in this state really pisses me off! All you hear is "our deer" this and "my deer" that. Give me a break. If they really must do these AR's then it should only be on PUBLIC LAND! The area I hunt is all private land and if we want to shoot a forkhorn for some meat and it's done legally and ethically there should be NO problems with it by anyone.
  13. You gotta remember that this was in Texas and the people there don't take any CRAP! If this happened in NY, things may have been different. As an aside, the guy should feel remorse but only because killing a person shouldn't feel "good." I wouldn't want to have to do it, but in the same breath I'd do it in a second to protect my family and deal with the consequences later.
  14. Ok, so I forgot. I'm sorry but as promised here are two pics of the BIG fisher my dad got last year. He says it's just a fully grown adult but I don't know...
  15. My dad has caught a bunch of these trappingover the past few years. He caught three last season and one was what I thought to be a giant but he said it's a full size adult. I'll post a pic later when I get home from work.
  16. I have this same exact camera and have had pretty good luck with it. In fact, here are some pics I got with it:http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/6423-hes-baaaack/
  17. Ok, I'm going to play devil's advocate here. ( Flame suit on ) I don't understand why people get so upset over the natural predation of deer by coyotes. It's nature's way. Predators and prey animals. Imagine how overrun with deer we would be without the coyotes killing their share. People see deer as " THEIR deer", and not as the natural resource that they are. It's kinda hypocritical of us as hunters who KILL DEER to get mad at other animals for killing deer- and the predators HAVE to to survive! I know they kill fawns, but to me, it's just the natural order of things.
  18. If I remember when I get home, I'll take and post a pic of a recovered Winchester Supreme Partition Gold from a deer I shot a couple of years ago. The deer was slightly angling towards me and it traveled the length of it's body and was just under the hide on the opposite rear quarter! Awesome performance. Last year a shot one, and there were bits of lung and heart on the ground using the same slugs.

I think you nailed it. I live in Greene County (WMU 4S) and Sunday at 3:00 in the afternoon the big ten pointer that I posted pics of back in October crossed the road fifty yards from our house with his nose right up a doe's butt! Middle of the day, 60 degrees out and he was out dogging her like there was no tomorrow. Find the does, you'll find the bucks!
  20. You have to pay $200 to renew your permit????? I live in Greene County and I've had my permit for ten years and haven't had to renew. Friggin' NYC politicians!!!
  21. Another choice is a 12 gauge slug gun. I have an older Savage Model 210 with a Simmons Aetec 4-12 scope that I use alot because my main hunting areas offer close shots in brushy conditions. HOWEVER, I did buy a Rock River Arms LAR-8 in .308 this spring that has a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 scope on it that if I hunt the right areas will totally be going with me!
  22. I don't think there's any way that cat killed that deer. Maybe the camera owner found the deer dead and set the camera up to see what showed up to feed. If you look at the date/time of the sequence of pictures, the first picture is actually the second picture. The black and white pic was the following moring. All the leaves look undisturbed as well. All I know is that if that cat WAS able to kill that deer (which I doubt) I'm gonna be alot more cautious in the deer woods!
  23. I live in 4s and they gave out ZERO DMP's this year! I have a trail cam out and have pics of five does and dawns at one time! But there's no deer they say. I did get one for 4y though. I always apply to 3f and 4y because I have two different places to hunt in those areas. Unfortunately, game management has become political in this state and that's not a good thing.
