  1. I've been doing a lot of bird watching this morning from a far. One Jake came in but way out of bow range. Got plenty of room in my new blind so I'm sticking it out. Sent with Tapatalk on my Samsung Galaxy 4
  2. Not too bad here in Columbia County. We are high up on a hill and the ponds are about 500 yards below my setup. Sent with Tapatalk on my Samsung Galaxy 4
  3. So i finally got up to the cabin. Set up my new hub blind -Ameristep Mountaineer. Pouring rain out. Sitting inside the house looking at my sd card I pulled. Found a new friend.. Can't wait until tomorrow!
  4. NICE!! I am so antsy . . . can't wait to head up this weekend for my chance at the big one I've seen strutting around.
  5. Yeah I realized that after I posted it. Lol!
  6. So I decided to string fishing line between the hooks and put some red electrical tape at about 12" apart. We'll see if this works. I will also set up my trail cam after bringing it back from the cabin next weekend. Perhaps I'll get something on video and share with you all hmmmm.......
  7. Thanks Pygmy! He's about 10.5lbs. I guess you're right. At worst he probably may be hurt by the birds talons. Just freaked me out.
  8. Joe, I know that it is nature at it's best, but I have a small dog that I'm afraid to let out in the backyard now because of this hawk.
  9. I'm standing in my kitchen stirring the sauce for pasta, or as some of you call it "gravy", while watching doves feeding on the ground below my bird feeder right outside my back door. I look away and then I hear a loud thump and see feathers flying everywhere. I turn to look to see what happened and I see a huge, I mean HUGE hawk sitting on top of a squirming dove not even ten yards away from my back door. I open the back door, it looks at me and this thing takes off with the dove in tow. I can kill a deer and turkey and gut them without wincing but this totally freaked me out. Never expected this to happen in my yard on Long Island. So my question is how do you keep these predatory birds away from my yard and feeders? And no I will not kill them as they are federally protected birds. I was thinking of stringing some red blinking lights between the two shepherds hooks holding the feeders. We do that upstate at the house where we have a chicken coop and it seems to keep them at bay.
  10. Congrats Growie! Welcome back!
  11. My daughter and wife saw a teal colored one. Sent with Tapatalk on my Samsung Galaxy 4
  12. Good question. I've killed birds on opening day, middle of the month and never at the end though I've seen them and heard them. This year my first opportunity to go this year will be 5/16-18. I killed my first ever on 5/17/2008 at 11:45am so i'm siked to go this year. Hoping to tag out this time. As far as tactics go I have not done anything different from early on or late season. I plan on using my motorized decoy again this year. Hoping it will bring the big Toms in to range.
  13. Problems with Tapatalk. Hows this
  14. Since my sister in law passed I decided to set up a hummingbird feeder and a wild bird feeder in my yard. We have a Red and black hummingbird stop at the feeder. This morning these two decided to land on the feeder. I think they are finches but I'm not sure. I also saw a teal colored one.
  15. That's a purdy bird! I can't wait to get out there. Have to wait until 5/16-18 due to family obligations . . . . bleh!
  16. Nice! Congrats! Great feeling isn't it?
