I was sitting here thinking about what I have for tags and all of a sudden it dawned on me that I hadn't called in yesterday's tag . Went on the Web Site and Got 'r Done ..... Getting forgetful ! : I know we have plenty of time to do it now but often I procrastinate !

I saw an ad for the Deer Air Skinner and GOOGLED it . Saw the video and it looked pretty neat . You have some different size tubes that are sharpened and get shoved into the hide by the hooves and in the deer's neck . You put air into them witha an air compressor and it separates the hide from the meat . It doesn't work so great . I went on line and checked the video and saw that the deer that they did the video on , wasn't field dressed so the when you hooked up the compressor , the air couldn't escape through a cavity opening . Pretty sneaky !!!

I got to Geneseo by 5:15 this morning . A bit early . I set up my chair blind where I thought my sister in law suggested and didn't care for the spot so I moved it to the other side of the upper pasture lot . I had my ML and Contender 7-30 waters with me . The 1st shot I heard was at 6:15 . Sun rise was at 7:12 . Saw 3 doe hauling butt across the lower pasture lot at 7:20 . Heard shooting all around in the distance . Several 5 round barages . I wasn't comfortable being constrained in the chair blind , walked up to my car , put away the ML & pistol and got out the 12 guage . I walked over by the gulley and saw a doe at the bottom of the gulley . I checked several spots to try to get a clear shot and cranked off a round . She moved about 5' and dropped like a rock . The doe was about 60-70 yards below me but only about 20 yards horizontal distance . Saw another doe down there and shot again . I didn't have the buttstock in my shoulder ane wasn't sure if I hit the 2nd doe . She had run across the creek and booked . I walked out around and came into the gulley from the other side . It was all thorns and brambles and was thick with that crap . No sign of the other doe and no blood anywhere , I got tore up pretty good but I didn't want to leave a wounded deer laying around . After checking and rechecking , I was convinced that I hadn't hit the 2nd doe . I crossed the creek and got to the deer . She was a pretty good sized doe . My sister in law checked around and didn't see the doe or any blood . I field dressed the deed after taking a few pics . Took some video but I can't get into PhotoBucket . Took my pack , gun , etc up the bank and got the sled and some parachute cord . Never would have gotten the deer through the thorns & briars so we hauled it up the hill a little bit at a time . It took us almost an hour to get it up the steep bank and I was sucking wind when we finally got it to the top . She had a 40 1/4" girth . My sister in law asked where the deer was when I shot . I told her it was 5' from where it layed . She said , "why the hell did you shoot it when it was in the gulley" ? I told her that it was the only opportuniy I had so far ........... After I got it in the trailer I had my sister in law go to her stand and I did a long walk to see if I could I could push anything her way and check for blood . Nothing . I had a partial knee replacement about 3 years ago it it bothered me a bit . Must have been the gully climbing along with old age . Felt whipped when I got home so i'll butcher the deer tomorrow . It should be okay , it's 41 degrees right now .

I didn't bring her . I shot it on her property in Geneseo where she owns 67 acres .

Mine was a 4 . Never got a shot but did see some activity off and on ...........Got to hunt with my sons and was there to drag a deer for one of them .
-
I have used them during the late summer months for a farming family in the Pittsford / Mendon area . You either shoot the does on the permits or forget about hunting the property during regular season . If you don't do it , someone else will . Does only !

Shot a doe this morning around 9 am . Had a hell of a time getting it out of the gulley . Lucky my sister in law was there to help . It was a bad place to shoot a deer ....steep gulley bank on one side and thick brush with thorns and prickers on the other . Pictures and BS story later ..........

Good luck to you also Bleitten04 ............

The outside temp is 44 degrees here in Ontario . I'll be heading for Geneseo in a few minutes to hunt in the morning . Gonna go to South Bristol tomorrow to hunt with 2 of my sons .

It is forecasted to be in the low 30's at 6am and the "real feel" temp is forecasted to be in the low 20's ............ cccccccccccccold !

The 1st sabots I bought when I got my NEF Huntsman were the Powerbelts . Heard a lot of negatives on the Powerbelts and bought the TC sabots with the 240 gr Hornaday XTP's . They hit the same as the more expensive Powerbelts . I have only shot at 3 deer with the ML and took all three with one shot each . Lucky !!!

I put my archery gear away yesterday am . Got the gun hunting gear ready . Talked to my sister in law about where we would sit tomorrow am . I am tempted to sit in her upper pasture lot ( horses will be in the barn ) . The deer often come out of the small gulley , cross the pasture and go into some thick stuff on the neighbor's property . I'll take the ML instead of the shotgun .
-
I probably would ............ Once the hide is off it will taste the same as the other deer . However , if I had already taken a couple deer , I just might pass on the albino after taking pictures .

Yeah , for a dollar it would be a good deal and they would probably fit tighter than the fingers . -

Barrel protector for ML
fasteddie replied to fasteddie's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I am recycling a surgical glove so it's costing nothing extra . I have shot 3 deer with the ML and left the cover on when I shot . It didn't affect the shots al all . -
I had once considered taking a CASE of slugs hunting . With all the shooting that was going on I probably could have sold the cheap rifled Foster slugs for $20 a box . Sometimes it sounded like a war zone ! I'd bet a lot of the shooters ran out of slugs . Get your slugs here $20 a box bargain deal $45 for two boxes ............... :

I have a Blue ridge 3D deer target . I would sometimes pull the plug out when removing an arrow and have to hold the target with my knee .The arrow puller really helps get a grip on the arrow . And ....... the Armor-all lets it pull out easier .
