Why didn't you take a doe ? No tag ?
-
For "public highway" definition , try page 60

Still no tags filled but what a weird season
fasteddie replied to Caveman's topic in General Hunting
Is there a season on cows or are they considered varmints ? : -
I often get depressed spending all that time outside trying to get a deer and think of the time I wasted . But you know , it wasn't wasted time . I was out and about enjoying nature and if I hadn't been out I would have been sitting on my butt at the computer ! ???

That's a Great story !!!
-
I thought about that but the way the weather has been it didn't hurt me to burn up an 8H Tag . If I hunt Wayne County , i'll wait until ML season .

All it says in the Regs Booklet is , "It is illegal to shoot across a highway " .

Robinson446 --- A big congrats to you for getting your deer . You have been more successful than some of us older hunter !

We had used a Fake tree for years that I bought at JB Hunter years ago . About 5 years ago , I had a woman contact me about getting rid of sme woodchucks that had burrowed onder trees on their Christmas Tree Farm . They were worried that when folks went out to cut their trees that the ground might give way and someone would get hurt . I shot 5 varmints for them and didn't see any more after going back a few times . She asked me how much I charged for getting rid of the chucks and I said Nothing that I didn't charge for doing that . She told me to come back when I was ready to get a christmas tree and they would give me one . My wife won't let me put the JB Hunter tree up any more . The real trees run $6 per foot . Some of the trees at the box stores are cut in September and if you stomp the base on the ground , the needles will fall out because they don't keep them watered . So , buyer beware !

My son's blind was staked with regular tent stakes and tied to a couple trees so his didn't blow away .

20ftupatree ---- What you are doing to Legal . I don't see a problem with that . I have done that with woodchucks in farmers fields . You can shoot from very close to a road but not across the road .

Don't forget to use the Coupons out of the Entertainment Book .........

Seems odd that you can pick up sheds but not the racks of dead deer found at the end of the season .

Rochester Area Gunsmith (need scope rings/mount/bore sight)
fasteddie replied to phade's topic in General Hunting
I did what Gthphtm mentioned above .I used one of those Black & Decker bench vices . I have several NEF single shots . I mounted the scopes will Millet Rings , attached the scope , placed the rifle in the vice and adjusted everything so that my neighbor's yard ligh that is approximately 75 yards away was centered when I looked through the barrel . I then adjusted the scope to get the same picture . A trip to the range with a few shots and I am done . I like the Millet rings because you can loosen one side and tighten the other to get a vertical adjustment . Try calling The Custom Gun Shop in Walworth 315-986-1717 ...... Dave Dentino is the gunsmith / store owner . You might even catch him in a good mood . -
Folding Chairs for Ground Blinds

I used to sit on a bucket with a pad onit . My back would be killing me after a while . I need something with a back support . -
The deer have evolved and are much smarter than they were years ago . Right now , I am at my son's house in Honeoye Falls . It was common to see 15 - 18 deer the week before bow season . The same with the field 1/4 mile west of here . I had counted 30 deer in that field a couple times . Now you don't see them at all . They are out there someplace !

My mom was the authority in our house and she could swing a mean arm ( if necessary ) . If dad had to discipline , you would get the belt . You didn't want to get in trouble , because your parents would handle the matter . You respected authority and other's property . Now folks rob , steal , etc and they are right back out doing it again . A lot of that is due to the candy-ass judges who don't dole out any punishment !

I had cleared the driveway with the snowblower and was sitting on my butt relaxing . A friend of mine who doesn't hunt and won't let anyone hunt his property called me up . He had been out jogging for a training run and came across a bedded doe that could hardly get up . He said her leg was shattered and didn't want the yotes to start feeding on her and would I come over to put the deer down . I said i'd be there in 1/2 hour . When I got there , I got out my shotgun and put a couple shells in it and we headed for the pines . The doe was still laying down but got up and tried to hobble away . One shot in the lungs and she was done . My friend went back and got his tractor with a bucket and hauled it to the barn after I field dressed the doe . It dawned on me afterward that the heart had turned to pulp with the blast . When I got her home , I hung her in the garage and skinned it . The right leg was shattered but the left leg looked nasty and so did the left rear leg . I think the deer had been hit by a vehicle . There wasn't any bruising but it didn't look good .I had to throw away quite a bit but the backstraps looked fine and I got several packages of burger . She's in the freezer . It wasn't really hunting but it's meat in the freezer ! My friend isn't a venison eater but said he'd try some burger . Maybe i'll make him some jerky as he cross country skis and he just might like that .

Folding Chairs for Ground Blinds
fasteddie replied to wztirem's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I have one of the chair blinds and I wouldn't recommend it . You are pretty cramped for space and your shooting availability is pretty constrained . Once you are inside , it is kind of difficult to left and turn . I do not find it comfortable at all . I wonder how the 2 man chair blind would be for ONE person to use ? -
Can you imagine shooting one of thes doe and then having to drag it out ?
-
Well , we aren't seeing that around here .
