Went back to South Bristol this am (Monday) . Saw 5 doe on Walworth-Palmyra Road and a 6 point standing in the road on Route 28 1/2 mile north of Rt 96 . Had to almost stop for the buck to get out of the road . Spooked a few deer while walking down the trail to the stand . Saw 2 doe and 2 fawns between 6:55 and 7:15 . One of the fawns was munching acorns about 5 yards from my stand . Went for a slow walk at 10 am and saw nothing . Sat in the tent blind for an hour and then went to my vehicle to get some coffe and a couple of granoloa bars . Walked down and sat in a stand on the south side of the gulley antil 4 pm . Saw some scrapes but no rubs . Saw a fox and e turkeys .

Same here . More scrapes than rubs ....

Doc --your post reminded me of a BS session we had at work years ago . One of the guys that worked for me was talking about the Deer Alerts that get mounted on bumpers and how well they worked because he drove from Savanah to Webster avery day and had never hit any deer . I told the guys that you had to be careful when mounting the Deer Alerts because if you put them on backwards , they would attract deer instead . A couple guys looked at me thinking , I know he's BS'ing us but ....... it sounds possible ! : ... ... ...

Went to South Bristol this morning and hunted with my oldest son . Debated on whether to use the treestand or Doghouse Blind . Used the ladderstand . There were 3 doe eating near the tent blind . One of them was right next to it . The blind is about 40 yards from the treestand . Anyway , I saw 5 doe , 2 doe fawns , 2 racoons and had a hawk landed on a branch 20' from me . One of the doe fawns was eating acorns 5 yards from where I was sitting . We went up to our vehicles around 11 am . My son had seen several doe and two 8 pointers and said the bucks were beyond his range with his recurve . He was going to haed to his property in Italy Valley to hunt with my youngest son for a couple days . I had planned to hunt the less steep side of the property this afternoon but had an intestinal problem and came home . My stomach was way off and I didn't want an accidental discharge !

Was in a stand in Geneseo opening day at 6:20 am . Didn't see even one deer . Did see a red fox that came within 20 yards of my stand . Got down to do some walking . Saw 6 or 7 turkeys way down the lane-way . Left around 12:30 .

A couple of real nice deer !

Dave --- I believe you are only entitled to 2 (two) bucks per season in NY . You get a Buck tag for gun season and an Either / Or for Bow/Mz . If you shoot a buck during archery season , you can't during ML season .

I drove to Geneseo this morning and was in a treestand by 6:20 . Saw a fox at 7:37 . I could hear the dogs barking at the kennels over around Avon road . I started to get a stiff neck and my right shoulder had tightened up . Thought I would shoot one of my target tips . Aimed at a leaf about 18 yards away . It was all I could do to pull the bow back but I put a hurtin' on that leaf ! : Walked down the lane-way (hedgerow on each side ) to see if anything might be bedded down . Saw 6 or 7 turkeys way down at the other end . They disappeared quick . Checked out the pond field . It was super wet . Went back to the stand and left at noon . The wind had been blowing in my face all morning and it was a bit nippy . Plans for tomorrow are to hunt South Bristol in the am with my oldest son .............

You should have received a Bow/Ml Either -Or Tag plus a Bow/Ml Anterless Tag ( 2 tags ). I think I would use the Bow/Ml Anterless Tag on the 1st doe and save the DMP for the 2nd . That way if you don't get 2 doe during archery , you still have a shot at filling it during gun season . Check your Tags over good !

Congrats on the doe and also for passing up on the little guy . I didn't see one darned deer today !

I recall being in the Geneseo WalMart the day before gun season one year . A guy was at the counter buying 20 ga & 12 ga slugs . A buddy was loaning him a shotgun for opening day . The guy didn't know what ga it was and hadn't shot it . I asked why he hadn't sighted it in . He said his buddy had done that already . It would have been funny if it turned out to be a 16 gauge ! : ... ;D

The wind forecast doesn't look much better Sunday . It lets up a bit Monday . I may be wasting my time tomorrow but what better way to waste time than sitting in a treestand !

Hey Doc -- I bet you could sell those on EBAY .

I changed my plans about where to hunt due to the weather . Although it is forecasted to stop raining in South Bristol around 10 pm , the ground will still be wet . I would have to walk about 500 yards down some hilly terrain and I know how slippery it was when we put the treestands up soooooo , I think I will be hunting in the Geneseo area where it is much flatter . If Geneseo doesn't look so great , I may leave around noon , come home and go to Saturday evening mass and hunt South Bristol Sunday .... I have everything pretty much ready except for hooking up the trailer and loading the ATV .

There are plenty of misspelled words on forums / sites but we know what the person is saying ( for the most part anyway ) . I don't think we need an English Teacher to come on here and correct the Grammar ! : ..... ???

I shouldn't be grunting this weekend . I have been pretty regular .......

I have 3 spots that are anywhere between 100 and 120 miles round trip so it's a daily round trip drive . Therefore , If I hunt Saturday , I will skip Sunday and alternate days . Two places that are close by are screwed up this year . One is overgrown with super high weeds / thorns and the other is overgrown with hunters . Soooooo , I gotta drive .
