Did anyone go out today ? It rained most of the night and did the wet snow thing this am . I had to do some digging and draining in the back yard 1st thing this am . My sister in law said the creek that had been ankle deep was probably knee high with water this morning . If it had been like that opening day of gun season , I could have gotten the doe out of the gulley by boat !

I was thinking of taking an old golf bag and one of those 2 wheel carts and doing a camo job on them . Then i could take the ML , Shotgun , Pistol and Bow along . Kinda like picking which club to use .......... : ... ;D ... ;D ... ;D

Yousa ! -
I know you can't carry a pistol with you during bow season but i'd bet it would be legal to carry a gun and bow during gun season as long as you had the licenses .

I checked out the Time Warner Finger Lakes guide and couldn't find it listed on Discovery . I did find it listed on National Geographics channel ( 73 ) at 10 pm . It has Wild Justice ..... Outgunned ...assault on nocturnal poachers -
Jetboil Cooking Appliance

Nice unit but you won't find me cooking dinner in the treestand or groundblind . I'll go the cheap way and carry the Thermos , if necessary . But ..... the Stanley Thermos doesn't keep things hot for long . -
I bought it strictly for processing deer . I keep those knives separate from all the kitchen knives . Thanks for the help ......

Wild Justice on National Geographic - Nat Geo - New Show

Cabin Fever --- No doubt the term --hunter came from Walt Disney . In the original story about Bambi , Walt Disney substituted "hunter" for the word "poacher" . The folks that do these shows most often have no clue about hunting . Poor research . -
Just bought a Wusthof Boning knife with leather sheath on EBAY for $17.50 plus $9.99 shipping . I had the winning bid . Saw some with some real high prices so I think I got a deal .

I had some Mesquite Marinade mix that I added to some ground venison . Mixed it in as best i could and let it set for a day . Used the Jerky Shooter to make strips to place in the trays . I put it in the De-hydrator overnight and that was too long . It came out in strips that you would not think had been ground at one time . Been pigging out on it for a couple days . Made some more but left it in the de-hydrator for less than 5 hours . That is more pliable and quite tasty . I buy the marinade mixes because I am too lazy to make my own .

It would be nice to see the follow up story on this ! -
That sharpening system runs $60 plus shipping . My oldest son shoots single bevel blades on his home-made footed arrows and those babies are razor sharp . He also does his knives on the system . A double wheel grinding unit with a speed of 3450 rpms is necessary for it and I have one . Looks like this might be a Christmas present !

Thanks for the suggestions . The Henkel knives look pretty good . My son has the Grizzley Stik Razor Sharp System for his knives and broadheads . I might be getting one for Christmas . http://www.alaskabowhunting.com/GrizzlyStik-Razor-Sharp-System-P168C17.aspx

Quit saying crossbows are like guns . When it gets close to having crossbows legal during regular season , I will spend some of my Social securuty money on one of the PSE Tac-15 crossbows with a speed of 408 fps . It can be mounted to the lower receiver of my AR-15 . I'll wait because something faster with more range of 100 yards might come out before they are legal in regular season .

I passed on a 5 point and never got a shot at another deer other than 4 doe fawns that I watched go by the stand . No regrets .... -
I saw a total of 11 deer today . 8 of them when it had gotten dark . This morning I heard a barage of 9 shots and that was it for the whole day . Only saw a couple cars pulled off to the side of the road and assumed it was hunters .

I don't hunt the State land . A lot of weekend warriors hunt there . I have had someone use a couple of my stands on private property and I could tell by the candy wrappers , pop cans and butts . It hasn't happened that much though . -
Made the trip to Geneseo again . Sat in the same blind . Saw a couple fox playing in one of the fields . At 8 am , I saw a doe and two fawns poking across the neighbor's field about 200 yards from mo spot . At 10:30 I got out of the blind bot my nippers and headed down to the laneway . I cleared a spot that put me 110 yards closer to where I had seen the deer for the last two outings . Moved the DogHouse blind to the cleared spot . Needed a break and drove to the DEC office in Avon to check on something and then went to get something to eat . Checked out the Avon Gun Shop and headed back to Geneseo . Sat in the relocated blind until just after 5 pm . Got my gear together and started to leave . It had gotten fairly dark . When I was 1/2 way to my car I looked down the field and could see movement . I looked through the binos and could see 8 deer slowly crossing the field . I wasn't about to shoot as it had gotten too dark and wasn't legal . Those buggers are smart and know when it's safe to come out !

I was hunting in Geneseo today and drove over to the Region 8 DEC office in AVON and asked one of the DEC officers the question . He said if he approached someone and smelled alcohol or saw evidence of drinking he might just look a little further to see if there were any violations . But he said that it is not illegal as long as the hunter isn't intoxicated . He further stated that taking a swig of alcohol does not warm someone up and that it has the reverse effect . And don't try to convince mr that Sits wasn't expecting some controversy on the topic !
