Olin calls workers' bluff: Ammo plant to Mississippi
fasteddie replied to Fantail's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
It's all too often that Unions think they have a company by the Nads , vote down contracts and lose jobs . I spent 35 years working for a manufacturing company . I was in the union for almost 6 years and all the shop chairmen seemed to do was be busy taking care of the slackers . I had quit the union and got into management . There are hardly any manufacturing jobs in the company anymore . The company downsized and outsourced jobs . Over 12 years ago , guys that were driving Fork Lifts were making over $18 an hour . You couldn't move employees across lines so they sat on their butts doing nothing and had to make up production losses with OT . Companies cannot compete running a business that way . -
Has anyone else seen this ? Effective 11/17/10, the time frame to legally report deer, bear and turkey harvests has been extended from 48 hours to seven (7) days. See below for details. Upcoming Change to Game Harvest Reporting. Effective November 17, there will be a new regulation extending the game harvest reporting deadline from 48 hours to 7 days. Successful hunters of deer, bear, and turkey are required to report their harvest through DEC's online reporting system (http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8316.html) (click on the image to get started!) or by calling 1-866-GAME-RPT (1-866-426-3778). The purpose of this reporting change is to increase flexibility for hunters to comply with the reporting requirement, particularly for hunters who hunt in remote areas that lack cell phone coverage or internet access or both. Game harvest reporting is essential for proper management of deer, bear and turkeys. When hunters report their harvest, they perform a crucial step in the management process by providing data on when and where an animal was taken and estimates in the number of animals harvested each year throughout the State.

So far in eight outings I have seen 10 bucks and 38 doe while on stand . I have seen a lot more doe driving to hunting spots and on the way home but the doe to buck ratio has been almost 4 doe per 1 buck while in a stand . Now all I need to do is shoot one . :
-
I consider myself a Deer hunter . Although I would love to take a buck with a big rack , i'll take a doe whenever afforded the opportunity ( except for doe fawns ) . I know a couple guys that won't shoot doe but that's their choice . Fill the freezer . Now all I have to do is take a couple .

Let's face it , we really buy a lot of stuff we don't need or can get along without . We're "stimulating the economy" . That's why I sometimes envy the Traditional guys ........they don't need all the bells and whistles .

I bought some new Camo made by Huntech . It works pretty darned well . Here's a video ............ New Camouflage Hunting Clothes Commercial

This is a great site . We have pretty much agreed to disagree and talk things out . We're not a bunch of Lemmings so we don't have to follow one another's thoughts . So I say to DPSURF with saddened heart , Buh Bye ! http://www.downsouthhuntingforums.com/images/smiles/tears27.gif[/img]

Besides , if you are walking down the street and Nature calls , you don't need to worry about being without Toilet Paper ! :

Jimbo ---- They taught us in boot camp that " only girls and Swabbies wear pants " . However , if you are looking for some warm trousers , check around your area for an Military Surplus Store and see if they have any WOOL trousers . My oldest son bought a couple pair of wool trousers at Iron Mike's Surplus in Canandaigua . Also check Sportsman's Guide . I guess the neat thing about wool is ..... if it's wet , it's still warm .

Those grey fox make an eerie sound , like a scream . Be careful , they can climb trees . You might find one in your stand . I was getting bummed as I havn't taken a shot yet and then thought about the fact that in 2008 , the buck I shot was on the marine Corps Birthday ( Nov 10 ) . Hang in there guys !

Git 'r done Burt !!!

I hope to haed back down there Monday and use a different stand that is closer to their travel path . Problem with that stand is that it is a bit in the open .
-
I have one , possibly two but have never used a scrape dripper . I have seen them on public land .
-
I probably won't get back there until Monday . Got too much going on the next few days .
-
will you take a deer of 2.5 years old or younger?
fasteddie replied to skyzmine's topic in General Hunting
I havn't taken a shot yet this season but have had the opportunity to shoot 3 different fawn doe and just can't bring myself about to do it .... -
Uhhhhhhhhhhh , could I have my arrow back ? j/k People have to be pretty stupid to be shooting into someone's lawn . What if there had been a ricochet !

I couldn't find my video so here is another one that I found ...............

Yes and No ....... I have seen a few articles on the PSE Tac-15 . It's a powerfull and has amazing accuracy out to and beyond 100 yards . Here I am at 69 years old shooting a 60 & 70 pound bow . Poor me , I should be able to use something much easier . I could have reached out and touched some of those deer with the Tac-15 .

Never got a shot but it was a treat seeing so many !

Depends on how much money you want to spend . I prefer the single shots ( New England Firearms ) . My 25-06 cost me less than $200 but the ammo is expensive so I reload for it . You can't go wrong with a 270 cal !

Has anyone ever driven through Cheshire , NY after Halloween ? That small village / hamlet gets TP'd from one end to the other every year . It's an annual event and the people in the hamlet supply the toilet paper . It takes them at least 3 weeks to clean up the mess !

Went to South Bristol this am and met my youngest son there . I walked him down to the stand that I normally use because he didn't know where the other stand was and then i headed forthe other stand . It was 29 degrees at 6:30 am . Just past 7:30 a 5 point came in behind me at about 5 yards . I was debating whether or not to take a shot and my hand was so cold I couldn't close the jaws on my release . Later on I saw a spike as well as 8 does between 7:45 and 10:00 . Somewhere around 8:30 I heard a noise and figured my son had taken a shot . Right after that 2 doe hauled butt through the brush behind me . Almost 1/2 hour later two more doe came down but there was too much brush to get a shot at all . At 11:30 I met with my son . He had shot a button buck from my stand and it wasn't hard to track . It went about 10 feet and dropped . His 810 grain arrows have some serious knock down power . I suggested that he go up to his truck and drive to the bottom and I would drag his deer downhill and meet him . That worked out pretty good . He took me up to where I was parked . Had some coffee and he headed for home to process his deer . He said that if I got in a bind to call and he would come back . Got in a stand on the opposite side of the gulley by 1:30 and stayed until 5:15 . I saw a 4 point , 8 doe and 3 not sures . I had a doe fawn come up the trail at about 15 yards . She looked pretty small ! Give her another year . It was a beautiful afternoon ! Someone was hunting the adjacent property and 4 doe came crashing through the small gulley south of me . Although I didn't get a shot , it was a great day ! Saw a bunch of deer feeding in the fields on the way home . I left South Bristol around 5:45 . I didn't want to hit one before dark and have to drive back down there in the am . There are some gulleys and nasty thickets . It's bad enough tracking during the daytime let alone at night .
